Abe’s Buggy Rides

We rode with Abner today, who narrates the Amish countryside for 30 minutes. We had a wonderful time listening to his stories and enjoying the view. Also, we made sure to feed (and pet) Abe’s donkeys and Pygmy goats :)

Would have been 5 stars except that we had to wait over an hour for our buggy ride that we reserved a week in advance. Our driver was Earl and he gave us a very nice tour of the area. Answered all of our questions and was very friendly. Prices are high.

We wanted to show our 15 year old son the culture of the Amish and Mennonite people. He went fighting and screaming because it would be boring according to him. We arrived around around 3pm and paid $ 15 per person for a 3.5 mile ride. Our son who does say «I’m a teenager, not a child, played on the playground equipment, feed the small horses, chickens and pygmy goats. The horses are well treated and given lots of attention by the staff.
We were introduced to Ruth Anne who is of Mennonite faith and the horse Dixie. It was a wonderful experience and since Dixie decided to make an extra leisurely walk, our ride was slightly over ½ hour. The best part of this place is all the buggies are for one family per ride, no sharing of the buggy which was nice for individual attention. Ruth Anne is a teacher in an Amish school and was very willing to answer questions and we never once heard our son complain about being bored. When the ride ended our son asked if we could return next year to take a ride again. A successful and pleasant ride all the way around.

I great buggy ride and experience in Amish country our tour guides name was John an Amish man and our horses name was Dixie. We decided to go with the 2 mile tour/​20mins which was a total cost of $ 25. They also have 3 mile tour/​30mins or 4 mile tour/​45 mins
They have many horses and buggies and some farm animals that you can feed while you wait and a small playground.
I decided on this place due to the Unilocal reviews some of the other buggy ride places didn’t have the greatest reviews.
Abe’s buggy rides was great. Our tour guide was extremely nice and pleasant. He was very informative and answered any questions we had. It’s nice how they have one buggy per group so you’re not stuck on a ride with people you don’t know. If I’m ever in the area again I will definitely return for a longer tour.

Our ride was so fun. I took my 2 year old and 15 year old grandkids. Both loved it. Our driver was friendly and very informative. No question he couldnt answer. We had our own buggy. We saw many other buggy rides on our ride. All were overcrowded. I feel we had a far better experience. After we fed animals and the kids got to play on a nice playground. No pressure to buy things. Plus we could buy homemade rootbeer. I would definitely recommend this experience.

Earlier in the day we had gone to «A is for buggy ride» by the Red Caboose motel which I highly recommend.
I wanted to try out this buggy ride as they allow well mannered pets and I could bring my dog. We opted for the 30minute ride, our driver grew up Amish, never baptized and turned Mennonite so he was able to answer many of our questions. He pointed out several Amish homes in the area.
It was good but I personally enjoyed the A is for buggy ride better. Since there isn’t a listing for them I’ll review here. They offer 5 different rides, we originally wanted to take the 80 minute ride which considered of visiting an Amish home, touring an Amish wood shop, small craft store and an active dairy farm. Unfortunately there was a death in the dairy farm family so we weren’t able to go but the driver offered 45 minute drive to do all the other stops. We ended up riding along with a family of 4, it’s quit a tight fit in there but after we got situated it all worked out, after all this is how the amish travel. I can’t remember our drivers name but he grew up Amish, never baptized and married a Mennonite, they now have a 7 month old lil boy, horses name is molly-she’s smart, top speed 5mph. He apparently appeared on the show Amish mafia and is close friends with John Shmucker, I’ve never watched it but thought I’d mention it. The stop is just down the road a bit and is actually the «lil country store and mini horse farm» if u have seen this advertised, so get more bang for ur buck and do the buggy ride and get both. The mini horses and Pygmy goats were cute, the lil country store had homemade crafts including amish made potholders, locally made leather belts, items for baby, cheese, and Rebecca’s homemade root beer made with sassafras extract. Try the hard pretzel sample, delicious! He then took us to the wood working shop and upstairs where the family has church. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride, our driver was full of information, about Amish life, his buggy, how Amish use profane and pneumatic air to run their home vs. electric, how Amish church works, how they do weddings, life as an Amish child, what baptizing means for them. no questions off limits.

. My ride in the buggy with this business was the highlight of my entire trip to Lancaster. The driver, who used to be Amish, was very nice and informative about the Amish lifestyle and the things that we rode past on the road. I enjoyed riding past the farms, houses, school, and people (who are mostly camera-​shy). I would highly recommend a buggy ride from this business.

Found this place on Unilocal and wanted to give it a shot. Came here with two friends on a Saturday afternoon. As you enter, there’s place for parking your car. You need to buy tickets at the booth where you have 4 options — 2 mile/​20 min/​$ 12, 3 mile/​30 min/​$ 15, 4 mile/​45 min/​$ 20 and a longer tour. I suggest the 3 mile ride as it is ideal time to explore the Amish lifestyle.
Our buggy driver was Elizabeth, an Amish woman who was more than willing to answer many of the questions we had about their lifestyle, beliefs, etc. Our horse Sonic was in no rush to get us back to the starting place. We rode through a small Amish community, fields, an 18^th century bridge that is still used by Amtrak. The tour was fun but not an interactive one as we were expecting to visit an Amish house and meet some people, but their produce, etc. So keep that in mind before you book the tour.

Had a wonderful time at Abe’s Buggy Rides. Elizabeth was our guide and she provided much insight into the Amish way of life and answered all of our questions. The buggy tour is great for kids and adults. A great touch was the petting zoo and playground which kept our youngster entertained while waiting for the ride.

At first I thought it was a little pricy for a 1 hour ride but then…
My hubby, son and I had the comfy buggy all to ourselves along with a driver/​guide with a great sense of humor and a willingness to answer all of our questions about the Amish and the area.
The scenery was peaceful and breathtaking. We passed other buggies with upwards of 10+ people and were thrilled we chose Abe’s.
Ask for Charlie (the horse) !

Was a great time for our family of six kids 8 to 14 all enjoyed it. The driver was very cheerful and helpful with our many questions

My dream was to have a ride with my grandson. All of the staff was corteus. We invite other to do bussines with them!!!

Abe’s is really a great experience. Nancy was our guide, a very nice lady with a genuine disposition and lots of good cheer for our boys (1 and 2). The amenities are great — there is a petting zoo and a playground and none of it feels tacked on, put on or out of place. The buggy was simple, comfortable and clean, and we were given the choice of open air or closed. Kids rode for free and the value was high. I recommend it whole-​heartedly.

We went on an authentic 30 minute buggy ride through Bird-​In-​Hand. It was fun and exciting. I like the waiting area off taking pictures of the horses and other animals.
After waiting, our driver seemed a bit shy, but answered all our questions however I thought the driver we took with Aaron and Jessica (a couple of years back) was a bit more informative and educational.
I also really think they should start from a place that is not on the main road (or limit that) as with the traffic on 340 was a bit stressful… Also recommend that they stop at a real Amish farm.
Anyways… the buggy and horse was A++

We loved our buggy ride, our driver was Anna Mary and she answered ALL of our MANY questions during the 3 mile ride, about the Amish lifestyle. She and her little girls were very friendly, we chose this company because it had great reviews and I HIGHLY recommend them!

Took a 3 mile ride with the family. AnnaMary took us around. She was very nice and shared with us Amish ways. We got the buggie to ourself unlike some others that I read where you have to share with others. Friendly staff. I would recommend.

DW and our little girl went with Ed, the expert-​of-​Experts on the Amish, as he was once one of them. The twenty minute ride wound around back roads with two horses pulling a smaller cab. My two girls were by themselves and got top treatment by Ed because we got there near closing, at five. That was a lucky bit of non planing I’m proud to say.

Our driver Irwin was a wonderful resource for all things Amish. We took an hour ride and it was a wonderful experience for 3 generations of a family and ended up being the unexpected highlight of our trip. Slow down and appreciate the quiet. My in laws and son defiantly want to come back next year!

They stayed open late for us. The driver was attentive, knowledgable and patient. They had well cared for petting zoo animals and seemed to take good care of their horses. The ride was a pleasure and the driver’s knowledge of Amish culture coupled with having our own buggy really made it worth the cost (we took the 4.5 mile ride– three of us). I chose this company because they had the best web reviews and I am glad I did!

We took a good sized family on a wonderful buggy ride this morning. I really recommend this for traveling families that are enjoying everything Lancaster county has to offer. It take about an hour total and I have to tell you that our family (kids and all) really enjoyed the ride and the adults really enjoyed learning about the Amish people. I cant tell you about the other operators in town but Abe’s does a great job. Our driver was a very friendly man named Earl who has nine children and seventeen grandchildren! No question was off limits and Earl always answered with a gentle manner and a smile. We did a lot of things this weekend in Lancaster but a ride with Abe’s was the most enjoyable for everyone.
