I was extremely disappointed. Food wasn’t very good, service was slow. they would not honor their own coupon. The bathroom was very old, in need of much repair and filthy. If I would have seen the bathroom first, I would have left right away. I do not recommend.

We went to the Blue Heron 2 weeks ago, wanting to try something new. It looks rather worn down. The wooden siding needs paint. There were spider webs hanging everywhere. We got there before 5:00 and were seated immediately by one of the front windows. The view out to the lake was beautiful. However, the window frame and wall next to our table were FILTHY. There was food splattered all over them. Really gross. Service was great. We both ordered the fried fish, and it came out within 5 minutes of us being seated. The fish and french fries were hot and crispy. The batter on the fish was very well seasoned, but it was rather greasy, leaving a puddle on the serving platter. We were offered seconds on fish, and again, it came out almost immediately, hot and crispy. We didn’t try the chicken, but the customers at the next table had it, and it looked delicious. The tab came to over $ 34.00 for 2 fish fries and 2 coffees. I don’t know if we’ll go back again. Our old standby(we’ve been going since we were dating in 1980) is Asia on National about 6 blocks west of Moorland Rd) is that for a reason. $ 10.95 for a huge platter of fish, another of french fries, rye bread and some of the best coleslaw ever. It’s always clean and the service is good, too. Step it up, Blue Heron. I’m a trained secret shopper — I know what to look for!

We went to the Blue Heron for Mothers Day Brunch. It was over priced, average food and below average atmosphere. The brunch buffet cost $ 20 for 10 year olds and older. There were scrambled(baked?) eggs, sausage and bacon(all with the same quality that can be found at Denny’s). The baked French toast was so mushy, I couldn’t get it out of the pan. They also had fish fry(cod I believe) which was so over cooked the cod was half the size of the exterior breading. They had some sort of beef stew meat and grits/mashed potatoes. I am not sure what it was, since there was no description and our waitstaff didn’t tell us. We ordered orange juice which came in a tiny 2−3oz glass. Our glasses were empty for most of our meal and had to ask several times for refills. They had cheesecake and pudding, but it was warm as it had obviously been sitting there for quite some time. The restaurant itself was very dirty and unappealing. Very old and dirty carpeting that was sticky and the bathrooms were literally falling apart. This place was unacceptable at best.

I liked the atmosphere. Though I am 35 and was the youngest there by about 20 years. Fish fry was pretty good. At least our 1st batch. 2nd batch tasted like it had sat in fryer too long. Chicken was pretty good too. Also had a coke and captain. Nice and strong. But a lot of ice. Glad we got there early(a little after 5). As we were leaving, closer to 6, there was quite a wait. Not sure I would go again but nice to check out at least once.

Very nice happy hour. ½ off drinks, chicken and fish appetizers free. Staff was exceptionally friendly. Husband loved the bacon cheeseburger. I had shrimp which was good but heavy on the breading. I liked that there were smaller plates and sandwiches on the menu in addition to steak and seafood. Atmosphere was a supper club and could use some updating, especially the restroom.

My friends and I have a bi-monthly ritual of getting fish fry together. One weekend we decided to check out the supper club we’d been hearing rave reviews about… Blue Heron! We stroll in and we’re feeling pretty young. The majority of the clientele seem to be over the hill. However, nobody looked at us like, «What the hell is that group of twenty-somes doing here?» And now I know why. The food is delicious. Plain and simple. The coleslaw is absolutely scrumptious, accompanied by the traditional slice of rye bread. The fried fish is crispy and flavorful. The baked fish is the star of the show for me, perfectly cooked with a wonderful texture that fell apart in my mouth. The fried chicken is nothing to crap myself over, but I liked it. The fries are thinly sliced, light, and perfectly addicting. To tie it all up in a bow, they have a full bar and a solid beer selection that included domestics, imports, and a few local options. I highly recommend the Blue Heron to anyone looking for a kick ass fish fry. A side note: Happy Hour is from 4 – 6, and early bird special is from 4 – 5 on Fridays.

I had not been in the Blue Heron since I was really little and when I entered this time to pick up Fish Frys on a Friday night, it looked nothing like I remember. A beautiful window in the bar area overlooks the property of a lake and trees. It was really bright inside which I didn’t remember at all. The place is small with about 20 dining tables and 4 bar tables. The place was packed but we were still helped right away and our fish fry was done at the time requested. This is by far one of the best(and most filling) fish frys in the area. I guess if you eat in the restaurant, you also get options of chicken as well. And Blue Heron also has specialty dinners once a month with a pheasant dinner or boar or something else fun. I haven’t heard of anyone going to them, but with the popularity of them, they have to be great. I hope to get back here soon to try other things, because if they are as good as the fish fry, I’ll be in foodie heaven!
