Very Safe For Old People. The lady who served us was friendly and seemed like she actually wanted us to enjoy the food… but we didn’t. There were only three occupied tables today around 6 and i couldn’t hear my mother talking to me from just the other side of the table. It was bad enough that she actually noticed me nodding and trying to read her lips. We both had stuffed haddock, the stuffing tasted like crushed ritz crackers with butter. She got the lobster stuffing, which seemed like crushed ritz crackers with lobster. In a place other than coastal Maine I’d have been happy with the lobster in her stuffing, it was large chunks and i was surprised that i didn’t see any imitation mixed in. The problem was that when i tried a piece of one of a claw it was rubbery. I had no problem with how my haddock was cooked but my mother thought that hers was under cooked. Our mashed potatoes were barely warm enough to melt the butter. They were heavy, which i like, but somehow i had a piece of still crunchy potato. I asked for some gravy which came back warm enough to finish melting my butter. NOTHING was seasoned. I didn’t realize it until we got back to the car, but the place is perfect for people who can’t eat seasoned food, have to be careful about hot food, don’t eat much, and are deaf enough to not be bothered by a meal in an echo chamber. Also, having items at your irish restaurant like haddock y pomodoro(italian) or haddock au fromage(french) might seem cute or quaint to someone who’s lived in Biddeford for 60 years… no one who’s grown up in the modern world should be entertained by the ridiculous use of foreign words for cheese and tomato. The waitress brought our drink refills to the table AS I finished my soda, the rolls were hot and soft, and the potato skins were good.

The good news: At Wonderbar, you’ll find friendly service, good prices, and a peaceful interior. The bad news: The food wasn’t great. My Irish Melt was cold in the middle, and there was so much water in the meat that the bread fell apart. The fries weren’t very good either. The Pastrami Reuben was also too wet. The waitress was really pleasant but didn’t remember who ordered what. I’m going to assume that we hit them on a bad day because my in-laws really like this place. It wasn’t crowded on Friday at lunchtime, and while it was nice to eat in a quiet restaurant, it was quiet because most of the tables were empty. This restaurant seems to attract a mostly older crowd. They’ve been in the same spot for a while, so whatever they’re doing seems to be working. If I had a «Cheap Date Spots in Biddeford» list, the Wonderbar would definitely be on that list. Quick edit(12÷12÷13): I now have a budget dining in Biddeford list and the Wonderbar is on the list. I haven’t been back in a while so this isn’t an update.
