Dunes Highway is a nice diversion on the trip from Chicago to Michigan City(or beyond), snaking along the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore it feels remote, but here you’ll find a few great little diversions. One of those is Dune Antiques, probably one of the best vintage and antique shops in the region. No clutter or junk here, just carefully selected items with a rustic and vintage theme. Everything is clean, and either lightly restored or untouched. Nothing is overdone. Nicely done found objects and re-purposed vintage items too. Even a few mid-century modern chairs and end tables. A large corner of the store devoted to fishing collectibles, some mounted fish, carvings, paddles, and a great selection of vintage reels and tackle. Many of the items(the furniture especially) are legitimately usable — I can not stress how junk-free this place is! It’s not a large shop, but the space is used well with items and furniture mostly divided up by theme. There aren’t a lot of small knickknacks(which is good) and there are some large decorative pieces and quality furnishings. The owner was exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable about every item I asked about. Prices are fair for what you get and the owner seems like a serious seller. This is my new favorite shop in the area. We’ll stop by anytime we’re passing through!
