Horrible customer service. HORRIBLE room, peeling wallpaper. We were on the honors floor. Ice machine broken, 30 mins to check in. But hey, there was some lady walking around handing out cookies! Here’s a better idea, get your ass behind the counter and help people get checked in!

Horrible front desk customer service!!! Tried checking in at 11pm tonight. Not very helpful!!! If I could give 0 stars I would!

Should have read more reviews before booking.
I booked and checked in on a government rate and they put me in the shittiest room they could muster. I could hear every word from the connected room next door… much sex and female loudness. Also, from the bathroom vent I could hear everything from the room above me… not nice noises. There is no microwave, I requested a fridge and it fits a 6 pack. Oh, and the bathroom smells like urine… all the time. The facet is nearly hanging on, the bathroom door nearly doesn’t clear the toilet when opening the door to use the restroom. I hate this place and I will never stay here again.

This hotel is showing some wear and tear, but the friendliness of the staff more than makes up for it. We were warmly welcomed at the front desk. Our room was clean and comfortable with a mini refrigerator. There is a bar in the lobby area where you can eat and have a cocktail. We walked to Chez Fon Fon and enjoyed an unforgettable meal. The breakfast servers were beyond pleasant and the breakfast buffet was delicious. Complimentary self-​parking for guests is available at a garage connected to the property. I would stay here again.

Go to the La Quinta. Don’t waste your time here. Yes they may bribe you with nice warm cookies but the customer service SUCKS ASS! I left a personal item in the room and it has been hell trying to get it back. It has been 2 weeks no with no return call or anything. Every Time I call I get hung up on. The beds are like concrete and the pillows are flat. Save your money and go to the La Quinta!

Stayed at the Doubletree May 1 – 4, 2015. The room was small, close to the elevator and strangely equipped. The bathroom door hits the commode. The office chair does not fit under the table. The cushions on the arms are damaged and scarred from being pushed under the table. There is a chair wedged between the bed and the window such that you can’t get up on that side of the bed. The restaurant is high priced and awful.

Candis and her team at the Doubletree were so very accommodating. I was in town for a wedding on ⁴⁄₂₅ and booked at the desk, last-​minute. I don’t want to describe in detail, but I can’t thank her and her team enough for being so hospitable and catering to me.

We went to Birmingham over the Easter weekend for a softball tourney. Doubletree was the host hotel and we have stayed at them before. With that said, I would have expected our hotel room to have been nicer, but it feel short of those expectations.
The biggest issue was the air. We like our room to be 66. However, it never got below 72 the first night. When I complained about it, all they did was note it for maintenance to fix it. We did not even get a phone call from the manager apologizing. To make matters worse, they could not even tell us if they came up to fix the issue or if it fixed itself.
Last but not least, the furniture in the hotel lobby as well as in our room looked to be from the 90’s. It was dirty and uninviting. With that said, the bed was comfortable and there were plenty of pillows.

As far as Birmingham hotels go, this one is about on par. I think that others have adequately hit the high points. It certainly could use an update, the carpets are worn in many places, the elevators are old (but very efficient). The room is comfortable and clean. The air-​conditioner is LOUD, like vibrates all night long loud. The bathroom fixtures are dated. The front desk staff is very friendly and check-​in was efficient. I visited the restaurant on a couple of occasions and found the staff to be very friendly and the food standard hotel restaurant food. One of the pluses: the parking structure ($ 10/​day) has a direct entrance to each hotel floor at each level (Example: if you are staying on the 5^th floor, you can park on the 5^th level of the parking garage and enter directly onto the 5^th floor)…some might argue this isn’t a perk, but a safety issue… My room was facing 20^th St and it was a bit loud (sirens, heavy traffic) but nothing that the loud air conditioner didn’t balance out!
I was traveling for business and my company paid for the stay and had a corporate rate, so I can’t comment about the value for the money. From my experience with staying in Birmingham hotels, this one is just as good (if not a touch better) than the rest and I would likely return when I visit the area again.

Stayed here during a softball tournament. It was a fine stay. The staff was friendly and nice. The facilities were average. There isn’t really anything GREAT about this hotel… but there isn’t anything bad either. It was also a decent price.

This hotel could stand to be updated as I question the cleanliness of the chairs & sofas in the lobby; they look very used.
Check in went really well. I was greater with smiles & the highest level of hospitality. There are no words to describe how friendly & professional Jeff & Rue were. If I could come back just to see them, I would.
I ended up checking out and checking back in as I was asked to stay by my company. My second room, 218 was just as lovely as 216 however… The bathroom reeked of mold. I know moisture builds especially since hotel bathrooms are never built with fans, so it’s important to do a thorough bleach treatment once a month.
The hotel restaurant was standard fare for doubletree. I truly wish I could protest against the flourless chocolate molten cake. The cane it’s great, it’s just bitter and desperately needs flour.
if ever life brings me to Alabama again, I would stay here.

Too many other, nicer, hotels near by. Staff are not as professional as other Doubletree’s I have stayed at. Management needs to go.

Definitely not worth the high rates. I don’t mind paying a few hundred dollars for a hotel room, but this location did not deliver what a guest can reasonably expect.
The front desk was incredibly inefficient. My check-​in took 17 minutes, even though I was the only guest at the desk. Additionally, the three employees behind the desk complained about work the entire time I was standing there. It was clear that they hated working here by the comments they made, the pouty expressions they wore, and the way they slumped over the desk. Admittedly, they did perk up when the pizza they’d ordered finally arrived.
The room (1101) appeared to be clean, with recycling bins adding a all, but appreciated touch.
No mini fridge. Come on! This is 2014!
2 bottles of water.
Mini coffee maker — very flimsy and made terrible noises, including a piercing siren when brew completed. Cheap coffee.
3 bags of tea.
Creamer in little plastic containers. Unfortunately, I put one in my coffee and it was curdled. Ugh.
A/​C was efficient, but jarring whenever it cycled. Prepare to be wakened several times throughout the night.
Beds were comfortable. Plenty of pillows. Down comforters.
No functioning exhaust fan in bathroom. The vent is still there in its crusted and furry glory, though.
Paint bubbling on bathroom ceiling.
Lack of electrical outlets for CPAP machine.
Bathroom is quite odd. The toilet is rightnextto the shower. Dangerously close. Also inconvenient when attempting to turn water on/​off.
They charge you for parking. The parking lot is quite dark. Be careful. It made me nervous to see so many signs plastered everywhere about the hotel not being responsible for theft. At these rates, the hotel should have a dedicated watchman.
Room décor was fresh and inviting.
Convenient location.
Walking distance to restaurants and entertainment.
It was quiet.

Arrived one evening and front desk was a little slow to check me in.
Elevators are super fast, that’s a star just for that.
Rooms are clean, cozy.
Hotel is got a modern touch but, still old and has squawks that need to be fixed.

Dirty room, check in took forever. Two old shampoo and conditioner bottles in my shower and hair in the sink makes me question the cleanliness of the rest of my room… I wonder if my sheets are clean ?
I think I’ll stay somewhere else next time.

This hotel offered us everything we needed: a comfy and clean bed, walking distance to dining and drinking, well-​funtioning office services, and a free shuttle between the hotel and airport. The price was reasonable compared to competitors. We would return without a doubt.

This was a pretty bad experience. Check in was suppose to be at 3:00 pm. I drove 4 hours to get there and when my party was ready to check in we were told our room was not ready. The girl at the front desk was one of the worst customer service providers I have encountered. We had to wait until about 5:15 to check into our room.
The next morning they were harassing us to check out on time. Come on!
The lady at the bar was great! At least she was cultured and professional, you should maybe put her behind the desk and get rid of that snoody white girl.

Not a bad hotel, it’s located very close to the five points area. They offer a courtesy shuttle to the airport, a nice fitness center, a swimming pool and other amenities that you would expect from a Double Tree.
Some negatives:
— I requested a fridge for my room and they brought me a broken one which resulted in spoiled food!
— No wifi in the rooms, only wired internet
— They would not give me honors points since my company paid for the hotel room
I would suggest that if you have the option, look for something different in the area that will give you more bang for the buck!

I am halfway through a two week stay here at the Birmingham Doubletree. This is my third trip here and all were for extended stays.
I will start out with the good things about this hotel.
1. The location in downtown Birmingham is semi-​convenient and 5-​points is a short three block walk away. There are several average restaurants there and a few cool bars to have cocktails.
2. Sue the bartender in the lobby is very friendly and funny. She is fast with a drink and she remembers what you say and calls you by name.
3. The elevators are FAST! They probably have the best elevators that I have seen in any hotel.
4. The parking is great. They have a garage attached and access to the building from all six garage floors.
Now for the things that need improvement…
1. They do not have an ATM (Yes this is 2012).
2. They do not have laundry machines. This may not bother most people, but when you stay somewhere for weeks or months at a time, this is a big deal.
3. NO WIRELESS INTERNET IN THE ROOMS! They have a «Wireless Café» in the lobby, which is also known as «the lobby with Internet», so they can technically advertise that they offer Wi-​Fi, but NOT IN THE ROOMS. So if you don’t have 3G built in or your own wireless hot spot, you may as well leave the iPad at home. They do have wired Internet connections, but they are expensive and SLOW (unless you are a diamond member like me in which case it is free and SLOW).
4. No refrigerators in the rooms.
5. Small rooms. You cannot use the toilet while the bathroom door is open.
6. The place needs updating big time. The old wallpaper in the halls is turning yellow and peeling.
7. The TVs are the old timey CRT tube type (not LCD/​Plasma).
8. The exercise equipment is out of date and used.
Overall this is not a terrible place to stay. The breakfast tastes good. It’s clean. They have a pool and most of the staff is friendly. I would guess that when this place was new, it was state-​of-​the-​art, but that was probably several decades ago. If they upgraded the equipment and rooms to average specs, this could be a three diamond hotel again.

The room was a little on the small side, but overall decent.
There was no mini-​fridge in the room which was a little disappointing.
The internet here is strictly wired, no wifi, and also costs you a whopping ten dollars a day. If they’re going to make you pay they could at least give you wifi!
Also had continued issues with my room key. It almost seemed like every time I would leave I would need a new room key. Rather annoying when you’re on the upper level floor.
The pool looked decent, but it was in the shade the entire day.
