Mediocre food. Decent service. I think it’s overpriced for no frills breakfast fare. I live right in the area. I’ve been numerous times. I have given this place a second(and third) chance. I’ve tried something from each section of the menu. Omelettes are ok, I guess. Everything else = below average. Not going back for trip #4.

Best place for true Southern breakfast in Birmingham. Reasonably priced with great service.

Awesome home style food, their breakfast was amazing. I have yet to try the lunch but will be back very soon. Can’t believe I’ve lived in Highland park for almost a year and haven’t ever tried it before.

Consistently underwhelming… I’ve tried & tried and have given you numerous chances to get it right… but it’ll never happen.

Good place for a southern breakfast. Gives off a strange feeling of an old fashion diner combined with a local high school cafeteria… Standard dishes include biscuits, gravy, egg, sausage, etc. and the menu is kept to an easy minimum. Service tends to vary depending on how packed they are, but seating is relatively fairly quick if your going solo. Possible ways to break out of that«cafeteria feel» 1. Break into the«locally sourced» trend /ingredient quality 2. Expand in coffee /breakfast drink pairing 3. Add a stowible cover to hide the«lunch bucket line» from view during breakfast hours

A breakfast place without breakfast drinks. Lame. No lunch menu on Saturdays. No fresh fruit on the menu. The menu is incredibly limited. The restaurant was cramped. There’s not sufficient space to walk between tables. I won’t be coming here again.

Still a dependable place for breakfast. I have no idea what people are talking about when it comes to rude servers, because I always get nothing but terrific treatment. Blueberry pancakes rock.

Alright, I’ll start with the positives. This place is a great spot to meet folks, drink coffee, and eat for cheap. The staff has been there forever and everyone’s really friendly. I really hate to say it, but that omelette is about as half-assed as it gets. Agh… I almost feel bad typing it out. Look, maybe the pancakes are good? Try those?

The Spanish Omelet is pretty solid. This is a great breakfast place, and the people working there are always nice.

Yummy breakfast. Very friendly service. Sat outside and relaxed on the patio, which is simple but exactly what I needed right then. Could’ve used a little more ham and cheese in my Yankee omelette so I’m guessing next time I’ll have to ask for extra:). Would recommend for reliably solid, comfort type food.

I came here as it was convenient to St Vincents after getting called in early AM. Hearty portions that hit the spot. Nothing fancy but they made my omelet just right. Little pricey for it not being anything fancy but I would come back and pay the price since large tasty portion.

Not impressed. Eggs were watery. Bacon was scant. Service was slow and I left needing a second shower. 2 stars instead of 1 because the coffee was good.

They serve great pancakes and smoked sausage. The staff is excellent. The prices are low. The portions are big. I can’t ask for anything else.

I can’t really comment on the food, it seems as though there are mixed reviews on that, but what I can comment on is the service. we arrived on a sunday morning just before noon. We walked into an unattended counter, and after standing there for several minutes a woman came up to us and barked«cafeteria style.» We mentioned we were there for breakfast, and she then barked«Un uh, lunch, cafeteria line.» Not once was a greeting or merely a hello, honestly, I’d expect better service at an eastern bloc gulag. Suffice it to say, I won’t ever know if the food is any good, because with service like that I can’t believe they are still in business.

The restaurant is not fancy, but is clean and functional. We chose to sit at the bar since none of the tables were clean. We had three different waitresses go by us without speaking, greeting or acknowledging us for over 10 minutes. The kitchen staff looked at us and smiled but never spoke or got help for us. Btw, it was not that busy. When the waitress finally did speak to us, We told her It was our first time, she didn’t say anything. No recommendations… nothing. and even seemed put out since we didn’t know what we wanted. We had to request coffee fill up and silverware. The service was frankly pitiful. The food was passable. Nothing exciting. The blueberry pancakes was the highlight. We won’t go back. It isn’t worth the effort.

This is a great«southern breakfast» place. Décor is nothing special, but to me that means they focus on the food! It has been open since 1938, everyone there felt like regulars except me! I was just passing through Birmingham but I would definitely return! I recommend the gravy and biscuit, side of bacon and coffee.

You know your normal been around forever it’s always going to be the same greasy spoon. Well you found it even though it moved into an old fire station the food and service is still the same. I enjoy the lumberjack breakfast I think that’s what it’s called with the biscuits and gravy and sausage. Have not been there in a while but enjoyed many a morning there!

Nothing fancy, but that is part of what makes it so good. The menus have no pictures, and are just a piece of paper slipped into a sheet protector. And printed on only one side. That’s you’re first tip that the philosophy around here is more than likely K.I.S.S. It’s standard southern breakfast fare.(I’ve yet to come here for anything other than breakfast, but I hope to eventually get around to trying lunch.) Most of the time, I order the linebacker’s special — lots of carbs & protein; but the menu DOES state that the omelets are kind of what they’re known for, and I definitely needed to add one more leg to my food triangle today, so veggie omelet it was. Comes with your choice of grits or hash browns, biscuits or toast. I happened to add sausage patties. I just had to. All of that rolls in at $ 10, but it’s not a plate of food, it’s a platter. The sweet waitress even asked if I wanted a bowl of gravy with that… Yes, please! I can say that you will not leave here without a full belly. And back to what the waitress told me about the gravy — you need some energy for the day! It can get a little goofy on the weekends, especially the closer you get to noon(which is closing time on Saturday & Sunday). So I say get here early if you can, even if that’s advice I have a hard time with myself. When it comes to breakfast, Bogue’s is a Birmingham staple.

This place is pretty low key. Nothing fancy. Super friendly, we ate at 9:30 on a Sunday with our three young kids. Basically it’s the kind of southern breakfastmeal I would cook at home; «breakfast like mama use to make». My kids loved it and everyone was very sweet and friendly the bacon was nice and thick, the grits were seasoned perfectly. The biscuits were absolutely delicious. My husband got the o-linebacker and was pleased. I got the veggie omelet and it was really good. I did wish the green bell peppers in it would have been cooked more. In all a very yummy, inexpensive down home breakfast!

This place is good for a standard greasy spoon diner breakfast. It was good, but not spectacular. Very plain, diner/cafeteria type atmosphere, average service, decent food. Bogue’s served it’s purpose well for us that morning, but I probably wouldn’t make it my go-to breakfast spot.

Bogue’s is fine and that is the probelm. For breakfast, it’s standard diner fair but they must cook one egg at a time as the orders take forever, then you have to wait to pay the check, etc. Plus it can be really crowded. With that said, the food is always pretty good if unseasoned and service is adequate. We live close so we go there for weekend breakfast on occassion when we do not feel like cooking at home. Have not been for lunch in years but the meat and three was about as good as the Piggy Wiggly down the street for nearly the same cost. Meat and threes are no longer cheap fare.

The closest thing to a decoration inside of Bogue’s is a light switch. The menu is old, and sad, and the lamination has given up in multiple locations. The waitresses are wearing what would be considered pajamas in many places. And yet I cannot recommend Bogue’s highly enough. Basically, Bogue’s is a place to get real, home style southern breakfast. At that, it massively exceeds expectations. I ordered the first thing on the menu — the O-Lineman special. Despite my obvious sub-175lb weight and latent Judaism, the waitress did not, at any point, question my offensive line potential. This single menu item included the following: 4 Eggs and a choice of 6oz Chop Steak or 4 slices of Bacon or 3 Sausage Patties, Grits and Hash Browns, a large bowl of Gravy, Toast or Biscuits. Screw you, body. The eggs were nothing fancier than a diner, but they were great. The sausage was great. The biscuits and gravy were like crack. Only the chop steak was a disappointment — it was wildly overcooked in a patty shape and looked like either the food or poop of a mid-sized terrier. The most important thing to note is the sweet rolls. Dear Jesus. They are like an unholy alliance between a Cinnabon and the softest thing you can imagine(like, bunny siting on a cotton plant wedged between a natural F cup soft). I have never had any breakfast roll like that. The waitress was really funny and down to earth, and when she saw that I didn’t eat the steak, she said she knew it was overcooked and took it off the bill without being asked. The entire meal for four was something like $ 35. I don’t know if I’ll ever have the chance to come back, but I will forever remember the gluttony that took place here.
