Anyone who grew up in Binghamton or spent any time there likes spiedies, marinated chunks of meat on a slice of Italian bread. They were originally made with lamb, but in recent decades, most places have switched to pork and/or chicken to save money. People under 40 think pork is traditional, because they’re not old enough to remember when chicken spiedies were only for people on a diet, and pork spiedies were considered an abomination. Now it’s almost impossible to find lamb spiedies, except at Lupo’s S&S, and at the same price as chicken or pork. The various Lupo’s restaurants in the area have different menus from each other; I think the different siblings have spun off their own places. S&S also has sweet potato fries, which other locations don’t have. Now if only they had the fried hot peppers like the Endwell location. I love this place and will continue to go there as long as I’m able.

The family and I love to stop into S &S when we’re up for a Senators or Mets game. I can never go wrong with a pork spedie combo. The burgers are pretty good also, it’s one of Binghamton’s best place though for spedies.

Well I am from upstate NY and I am familiar with Spiedie type marinades much like Cornell barbecue sauce. I really found this to be lacking any flavor. I ordered the pork Spiedie combo which is pork chunks marinated in Spiedie sauce and served dry on a bun, a side of fries and a drink. The pork was wayyy over cooked and so dry and tasteless. This on a dry bun– impossible to choke down. I ate the pork and bun separately. BTW we did ask what was the recommended way to eat it, in other words, any sauces? They responded no just plain on the bun. I would not go out of my way for this again

I hope a manager reads this. Because I’m in town from California for 2 days and I drove to the state street location for the sole purpose of ordering MULTIPLE gift boxes for clients around the country. When I told the gentleman behind the counter I wanted to order gift boxes he said it would be «easier on him if I called the phone number.» I asked him to clarify and he said«oh I’ll have to take your order and then it’ll be a couple of days before they get it» blah blah blah … he just whined, and did not want to take my order. No I didn’t call. I was heading to the airport. This is what his response should have been: «really? I’d be happy to take your order. would you like to taste a sample of something? what are you thinking of getting?» What a pity I couldn’t spend money.

The original speedie pit, never changes and that is a good thing! Get the pork speedie sub plain. As far as I am concerned this is the only thing on the menu, and every time I am in town, I make a beeline here to get it! Service is order at counter and take to your seat. Take out is also available. Raw speedie meat and sauces are available to take home to use for cooking yourself. The place is clean and service is friendly. The food is consistent. I especially encourage you to try this place if you arent from Binghamton or are new to the area as this is a staple!

Spiedies are to the Binghamton area what wings are to Buffalo. What is a spiedie you ask? Spiedies are marinated pieces of grilled chicken or pork. Lupo’s has a variety of different sandwiches made with spiedies. My particular favorite is the Caesar Chicken. This delicious sandwich features chicken spiedies marinated with caesar dressing with provolone cheese, roasted peppers and onions served on a hearty hoagie roll. So good — wonderfully seasoned and *stuffed* with meat. My wife enjoys the Buffalo Chicken. It’s also served on a hoagie roll with chicken, hot sauce, and melted provolone cheese. To be clear, The Spiedie and Rib Pit is a bit of a dive. You order at the counter, wait to be called, and find a place to sit. Nothing fancy here, but the food is well worth it. If you find yourself in the Binghamton area please do yourself a favor and stop here for lunch. I promise that it’s much better than any fast food option around. A true taste of Binghamton

Stopped here for a quick lunch on a chilly February Sunday, while driving home from Syracuse. We were looking for an alternative to a fast food chain hamburger, but Lupo’s proved to be a pitiful option. First of all, I actually did not know what a «Spiedie» was, so I was eager to try one. Having grown up in NYC eating lots of Greek Gyros, Kabobs & Falafal Sandwiches, I was hoping for something remotely similar. What we were served consisted of two barely edible«wraps,» that were rolled into thick, doughy layers; surrounding a few tiny chicken bits and a few clumps of tasteless(imitation Feta?) cheese, a little shredded lettuce, and some kind of bland white dressing. No onions, no tomatoes, no seasoning … and barely any meat. My 13 yo son, who loves«pulled pork» sandwiches, ordered Lupo’s BBQ pork on a bun, which consisted of three thin slices of tasteless«mystery meat,» slathered with what tasted like cold, bottled ShopRite brand BBQ sauce. Ugh!!! For all this deliciousness, we were charged $ 21, which also included a small self-serve fountain soda. The small, lunch size bags of chips that were piled on a retail display, had obviously been re-stickered, and were doubly overpriced at a usurious $ 3 per bag — in Binghamton, NY. You have got to be kidding! Ironically, this iconic local dining spot was merchandised up the ying yang; obviously to make up the $$hortfall for the first time diners who may have«enjoyed» a similar first impression. Everywhere you looked are Lupo’s «famous»(infamous?) bottled(and industrial feeding size) Marinades and Dressings, FORSALE … offering customers(and Cafeteria workers) an opportunity to replicate their nauseating eating experience in their own home; or at a factory, prison, or firehouse. Gee, we can’t wait to return … NOT!!!

We always stop at Lupo’s while visiting my husband’s home town. We LOVE the lamb spiedies so we call ahead. They are always tender, juicy and delicious. Get a side of salt potatoes and you can have an authentic Southern Tier experience.

For those of you not from Binghamton(or anywhere near it), speedies are the thing to get when in this city. Don’t leave without trying them. If you’re like me and didn’t know the best place to go get them, ask a local and you’ll likely end up here. Speedies are basically marinated meat, grilled over a charcoal pit, and served on Italian bread or sub sandwich. The meat is so tender and juicy; the bread is used to soak up that extra juice. Lupo’s is a great place if you want to try some speedies! It was my first time here on my last trip, but I never leave Binghamton without multiple bottles of Lupo’s marinade so I can enjoy it year round! I enjoyed both the chicken and lamb on this recent visit and was not disappointed. They also sell marinated meat to take home. You can purchase it at the restaurant, but it can also be found we Wegmans.

I’ve eaten here on occasion and it’s always good. Mostly though, I call in for takeout in bulk. A pound of cooked pork spiedies, pound of cooked chicken spiedies, half pound of lamb, several sides, a loaf of bread, some fries to go, etc. Drive there, pick it up, and take it home for all to enjoy. Always a big hit.

Lupos is a pretty big name in this town. yes, they have a great marinade, it’s usually what i buy if i’m making spiedies at home, and honestly making spiedies at home is the better alternative than going to this location. the fries here are always pretty good but the meat is always kinda lackluster and they don’t put much of it on the roll. best spiedies in the area that i’ve had were at Stu’s in Endicott, but if you’re in binghamton and don’t wanna go all the way out there then i suggest hitting up Pasquale’s on broad ave.

Best chicken marinade I’ve ever had. All my friends also say that(and they don’t know about«spiedie» because they’ve never been to Binghamton.) When someone didn’t grow up with something, and they can objectively say it’s great without even knowing what it is, that’s a good measure of quality. Highly recommend.

The place looks like a generic fast food place, but it serves the best spiedies *anywhere*. Spiedies are grilled marinated chunks of chicken, lamb or beef served on bread. They are excellent and not like anything I’ve eaten anywhere else — I can’t understand why they haven’t caught on more widely. Every time we get near Binghamton, we stop at Lupos for spiedies and take 5 – 10 pounds away to grill at home.

I would agree with previous reviews these are best I have had so far. Maybe I found a reliable stop on the way south from Syracuse! Thursdays the bar next door hosts a biker BBQ so lot was packed with about a hundred bikes. Very cool scene, hopping place. Service was good and staff was friendly. No steak available as only chicken and pork were«on the line». Chicken was great!

BESTSPIEDIES absolutely. The service could be better here. 1. There was a total B___CH behind the counter. She was in a super bad mood, snippy with her co-workers, and made me feel VERY uncomfortable. 2. The tables weren’t very clean and the wait was strange since I was just ordering meat in cup. BUT… 1. BESTSPIEDIESEVER!(even if you go to the supermarket and buy their brand meat/marinade, it’s still good!!) 2. Buying the marinade and doing it yourself is just not as good 3. Chicken… good. Pork… good. Lamb… good. 4. just bypass the bread(sandwich), and get meat in a cup! The marinade is nice and tangy, vinegary. Nothing else comes close!

Hands down the best cooked spiedies in the area. When you order ahead they will precook them for you. Great for last minute parties.
