Let me update here first leaving the original report as is. There was, in my email recently, a reply from this business saying they defend Net Neutrality. Good. Then went on to say the reason they block«Democracy Now» is because they show videos which unfairly use bandwidth. At first glance this is reasonable. As for«Democracy Now» specifically, there are videos available, as well as audio-only streams and text dialog. Some of us would rather just read the text. It’s faster. If any stream is used it’s audio. Where their argument fails is, many news websites have video available which are all bandwidth hogs. I’d have to go back to try these other video-potential websites to see if they are blocked as well. I would expect then CNN, Fox, MSNBC, for example, to be blocked because any Transbridge customer might watch a video stream. I’ll be certain to check next time I ride the otherwise nice buses of Transbridge. There’s still that memory the blocking pop-up page referenced«political content». Honestly, I cannot be sure. End of update. Traveling on a Transbridge bus while using the convenient onboard WIFI, one article I read had a link to the legendary Amy Goodman’s «Democracy Now» website. Upon clicking the link to that website a warning popped up reporting the Democracy Now website has been blocked because of political content! This by your network Administrator. Sorry I don’t have the exact words. The sign-on page shows Saucon TDS. Saucon Technologies. This is really quite amazing. Either Saucon Tech or Transbridge decides what you cannot connect to and read. An example why Net Neutrality is essential. Sure, they are their own business and can do whatever they want. End users while traveling need to understand their surfing is restricted to whatever Saucon Tech or Transbride chooses. May be free wifi access but not freedom to roam legitimate web. Since I first posted this I sometimes think one star is too harsh. Then I am reminded this blocked site is neither illegal nor pornographic. Shameful. One star.
