It seems like Modells wants to be just a larger version of one of those mall sneaker stores. I used to get equipment to play softball, hockey, but now they have drastically cut back what they carry. I guess if you want basketball sneakers and shorts, it’s OK, but I expect a little more out of a «Sporting Goods» store than this.

Just went in to buy a sweatshirt. Great deals to be honest but it’s a weird atmosphere. I felt like an intruder in their store no one is very friendly and they were very strange

Grew up in NYC and Modell’s was the store for jerseys, hats and other memorabilia. In later years they have expanded to include more of everything you would need to go out and participate in a sport. This store is not what I am used to but more of the New England format. I have also been in the store in Nashua, NH which seems more modernized. This particular location is located in a very nice, newer looking shopping center with a bunch of nice stores. The looks of the façade would scream new, bright, inviting. At least it did for me. Well… the store itself is gloomy with very poor yellowish lighting and the registers are in the front corner which is where the staff seems to congregated. Seems like a bad location personally because the store is deep and the staff is so far from the different«sections.» If you are in the back of the store it seems you have to walk to the front to get assistance most of the time. Once you do get someone they are very helpful and very nice. The store does seem to have very good sales on name branded items so that is a good thing and makes it worth coming to. Also, the MVP shopper loyalty card helps to give you credits for future purchases and the card does not cost anything. I still feel a typical Sports Authority is a better bet for larger selection of the same or very similar merchandise.

I frequent Modell’s in Beverly, MA during sports season for my daughter. This is honestly not one of my favorite sporting goods stores to visit, however, their prices are good and they have great sales. To be perfectly honest… The place is a bit depressing. The lighting is not super bright and there never seems to be a lot of staff. When I have been there, I have never seen more than two staff and they are always hanging out by the front of the store near the cash registers. This can be a tad bit annoying when you are in the back of the store and need assistance in the shoe department. I must say though… The staff have always been more than helpful. My last purchase was two pairs of Nike women’s sneakers with a total price of less than $ 70. Not a bad deal!

Prepare to be ignored. Staff will walk out of the dept you’re in. They look bored and unhappy(one guy had his head buried in his arms on the counter). The only reason I shopped here was because there would be an ugly hole here if the place closed… The price was right though so if you know what you’re looking for you’ll have no problems.

Lackluster sporting goods store in Beverly. I’d much rather go to Dick’s or even… yes…Sports Authority. I don’t know how this place stays in business.
