There are three supermarkets in Biddeford and Shaw’s is the one that I understand the least. Shaw’s isn’t close to downtown and isn’t particularly convenient for me. And their prices aren’t all that attractive, so I have no reason to drive the extra distance to go there. If the thing that differentiates Shaw’s isn’t prices and it isn’t convenience, what is it? Sure, they’ll have for good specials and if you want to wade through the flyers you can find a reason to go, but is that their strategy? I don’t get it. But as a plus, they finally eliminated their weird little card that was required to get reasonable prices. That card chased me away and I’m glad it’s gone but I’m still waiting for the differentiator that will make me want to seek out Shaw’s. For tourists, there’s a reason to go to Shaw’s, and that’s its proximity to the Biddeford exit of I-95. Unfortunately that doesn’t do much for me. Their food is as fresh as any other supermarket and they have a nice selection so I think they’re okay, but I rarely find myself going there.
