The atmosphere here reminds you of a neighborhood bar. The staff are very friendly and the drinks are reasonable. However, it gets crowded so fast inside and out. If you get nervous with crowds… go early… sit on the patio and relax!

Dave’s is my favorite bar in Birmingham. When my friends and I are going out we always say we will go to Dave’s and then go wherever the night takes us. We inevitably end up having such a great time we stay until Dave’s closes. Mudd and Wild Bill are the best bartenders in town closely followed by Eric from Carrigans. They are very friendly, entertaining, and can come up with any creative cocktail for you. Live music can be a bit loud, so I just sit on the porch to listen. I recommend going on Thursdays when they have the Karaōke Dance Party. On Saturdays during football season they grill out free food!

With a awesome name like Dave’s, how could I not stop in. They had several local beers on tap as well as the entire length of the bar full of bottled beers. I had to grab a shirt while I was there due to the cool name. Good service and my group won a $ 20 bar tab while playing trivia. I would say stop in for a few cold ones.

I am a fan. The night I went there were some LOUD persons there ruining my experience. But I fully believe if they were not there then it would have been very pleasant. I haven’t been back yet but I surely will be.

Came here after the 4th of July fireworks display! A little too dark for my liking but I loved the atmosphere! They had a live Dj who played EVERYTHING! He didn’t stick to just one genre! It was great! We had a drink and headed home but if it was on any other night where we didn’t just hike 13.5 miles, we would have stayed a lot longer! Loved how festive the bartenders were with their red white and blue attire!

This place has been around a long time, and is always crowded… like it is the place to hang out and be seen. The patio out front is the only real appeal to me, and it is VERY small and crowded. As for the drinks, they are nothing special and average priced. I know that some people just love it… guess I just don’t get the appeal!

I had written my original review about the wrong«Daves» — the horrible service, rude staff were at Dave’s Pizza

Most friendly staff guided me in the right direction on the locally brewed IPAs. Nice outside area where you can see the city. Nothing but good memories from this place!

Definitely my go-to place for a brew. They always have a great, albeit small, selection on tap, and the bartenders(Mud, Kim, etc.) are extremely knowledgeable about their selection, both on tap and in the trough. Dave’s is a great place to go to sit on the porch with your friends and unwind after a long week.

It was very quite and dark in side with unfriendly staff. 6 people at the bar at 8.30 with all the restaurant tables empty. How does this place survive?

I like Dave’s a lot. When I first moved to the area, it was my go-to spot on the weekends. The music gets kind of loud, but the outdoor area is perfect for people-watching. Everyone that works here(Mud especially) is great. They’ll have a conversation with you while making drinks, which I appreciate. If you go here more than twice, the doorman will definitely recognize you, which isn’t the case at most of the bars in the area. Some of my friends don’t enjoy Dave’s so much, which I understand. The people that go here are pretty hipster. They aren’t the most pleasant people to drink around sometimes. There’s never a cover here, even when there’s a live band. They also have a great beer selection and will let you bring in whatever food you want. I have a lot of good memories at Dave’s and wish the place nothing but the best. PS: This place is DEAD on weekdays, which is part of its charm.

Been going here for years. Always a good rotation on the tap wall and plenty of excellent options in the trough. Speaking of, sign up for the trough list.

If I could only count the number of nights that I spent in Dave’s. This is a classic place to drown your sorrows in a beer and has been a staple of the Five Points/Southside area for years. I like the divey atmosphere where it’s a little darker than it needs to be and you can belly right up to the bar for a drink and a chat with the bartender. Dave’s has been fortunate that they have had a steady stream of competent bartenders who are knowledgeable about the products that they serve but are also fun and entertaining to have a conversation with. They have spruced up the inside and it’s for the better. I am not sure how I feel about the awning outside but I can see why they would put it up, so people can hang out and smoke outside even when it’s raining. Whenever I am in Birmingham, this is my go-to for a good beer.

This is for idiot frat boys ONLY. I’ve been there dozens of times with all kinds of friends over the years & have never once had a good experience. If you want to end up buying 5 to 10 shots for people you do not know, then this is your bar. Loud & zero atmosphere. Go there to be seen by people at the stop light – that’s it.

In a city like Birmingham, there’s only so much time one can live here before finding out exactly what one wants from the nightlife and where to find it. After many years(and many drinks), Dave’s Pub has become my go-to bar for many reasons. Firstly, the crowd always has its variants, but you can always count on running into good people. The drink prices are very reasonable and the staff are friendly, yet stern when needed. Live music from time to time keeps things interesting and makes for a great place to take your date after dinner. No pool, though(hence the 4 stars). All in all, I feel confident that I could suggest this bar to anyone of any age or background. Try the trough challenge, too, if you dare.

I’ve decided to upgrade Dave’s to 4 stars! It deserves the extra star because of the excellent, FREE music they provide as well as some pretty kick ass drink specials. They don’t do the stupid happy hour thing that ends before I even make it out. They last all night. Almost every Thursday night this summer I’ve been enjoying some of the finest music Birmingham has to offer as Dave’s has been hosting Sam Gunderson Trio. Please do yourself a favor and check them out. And as always, sitting out on the patio hanging with some friends, having a beer.

I grew up in Bham, but never experienced it’s nightlife until I moved up to Nashville. Whenever I come home, I always seem to swing by here with friends and family. It’s a lowkey joint with good beer and always a good conversation.

I wish I could give this place 4 stars, but in all honesty its been almost 2 years since I’ve visited Birmingham and I was only at Daves for maybe an hour, BUT, in that hour, I had a good time. Downtown Birmingham is now one of my favorite places, sort of a smaller 6th street Austin type area. Very cozy. Daves has a nice outdoor patio, which everyone knows I’m obsessed with. The bartenders were very helpful, and laughed when I asked for any vodka other than Mckormicks which they said they did not have anyways(THANKGOD) Me and my boyfriend at the time left Texas at 11PM and arrived in Birmingham at 11AM. My favorite singer Will Hoge was due to play the next night at the Sloss Furnace, but the show ended up cancelling so we went out. We ended up partying with three guys from Washington down for Talledega, which also got rained out, so downtown Birmingham was packed with people from all over. One of the best nights of my life so far, and it all started with Daves.

Meh. Not great. Expensive, and not what I was looking for on one of my first nights out in Birmingham. They weren’t that busy, yet it was still difficult to get the bartender to pour me a drink. Note: I had tipped 100% on my first drink, so common bar thinking is that the Bartender will pay attention. Nope.

This is probably the best bar in 5-Points. The ONLY reason I don’t give them five stars is because they allow smoking, which is absurd in 2012(for some reason it’s still normal in Alabama). I would not hesitate to spend all night in Dave’s Pub if I could breathe. They even have a small outdoor porch with chairs and benches, but people come outside to smoke too. You cannot escape the stink of cigarettes and you will smell like an ashtray when you leave. Having said that about the smoking, the bartenders are very friendly and fast with the drinks. They have an excellent selection of beer. I didn’t have any cocktails, but plenty of people did and they seemed to enjoy them. There are a few TVs and it’s in a good location. It’s about average as far as prices go and they have happy hour, so you won’t go broke here. It gets loud, but WTF, it’s a bar.
