I am an adult who has been taking classes at B2R in Bethesda for several years. I tried several disciplines and mainly voice lessons for about a year. The teachers are great, the people are very friendly, the prices are reasonable, the times are flexible and it’s very close to my house. My son also took DJ classes there(Beat Refinery) some years ago and was also quite pleased. Once I was sad because a voice teacher that I loved left … but the new one I got was also amazing, in a totally different way, and I felt truly blessed I had been with both.

Here right now for my nephew’s birthday party. The staff was completely unable to manage the group of 6 year olds. They tried to educate the kids on what a guitar, amp, drumset, and keyboard were but if be surprised if anything stuck. It devolved into children beating on instruments and not learning anything.

I didn’t learn enough after spending $ 300+ dollars to give this place more than 2 stars. My class was unstructured, disorganized and the instructor rambled for 2+ hours on the history of music(interesting, but not what I’m paying for.) I wanted to learn how to spin on a Traktor controller, but the equipment here is suited for DJs who spin vinyl/electric vinyl(ummm… what beginner would do this or have access to this?) My instructor ended our session an hour early both days, and also played on his phone a lot while we were«practicing.» He clearly didn’t want to be there and didn’t give me any information that I could use later(other than learning the«dropping on the one» beatboxing rule.) Not everyone who knows how to use a computer should be an instructor. Not worth the money… I feel like I was scammed.

Ok, we finished our session and we hit two glitches with the place. Our instructor was caught out of town one time and they had to reschedule and then for the last class, they had to reschedule because of his finals that he didn’t know about. They called us at 5pm the night before. He knew his finals schedule well before this and it was not professional to do that. He scolded my son for playing a song too fast and come to find out has not taught the kids how to tell time in music. He didn’t know about ¾ time vs 4⁄4 time. The company is probably great but the instructor didn’t impress us as the session went on.
