Birmingham Crossplex

Best indoor facility in the nation. Nice seating and warm up areas for the athletes. A huge venue for multiple sports to host events and a great environment for competition. Can’t wait to come back for NCAAs this year.

This is a brand new venue. Designed to host indoor track & field events and swim meets. My first impression:
NOT in a very desirable part of town. I am not a fan of going places where I do not feel safe in the neighborhood. But, there did seem to be a fairly good police presence in the area.
Well designed parking areas. A good bit of parking, laid out in a way to make it pretty close to an entrance. We were there on a day when there was both a swim meet and a track meet. There is not enough parking to accomodate dual events.
Well designed competition areas. The lay-​out of the pool area will be very good for competitions. The track arena is totally state of the art.
In the swimming area, there could be a better venting system. The air was thick with cholorine smell, the humidity rendered the walking areas slippery. It seems to me that a new facility would have a modern system to address these things.
Concessions were lacking. Staff did not care about customer service, not well organized.
Over-​all Crossplex can become a significant venue but thet will need to get things right for it to happen.
