Adamson Ford

Told me they didn’t want to service my Ford F-​350 7.3 diesel and didn’t have the Literature for it

Birmingham folks, the next time you’re looking to buy a car, I suggest you avoid Adamson Ford​in downtown. We’ve had two bad experiences with them.
I bought my car from Long-​Lewis Ford in Hoover, but we went to Adamson first because it’s much closer to where we live. The salesperson, Glen, did not seem very knowledgeable about the car and was not enthusiastic about selling it. We were not able to agree on a price, and that is to be expected when car shopping. However, after I had bought my car from Long-​Lewis, Glen from Adamson continued to call me and send me annoying e-​mails even when I made it clear that I was no longer interested. It was only after I threatened to complain to his sales manager that the harassment stopped.
The second bad experience happened the other day. My wife and I were getting ready to leave for a trip on Saturday, and we noticed that the car’s air conditioning would not come on. We figured that we could have someone at a Ford dealership quickly look at it and fix it or at least tell us what we’re dealing with. Again, Adamson was the closest dealership, so that’s where we went. The first person we spoke to was a sycophantic salesman who informed us that the service department had closed for the day (this was around 1:00, and service closed at 12), but he ushered us inside, gave us some bottled water, and had us sit down while he rushed off to… talk to another customer, not indicating when he would be back. Another employee walked by and asked if we had been helped. We explained the situation to him and asked if he had any idea what may be wrong with the air conditioner. He said that what had probably happened is that a rock or something had hit the air conditioning system, causing all of the Freon to leak out, which would result in the air conditioning shutting down to avoid engine damage. When I explained that it worked fine the day before and that I had not seen a puddle of Freon or anything in the garage, he said that what he described was just the worst case, not the most likely, scenario. At this point, we weren’t sure why we were still there — like I said, their service department was closed, but they seemed to want to keep us there. When my wife asked if we could just take the car somewhere else, the employee said that we wouldn’t find another dealership with an open service department at that time (a lie — Long-Lewis’s service department was open until 4 that afternoon). We were fed up with this person’s inability to tell us anything useful, so we left. Luckily, when we got in the car, the air conditioning worked. The Freon had not leaked out after all.
I’m sure that the employee who spoke with us just wanted us to bring the car back during their normal service hours so that they could have our business, and that’s fair; dealerships deserve to make a profit. However, I don’t trust anyone who accounts for a problem by first suggesting the worst case, more expensive-​to-​fix scenario instead of the most likely scenario. And I don’t trust a dealership that puts their own profit before customer service.
The problem with my car’s air conditioning may have been a fluke, but I’m still going to have it checked out. I will certainly not take it to Adamson.

I have purchased several vehicles from here over the years, and have been impressed. I’ve purchased new and used vehicles from other Ford dealerships in town such as Long Lewis and Town & Country, but I have never been as pleased with the service and overall experience as I have with Adamson. On a side note, I love the building the dealership is in, beautiful 100 year old restored warehouse with updated features inside.
I purchased a used 2004 RX8 in 2004 and got a SWEET deal on it, I still have no idea how they ended up with one. Got a warranty on it which helped with the few times I had an issue with it. The purchasing process was swift and painless.
I recently purchased a 2010 Ford Taurus Limited from Sparky Sparks and I love it! He really did a good job with service after the sale as well and has been available as any additional issues have come up. Definitely going back here for my next auto purchase.
