Beautiful boutique displaying Bally’s tradition of fine leather goods. Had some interesting newer handbag models, featuring ultra-lightweight unlined leather. Despite this being one of the smaller shops on Rodeo, the store feels airy and uncrowded, makes smart use of its space. Friendly staff.

15 stores in Beverly Hills later, I decide to go to Bally to find the perfect basic flat shoe. My budget is $ 400(well… that’s my parents’ birthday gift to me) and for some reason, despite our craptacular economy, it seems like Prada has hiked up their prices. 3 years ago I bought a great Prada flat for under $ 400 and wore them for 3 years. So that’s why I had to buy a new pair of flats. Bally is world-renowned for their leather goods, and with Brian Atwood at the helm as creative director, I was expecting cutting-edge design. Well, Bally is a pretty conservative label, so no stilletos here… BUT upon entering the discreetly luxurious boutique, I was greeted by a kind woman dressed simply in a black button-down and slacks. I told her I had been in every store on Rodeo, including Saks, Neiman and Barneys, and could not just find a BASIC flat for a reasonable price. She pulled out a flat shoe that she personally liked, and it was only $ 295. She was kind enough to pull out 2 styles in 2 different styles, because she said when she got the smaller size her foot kept rubbing against the back… so she grabbed me a 38 instead of my usual 37.5. Perfect fit! And so comfortable. THEN she proceeded to tell me a little about Brian Atwood and the ready-to-wear collection, showing me a leather bomber jacket(her favorite, she said) and asked me if I wanted to try it. I happened to be wearing a vintage dress and of course it coordinated perfectly with my new flats and aforementioned dress. And it was incredibly lightweight. The price? Only $ 1595. Usually, designer leather jackets run STARTINGFROM $ 3,000. So imagine my surprise! Why did she show me this marvel? I have a small torso, and it was a snug fit – you would think it’d be easy to find clothes for a petite asian girl… but I like things to fit a certain way… blame my design background for that. The saleswoman, her name was Minerva, was very down-to-earth and chatty(but not too much) with Christine L. and I, plus she knew so much about the merchandise in the store. I walked away with JUST the shoes but she said as I left, «If you’re dreaming about that leather jacket, just give me a call!» I said, «When it’s on sale please call me.» Great store, great layout, great products, great service. I’m definitely putting Bally down in my books as one of my favorite stores.

I can’t afford this but I would love to buy my boyfriend nice shoes. I don’t even look at the bags because this store represents a childhood«Mad Men» vision of my father. We used to buy his dress shoes here until he discovered Mephisto. I like Bally’s designs better. I love the details and material.

Some have an addiction to froyo, fags(the smoking kind), Dean and Deluca or like me. I’m addicted to shoes and purses that have buckles, hardware or a mix between cloth and leather. Yes, I’m naughty like that. Living in London and passing by the duty free Bally weekly on one of my business trips didn’t help my addication ATALL. After London, I moved to LA and found them at this location. This one far less snotty than the South Coast Plaze one where I think I actually quoted Pretty Womens«Big mistake. huge!!!» Their sales are even better than duty free… but don’t come close to the Dubai location which is huge. Ah.I miss buying shoes in exotic places. Now I go to Nordstrom. *sobs*

Bally is perhaps one of the lesser known designer labels in America. Though better known in Europe, I think it’s making headway in America. And it’s about time, too! Granted, the store is pretty small, with fewer items than other boutiques along famous Rodeo. But the setup of the store is very spacious and organized. The right side of the store features blocks with handbags displayed. The left side features clothing and shoes. I really like the quality. You can see/feel the neat contrast stitchings, polished buckles, and soft pebbled leather. Although very expensive(what did you expect?), I think the items are worth it. Bally def holds its own among other designers.
