Doesn’t taste anything like custard, ritas italian ice custard is much better. Very sugary and bland custard. The toppings seemed to be watered down with even more sugar. The peanut butter sauce that i love tasted like marshmallows with a hint of peanuts. Maybe if the focused on better quality ingredients and less on religious propaganda they might do better. My favorite place in bethlehem for a good quality frozen dessert is The Cup.

So after a very long car ride yesterday the rest of the clan said that they wanted dessert and not just any dessert but«something different». While our usual go-to the Bethlehem Dairy Store is more than good enough I had to think quickly of something«different». Enter the hazy memory of passing this Meadows location a few times over the summer and seeing one during a junket last year in Western PA without having any idea as to what they did other than seeing huge lines. So what does this place serve? Ripped from their website: «The Meadows Original Frozen Custard got its start in the summer of 1950 when J.V., Richard and Delbert Meadows opened a small custard stand in Duncansville, PA. Lines over fifty people deep formed immediately. It was an instant success and remains a great success to this day. Now considered a tourist attraction, the Duncansville location is still in operation and owned by Dick, Jay and Joel Meadows, sons of Delbert. Demand for the smooth, frozen treat has caused franchises to pop up, each individually owned and operated. Over fifty years later each Meadows location still serves the same recipe that got its start in 1950 and has kept our business successful for over fifty years.» There are two things here to remember: 1. The stuff is all fresh made in store. 2. While they do have a good variety of flavors it’s not like the BDS which probably has triple or quadruple the number of choices. I mean sure in a way it’s not fare to compare this place to the BDS but it’s closest thing for a point of reference. Well I mean if you have tried the custard at Rita’s versus what is sold here you’ll find out quickly that in comparison Rita’s stuff sucks. We tried the cookies & cream, a banana mikshake and a peanut butter something or other. Each was thick, creamy and fantastic. The owner was very personable giving us his menu for upcoming flavors and was very generous will the samples of which I can honestly say that all were outstanding. This place is a little off the grid for us in terms of where we usually go in Betlum but I will certainly try to make it more of a regular stop as the quality is there and so is the flavor. A+

Meadows Frozen Custard originated in Duncansville, Pa. Meadows has been making and serving frozen custard for over sixty years in Central PA. Most recently, a Meadows was opened in Harrisburg and now Bethlehem. Meadows Frozen Custard is not ice cream or soft serve, it’s frozen custard. Meadow’s frozen custard is a great frozen dairy product that is made fresh on premises, as it has always been done. The store offers chocolate and vanilla everyday, with an additional special daily flavor. My favorite flavor is chocolate peanut butter. Tea berry is also great. Meadows Frozen Custard has a printed and online schedule of the daily special flavors. Most, if not all stores, also have frozen yogurt in vanilla and a special daily flavor. The stores also offer milkshakes, banana splits, and other treats. This location is on the right side of the strip mall. The store has a walk-up window as well as indoor seating. The store sign indicates that this location will be open year-round. Service today was friendly and quick. Couldn’t ask for anything more. I’m glad there is a Meadows Frozen Custard closer to my home now. The next closest locations was 1.5 to Harrisburg. Otherwise, I would have to drive over 3 hours back to the Altoona, PA area. Go, enjoy.
