Embassy Suites Hotel

Overall, this was a very disappointing stay.
If it were just the accommodations that were unsatisfactory, I would not have rated it so poorly, but it was the neglect and thoughtlessness, and inattention to detail that made my stay so poor.
We made a reservation while on the road, for a two-​bedroom suite. What we got was a two-​bedroom suite, but with a conference table and no living room. For a family of four, with two little boys, on the road, this was pretty unexpected and not ideal. Upon entering the room, it was clear that someone had failed to do some kind of job, but which job that was was not immediately apparent. :-) There were depressions in the living room carpet which seemed to indicate that furniture had been moved. In that part of the carpet there was a lot of dirt and debris, seeming also to indicate that the furniture had been moved and the area underneath was not cleaned afterward. It seemed like the huge chest of drawers in the hallway was previously situated in that part of the carpet. My guess is that there was a big stain or other problem in the hallway and they decided that it was better to cover it up with the chest of drawers and leave a glaring problem in the living room.
We went to the pool area. I saw that the large set of shelves that was supposed to contain towels was empty. I tried to leave the pool area to go to the front desk and report the towel situation, but I couldn’t exit the pool area; the door was magnetically locked and my key card wasn’t opening the door. Finally, after numerous attempts, the door mysteriously opened. I have no idea what I did except maybe step back momentarily. I went to the front desk and was virtually waved off by the clerk once I expressed my concern. She acted like they were well aware of it and were on their way already with more towels. I went back to the pool area. My family and another family that was already there (and also needing towels), were there for at least another 20 – 30 minute before anyone came with towels. And he only brought about four of them. :-) And (!!) — the best part — when the guy went to leave, I watched him because I wanted to know what the trick was to opening the door. He couldn’t open them either! He stood back trying to figure out what was going on, tried it several more times, and finally opened them somehow.
So, the lack of good service, the inattention to detail, the lack of cleanliness — all of these made me really regret springing for the Embassy Suites when a well-​reviewed Comfort Inn probably would have been much more pleasant.

I recently stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip to Birmingham:
– Reasonably priced for a business stay
– Huge 2 room suites
– Wet bar in room with fridge & microwave
– Free hot breakfast
– Cocktail reception with free beer, wine and liquor every evening during the week
– Free wifi
– Attached Ruth Chris Steakhouse
I found my room to be clean and in good condition, the bed to be comfortable, and the climate control in good working order. The staff was friendly and the property was in what I would consider an excellent location — convenient to downtown, central business districts and suburb business districts, easy highway access, central to a number of great dining & drinking establishments (several great spots within a 5 minute drive and a couple even within walking distance).
I was even able to have a client meet me for lunch at the hotel because he wanted to go to Ruth Chris, which made things very easy for me.
I am elite with both Hilton and Marriott brands, travel frequently, and would definitely stay in this Embassy Suites again. Recommend for business travelers.

This hotel is terrible. I travel often for work and typically stay at about 2 to 3 Hilton properties a week. If I could give this hotel no stars I would. I typically have no issues with any Hilton properties, but this location was for, lack of better words, disgusting and dated. I don’t typically like to write reviews, but I was so grossed out by this hotel I felt like I should.
1. The front desk staff didn’t necessarily seem to know what they were doing. They were slow (sorry but true) and didn’t give me the correct room key so I had to go up and down to get the correct room key. After a long day of traveling, when you’re exhausted, this is the last thing you want to deal with. Employees in the service industry should be readily aware of this. They should be efficient at their job.
2. When I finally got to my room (the quality of the rooms alone is another issue that I will discuss below), I noticed walking up to my room the drapes were messed up. When I opened the door, the room smelled absolutely disgusting. There were towels, sheets, chip bags, and big gulps all over the room. It was disgusting. I don’t understand how you could miss putting a guest in a room that hadn’t even been cleaned. Mind you, this was at 8pm, so there was ample time to clean the room being that checkout is at noon.
3. Nevertheless, I understand that slip-​ups happen. I went back downstairs and asked for a new room because I figured someone just missed something and I convinced myself, for this brief moment, that it wasn’t a big deal. The next room they put me in was not the same style room that I initially reserved. The front desk didn’t even mention this when they re-​assigned me a room (once again poor service). That was irritating enough, however it was late and I figured I would stick it out. While in my NEW room I saw something sticking out from under the bed. I looked under the bed and there again, was empty chip bags and dirty towels. I understand that this was «under the bed,» but a hotel shouldn’t cut corners in cleanliness and if this hotel was this obvious about it, who knows what other areas of cleanliness they cut corners at. Absolutely disgusting. It became apparent to me that this hotel had a cleanliness issue. It was just disgusting.
4. Room service is slow. It took my chicken sandwich and fries an hour and a half to get to my room.
5. Yes there is a Ruth Chris at this hotel, which initially brought me there. However, its dated. Not worth it, in my opinion.
6. The rooms are dated. Its an open hotel meaning that there’s a lot of activity going on right in the open center of the hotel. So if you’re traveling for business and need a quiet place to stay, good luck. Also, don’t be enticed by the «suite» prices. That’s where I stayed, and they remind me of a motel room. It’s not worth it. The sheets weren’t fitted around the bed, in fact there wasn’t even a «fitted» sheet, but just a sheet. The duvet covers were horrible as well. Stay at the Doubletree closer to downtown, or just downtown for that matter.
My final point is that I’ve stayed at about 4 other Hilton properties in the Birmingham area and 2 in Montgomery and I have zero complaints. This place is not worth your time or money. It’s gross.

Not our first stay at an Embassy Suite but never before at this location. Room was difficult to climate control?
Bed leaned to headboard which was really annoying! And pillows were super soft, in this case was bad too!
Food and drinks at supper time were free but they were not good at all!
Breakfast on the other hand was scrumptious! Hand made omelettes were amazing and fresh fruit. Enjoyed this part of our stay!

The hotel itself isn’t terrible but it isn’t up to the standard of a typical Embassy Suites. I would pick a different hotel in the future.
The room needed a little TLC but it was clean. The air did not work properly and it was hot. Plus, the bed was sloped.
Ruth Chris is on the property and they also have a good breakfast.
The location is quite and kind of tucked out if the noise. The location is easy proximity to downtown. The staff is also very friendly.

For $ 113/​night with free wifi, free alcoholic drinks, free snacks (chips and hummus) none the less this hotel is legit.
The missing star is for our bed once we arrived smelt like horrible odor, we told them and they changed the sheets within 15 minutes so not that bad. The hotel is late 80’s early 90’s which in my opinion is the coolest thing ever, I love it.
The beds are comfortable, there was two sinks, a huge counter with fridge and microwave, many lamps, any accessible outlets for plugins and charging your phone. Also a balcony door to access the beautiful Alabama views. This hotel is totally awesome for a few nights stay, no complaints here. The Restaurant inside this hotel «Ruth Chris» is an absolute joke, did not eat dinner but dessert and drinks, the bartender was lacking basic skills, and the dessert tasted like a week old and had no love whatsoever put in to it.
This hotel is epic, beautiful, flash back, retro vibe to it and is pretty clean with great staff. The charge for coffee in the lobby is pretty crappy but the drinks make up for it. I’d stay here again.

First time at any Embassy Suites. Big place on a hill, parking lot on a slant, all sides of building. Built with all rooms opening on a skylit atrium. Nice idea, but sound funnels up to your room. You can close the bedroom door and noise isn’t a problem from the atrium. I did hear people singing Happy Birthday above me, but that wasn’t too bad. I liked the bed and pillow, my husband didn’t. Nice place with a few dings. Reviews that said it was in bad shape must have much higher at standards than me or be pretty prissy. Loved the suite idea, multiple seating areas, two TVs, table with office chair. Big bathroom, no hitting elbows in the wall. Made to order breakfast included. I don’t know what that means besides omelettes, I saw syrup, so it may include pancakes. Buffet with scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage. Different bar with breads, another with fruit and yogurt. It was all as good as home cooked. Bacon was delish. Coffee, juice, tea, soft drinks. There is a Ruth Criss Steakhouse in the lobby with valet parking. All the usual with a better motel, business center, exercise and laundry, pool, room service.

Hotel allowed family and friends from out of town for wedding. Close to Gabrella Manor and various sites to visit. The suites were large and bedrooms were on the backside of the courtyard area so they were quiet. The rooms lighting was very yellow tint. Older hotel… The bathroom’s water was set much lower that normal. Thus showers were luke warm. Loved having the breakfast each morning. Selection for fruits was minimal. Wish there had been better choices. Having an omelet was AWESOME! However, on Saturday with 4 weddings, Alabama/​LSU game, there was only one person working the station for omelets and pancakes. Wait was 15 minutes in the line. Ordered room service sandwich on Sunday. The service was nice but the sandwich had stale bread. Disappointed.

Although spacious, rooms not very clean, need repairs. Staff was ok. Rooms need more towels. Beds were very uncomfortable. The mattresses sunk like old, flimsy ones. Do not disturb signs not provided. Just an overall half-​ass attempt at good accommodations. I don’t know much about the area, but if this is the best that the area’s got, that’s sad.

The staff was friendly and the location is great; it’s 10 – 15 minutes from anything you want to do in Birmingham. They staff is very accommodating and tried their best to help out with any issue you might have. Breakfast, as usual for Embassy Suites Hotels, is solid, and the Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse has very affordable lunch options.
That being said, the Wi-​Fi there is a joke. It’s 2015, it’s ridiculous that you charge for so-​called «premium Wi-​Fi» that is no better than the normal Wi-​Fi (which is free to Hilton Honors members). Worst part is, the normal Wi-​Fi is pretty horrible, as well.
The other really glaring thing is the towel situation. The towels do a better job of scraping the water off of you versus actually drying you off.
Not too bad, not all that great. Pretty average.

This is the first review I’ve written for Unilocal.I normally don’t, but this was worth writing about. I stay in Hilton hotels when I travel for work, and I do not plan on coming back to this one. The hotel itself is one of the oldest/​most run-​down Embassy Suites I’ve stayed in. The fitness center is tiny and the breakfast is OK.
The worst part of the experience was the room service. It’s from the Ruth’s Chris, which one would expect to be nice. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and it took over an hour to get to my room. I get that they were busy, but that’s an absurd amount of time for a half-​assed salad. I asked for the dressing on the side, but the dressing was mixed in with the lettuce when I received it. The chicken was OK – kinda dry.
The weirdest part was the server that brought me the salad. He walked into my room both times he came up, which was especially weird since I was staying by myself and they usually respectfully wait outside. He acted like it was a huge burden on him to take my credit card back down to pay. When he came back, he asked if I’d called downstairs to complain because apparently someone else had and their manager was angry about it. I guess I’m not the only one who was dissatisfied with their food. Then, when I was signing, he suggested I tip in cash so that we could ensure that he got the tip. He inferred the tips aren’t split evenly. That was a weird situation to put the customer in, especially since I didn’t have the correct cash to tip.
Overall, I’m very underwhelmed by this hotel and the restaurant inside of it. I will look for somewhere else to stay when I’m in Birmingham next.

This is typically my go-​to hotel in B’ham, but I was disappointed in my recent visit. Stained ceiling, empty beer bottle on top of armoire, coffee maker didn’t work and filthy liner for ice bucket. Ice bucket was dirty, too.
On a positive, it’s in a great location, and there are many great restaurants nearby. Saw’s, DeVinci’s just to name a couple …
I’m not giving up on it yet, but another visit like this one, and I’ll be marking it off of my list.

I stayed at this hotel for work. The room was nice and spacious. There was also a Ruth’s Chris in the hotel, which was nice for food and drinks, without leaving. I rated this hotel three stars because the complimentary bar and breakfast were really nice.
On the downside, the floors in the bar area were really sticky all day and several of my room towels were stained. The bathroom had some small bugs and I wasnt sure where they had come from, because the linens and everything else appeared clean.
The rates were moderate, it was a good location, and the staff worked swiftly in check in. Because of cleanliness, I would not stay at this hotel again.

This hotel overcharged me and has been refusing to refund my money for an evening I was not even present for. The management at this hotel is in need of some major improvements. I have never experienced anything like this before. They are asking for proof that I was in a different state on the day they are claiming I was present. I feel like it’s some cruel joke. Also I was promised a crib for my daughter in which I confirmed with the hotel on two separate occasions prior to arriving. When I arrived they told me they did not have cribs. I insisted and they eventually «found» one which was incredibly inconvenient after a 12 hour road trip with a toddler. There are huge communications issues here and it is poor business practice.
The rooms are outdated and the staff needs improvement. I would highly recommend staying elsewhere.

This is my third or fourth stay at this hotel. The front desk service is alright. I got in early and the front desk person was able to check me in right away.
My room is on the 7^th floor and faces the freeway. Despite the height, I can hear the traffic from way below. Make sure you ask for a room away from the freeway to get a good night of sleep.
Ruth Chris restaurant is located within the hotel but it is pricey. I wish there were other choices available.

The hotel staff are very friendly and the atrium is clean and nice. The swimming pool area was one of the nicer set ups for an Embassy Suites. I would rate it higher except that my room was pretty beat up and was only 1 bed instead of the 2 that I reserved. My room was very quiet and the location was great with very easy access to the interstate and downtown. A good business rental location.

We are Hilton property regulars, and were disappointed with this one. The atrium is well-​kept, and they have done a moderate job in updating the rooms. Because it is an atrium layout, the rooms are loud. Ask for a room in the back of the hotel, corner if possible. The rooms facing the street also have loud street noise.
Two of our three days we had no washcloths, nor did our friends staying there. The breakfast is highly unorganized, and it took us almost 20 minutes to get an omelette.
The highlight of our stay was the shuttle driver, Jeremiah. He was professional, always on time, and a joy to be around. He drive us to our dinner destination all 3 nights we were there. It seemed to us that this property needs management that understands customer service, and Jeremiah would be an excellent candidate!

I like the Embassy Suites format. A large central atrium where each room is a double suite. Room service available (it ain’t cheap) with a hotel restaurant on site as well. I usually stay with Marriott, but I’ve already been at the Residence in town and the reviews of the SpringHill and Courtyard had me moving on.
The front room of the suite was not quiet. Between the fountain in the atrium, the people walking past the door, the next over door slamming, the kids who don’t seem to understand «inside voices» and the hum of the in-​room refrigerator, it was not quiet. But once you close the door to the second room (and you will absolutely want to do this), it gets very quiet. As well, the door blocks the smell of the bacon that’s available for breakfast.
Ah, breakfast. I tried it once or twice and found the cooked-​to-​order omelet to be slow to prepare. Get there before 7:30 and you’ll only have to wait a few minutes. But check it at 8:30 and you’ll be waiting in line for 15 minutes. Bacon, sausage, home fries (rather underdone if you ask me) are all available. As well, an assortment of cereals, yogurts and a toaster with bread available. It’s nothing all to extraordinary, but it’s decent if you’re patient.
Plenty of free parking, but it’s not all exactly close. I only saw two or three handicapped spots reserved out front. Otherwise, it’s a short walk. If you’re doing business in downtown, it’s a very easy drive and my experience with the traffic was good. Around 10 minutes to the City Hall area, even at 8:00 AM.
In the evenings, there is a manager’s reception with free beer and wine. I’m not sure if the spirits are also free. Please tip your server.

I went to Birmingham for a work event and they put us up at this hotel. I was impressed by the hotel amenities. The workout room was decent, the conference space was awesome and the breakfast and cocktail hour that was held daily was great! I was really impressed with the build your own omelet station at breakfast.
As for the room. That’s why I deducted stars. The furniture seemed a little old and the bathroom shower fixture was basically falling off the wall. Otherwise it wasn’t bad. The bed was soft and I was able to sleep a pretty good nights sleep.
