TOTALASS, EGREGIOUSLYRUDEBEDSIDEMANNER. when my mother was admitted at suburban«hospital» for lower gi bleed, my cousin and i(both physicians) were expecting her to be seen by gi the next morning. in the ed, my mother’s blood had been drawn around 11pm but just sat at bedside for more than 2 hours(bad enough in and of itself) — even though i kept asking multiple ppl for it to be sent since she was there for lower gi bleed and could we at least know her hemoglobin(even worse that there was no action even though i was asking). ed nurse the following morning, without knowing about this and other snafoos the previous night, condescendingly told me that quality of care was just as good as anywhere else. really?! we thought it strange that i was told that she wouldn’t be seen until later the next day, then scoped the day after that. with my cousin’s concurrence, i tried to contact my cousin advised trying to page/contact gi directly for explanation and called patient services multiple times. when i finally met bakshi around 6p that day, he REFUSEDTOREAD8PAGESOFNOTESABOUTMYMOTHER’S PASTGIHISTORY, which i had expended significant time/energy to obtain. my cousin was asking why my mother couldn’t just have outpatient colonoscopy since she was stable and not bleeding that much. just told me that i needed to decide whether to have her scoped the next day or elsewhere, either way fine with him since she wasn’t bleeding. i had wanted to discuss what he thought might be happening, what he would do if he found xyz, etc — i.e., an actual discussion, which was denied after i had waited/begged all day long to just speak with him. discussion with him was so upsetting that, on top of other inexplicable errors/miscommunications in suburban ed/floor, i didn’t feel comfortable entrusting my mother to these people, especially if, god forbid, there were anything serious. i ended up having long conversation that evening with my mom’s internist’s partner(who, unlike bakshi and his similarly uncaring partner) actually cared about my mother(who wasn’t even«his» patient) and was willing to walk through these questions with me — and also supported transfer to another hospital because of poor-quality care at suburban. yes, i wanted my mother to be scoped, but not by him, and to transfer to hopkins(since the hospitals are supposedly affiliated). since he was such an ass, i was afraid that his partner(apparently the only other alternative at suburban on rinky-dink 2-man gi service) would be no different. nurse administrator had no response but refused to expedite anything. in hospital, my mother was hospitalized for an extra night(during our limited time together) only because suburban has only 2 gi docs, both of whom aim only to get out of hospital asap and view patients not as people, but as revenue-generating procedure codes. suburban could hire more gi docs(who actually care about patients), but that might hinder their ability to unnecessarily prolong admissions and hurt their bottom line. Terrible doctor. Charge me $ 12.000 for a colonoscopy and endoscopy and after that he told me that I have to take Miralx ??? Before even cheking me he was already sending me to get these tests in his own surgical center. Three months after the procedure they sent me an invoice saying that I haven’t paid a $ 20 bill. They wanted me to fax them the confirmation of the payment, but when I really became upset and told them that I planned on driving there to show them the confirmation they called me and said that they misplaced the payment. They didn’t even say sorry.

Dr. Bakshi and his partners and PA are terrific! They are«tops» —not only do they«know their stuff» Dr. Bakshi and his associates are very caring and the follow-up is almost immediate… the doctor(s) himself and the PA are great too, as well as Admin Staff. Unlike many MDs these days, they do follow-up visits when/if you’re in the hospital I highly recommend Dr. Bakshi and his associates! They are number 1 in my book.
