The server was excellent. He made sure to check in on us and was very friendly. The food was cooked perfectly and the oysters were delicious!

This place is so great. I’ve only been twice, but both times have been a very pleasant experience. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is fun, and the service has always been so great. Every time I’ve made a reservation, they have been so accommodating. I’ve left voicemails for reservations and they’re always prompt in their response. Overall excellent place.

My new favorite spot! My boyfriend and I celebrated a special occasion here on Monday, February 15th. It was our first time at 5point and we both had a blast! The atmosphere is wonderful, romantic, rustic, with modern touches. We made it just in time for happy hour which is $ 6 cocktails, and a selection of small plates ranging from $ 3-$ 8. Clarence(I believe is his name) was our Server and was wonderful! Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested the fried cheese curds as an app and they were great. We both had a few drink each that were delicious. I had the Duck and Goat flatbread(Duck and goat cheese) and he had the Rabbit and Dumplings. Both were amazing. The menu has so many wonderful and different choices it was hard to pick one, but we will definitely be coming back to try more out!

My husband and I have been to Five Point Public House twice now with different people. Both times were great! I would venture to say that the 5 point burger is the best in Birmingham. I had it both times, and it might have been even better the second time around. From both trips the following have been eaten: 5 Point Burger, Chicharron Burger, Chicken and Biscuits, various oysters, Cheese Curds, and Chicarrons. The vibe and décor are both very welcoming. They have a really good happy hour as well.

The vibe of this place was energetic and the industrial chic décor was a perfect set-up for this place. Several dining tables including one or two communal style tables and of course several bar seats. I would suggest a reservation as this place tends to get fairly crowded. Lots of fun drink offerings and good wine & beer selections. We came here mostly for the oysters but sampled quite a few delicious things off the menu. Our waitress was on the odd side, but very attentive and friendly. We were there for over 4 hours. and she never once rushed us out :-| I was expecting the oyster menu to have loads of options, and from various locations. The night we dined, the menu included 6 different types all from Virginia. I was a bit disappointed in that, but all was fine. I like oysters of all kinds, so all was enjoyable regardless. I found their descriptions to be right on which I did appreciate. We also noshed on Pork Belly & Prosciutto oven bread(my fav of the bunch!), 5 Point Piggy Tails(eh, a bit fatty and greasy, but had good flavor), Daily Mac & Cheese(was buffalo mac & cheese and a table favorite!), Claws, Calamari & Banana Peppers(lacked in flavor, but perfectly fried), Brussels Sprout Pork Belly Hash, Farm Egg(outrageous! although anything with an egg wins!), Poutine(awful awful — so salty that we really couldn’t eat it) — in fact the waitress noted this was her favorite, we told her we hated it. she told a bizarre story about how some soy sauce fell into the poutine the day prior — it was weird. and remained on our bill. Husband enjoys noshing, but also needs a meal so he ordered the Pub Rub Beef Brisket — I never tried it, but he ate it all and said it was good! Cool vibe, good(and interesting) food and fair price point for what they are offering! Make a reservation and go check it out!

A couple bartenders were quite snooty, one was cool but spent too much time talking to his friends than providing good service for the rest of us. Luckily the beer and the oysters rocked. I grew up in a town that had an annual oyster festival yet have never been somewhere that gave me so many choices of which oysters to order from where.

Yup, think I have found my new go to restaurant. This is everything a cool, well run, gastropub type restaurant should be. Great atmosphere, good drinks, great service and just knockdown good food. Although coming from George Reis I would expect nothing less. He has hit this concept right on the nose and we are all the better for it. This restaurant is in the old space of Restaurant 26, which was Reis’ first foray into casual dining. I liked 26 which had a cool Miami type vibe and the food was always spot on. However, realizing that casual gastropubs were the way to go, he tore 26 apart and created a completely different vibe. With rugged reclaimed wood walls and tables, old beat up doors hanging from the rafters, you get the feel of a beat up old place at the beach maybe, but clearly a more upscale feeling. We started with some drinks at the bar. GREATBARSTAFF! Attentive, on the mark and willing to get you made what you want. We had a reservation and were seated promptly.(This is a change from 26 which was first come, first serve, and i like it!!!) For food, started with some hummus and friends got one of the flat bread pizzas. The hummus was great, served with little bread crisps and some veggies. Only complaint is wish there was some more hummus. Serving was pretty small. Really almost like a taste. We did ask for more veggies and were provided with more very promptly. The flatbread looked fresh and crispy and friends said it was spot on. On to the entrees. I had the steak and frites. Perfectly cooked and tender hangar steak with a great marinade. Melted in my mouth. Can’t say enough good about the fries. Thin, cooked to a perfect crisp with some garlic flavor and finished with a little Parmesan. OMG! Could not stop eating. Then they bring you homemade condiments including ketchup, mustard, mayo and a chow chow. Ketchup was awesome… maybe a little mayo added to it so almost like a thousand island dressing but with more tomato. The mustard is a grainy honey mustard… perfect. Wife and friend had the burger and could not stop raving about it. 2 patties, bacon, beautiful dripping cheese on brioche bun.(Aside…they forgot to hold the cheese for wife and as soon as they found out, they jumped on it, got a new one made, manager came over to make sure everything was done right, offered anyone who wanted a round of drinks and took it off the bill. This is way over necessary, but really showed they cared about pleasing their guests which is what good restaurants do.) Friends wife had the shrimp and grits and raved about it. Looked simply scrumptious. Bottom line, I will be back many times in the future. There is so much good on the menu I need to try, that I might be going every week for the next few months. George you have hit it out of the park. Ocean has always been one of my favs in town… never had a bad meal there… and now George brings us this spot on casual venture. Me and my taste buds are very happy!

We had been here before when this was 26, but I wanted to try the new format. I think the chefs are the same. We went during Winter Restaurant week and I got the oyster poboy and soup that was offered. I really liked the neat combination of slaw, tomatoes, pickles and carrots in the sandwich. House made chips were also done well. Of course the oysters were fresh and the breading was good. The soup that came with this meal was a beer cheese. They have a large selection of draft beers. Oysters, raw and cold, are a draw here. While I have eaten these in the past, I am not a connoisseur so I will leave that to better qualified reviewers. This is a pretty interesting space, decorated in a style reminiscent of an old oyster eatery or and English pub.

Wanna try a great new local spot for local craft beer and Eastern coast oysters? Then, look no further! 5 Points Oyster Bar has a great selection of oysters from Virginia to Massachusetts! The dessert menu is stellar, and I recommend Bailey’s Chocolate Chip Cheesecake! Whether you’re going for oyster specialties, creative burgers, or a fine local selection of craft beer … this place has what you need!

Omg!!! Ok so as you walk into this place a rush of comfort sets in. The lighting is just right the seating and tables were comforting and perfect. I love the décor as it has an old time feeling. I felt like it was western yet modern. What’s so great about this place is you can see the fire cooking station and the oyster area for shucking. That alone is impressive to me because who wouldn’t want to see how the cooks and oysters are being cooked or shucked. As we were seated we had the most friendliest waitress! She was happy and bubbly. If you come here ask for Alycia. She’s helpful and fun. While looking at the oyster menu I was shocked that the oysters were so affordable. I had to order each one to try. They were fresh and all the description of the oyster on the menu was correct. So I look at the main menu and noticed rabbit dumplings, and goat cheese, duck flat bread. I have never had rabbit before and was really curious as what it would taste like. To my surprise the rabbit dish was amazing. Although it tasted more like a rabbit gumbo then dumplings. There were small pieces of dumplings which was very settle as you eat a spoon full. I was not at all disappointed. This dish was filling. Also the flat bread goat cheese duck! Amazing as well. Our waitress recommended both dish and she stated that they made the duck there. The flatbread was a good size and filling as well. There were a lot of meat on the bread and you can taste the topping with every bit. I also ordered a dirty Martini. They did a great job! If only they had blue cheese olives lol that would’ve topped off my amazing dinner. Over all service is great, drinks great, food amazing, price was a 3 star with a 4 star dinning, facilities was clean. If you haven’t had a chance come and give this place a try! I’m pretty sure you would not be dissappointed. I left satisfied and happy :)

We were huge fans of 26 and sad to see it go, but after a few visits to Five Point, we’re sold! I’ve tried a few of the menu items, but I keep coming back to the burger. It is seasoned well and comes with an assortment of homemade condiments: ketchup(not your typical ketchup here-it’s the same kind they had with 26), mayo, mustard, relish, and hot sauce. They are all delicious and compliment the burger well and go great with the fries. The service is really great and attentive.

I very much enjoyed our first trip to the Oyster Bar. I loved the décor, it’s very in line with other new downtown restaurants. Lots of wood and exposed pipes with old timey lighting. Service was excellent– our waitress even noticed when my wife dropped her napkin on the ground and offered to bring her a replacement. We started with the fried calamari and crab claws and they were pretty good. A little fishy. I tried the pickle salad which was a mix of homemade pickles, carrots, onions, and peppercorns. Nice and salty, although it came with some crustinis that could’ve been a little softer. My wife got the Five Points Burger and I had the brisket sandwich with potato salad. The potato salad was great and the sandwich was good, although I couldn’t really taste the delicious sounding bacon jam. The pickled apples added a nice tartness. My wife’s burger tasted like a gourmet McDonald’s cheeseburger, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. She enjoyed it. Her side of fries was crispy and the homemade ketchup was delicious, although it was kind of like tomato bisque. I had two cocktails with my meal and they both were a little strong. The liquor overpowered the other flavors. Overall, the food wasn’t perfect but the atmosphere and service made it worth the price(and I’m overly picky sometimes…). I think with a little time this place could be a go-to Birmingham restaurant, but it’s not quite there yet.

Very hip, industrial ambience that plays nicely in the space. HUGE improvement from the stale, stuck in the 1990s, 26 décor. Service was a little lacking, but the place was very busy. Sat at the bar, ordered a beaker of wine(very fun and delicious, love that they have wine on tap… Also they offer ½ glasses of wine, love that, although I can’t imagine when I would want just ½ a glass, but a nice option nonetheless for those so inclined), and various dishes. Oysters were on point(it’s neat that you order by the oyster, so you can try a bunch of different ones), and the spicy crab fried rice cake was THEBOMB! Overall, a solid, enjoyable experience, if you don’t mind waiting a little for service/attention.

When a restaurant does something, and does it well, I can look past small things and give a deserving 5 star rating. This truly was an incredible dining experience and I look forward to many nights back here. After the renovation from the previous restaurant of 26, this is a much more relaxed and casual environment. They have a decent beer selection and apparently have wine on draft? If you get something bigger than a glass, the wine come in a beaker. This trip ended up being short on some of the beer selection listed. But good beer is good beer and you can always find something. But the main reason we came was for the oysters. I love the flavor and size of Louisiana oysters. But apparently so does everyone else because they were out of those too. But all was well because I looked forward to trying some others from around the country. The oysters were fantastic. Fresh, tasty, and different. Enter in my one complaint that takes away a mere quarter of a star. They have no saltines! You can call me low class if you want, but I like to think of it as more of a traditionalist. The crackers that came with them were tasty and I’m sure much more expensive. But there is something about the taste of an oyster on a good old saltine cracker that feels like a comfort food to me. But I had heard this before we went, so I was mentally prepared. Along with our two dozen oysters, we split some of the alligator tacos. They were HUGE. It was grilled alligator which I feel isn’t that typical. But it was fantastic. The slaw and corn tortilla helped make this taco top notch. Overall(even with the lack of peasant crackers) this was a five star trip to Five Points Public House. I can’t wait for my next trip back!

I visited for my first time during Bham Restaurant Week. I had the chicken that was in the special menu and the salad and fried cheesecake dessert. The chicken was tasty, the salad was good, and the fried cheesecake was delicious. I will go back again. The service was excellent. The major changes in décor from how the space previously looked did surprise me. It feels like a totally different space!

Love what they have done with the place. We went for lunch as a group of 5, and were promptly seated. We ordered the fried curds for appetizers and they were delicious! For lunch, I had fish and chips which were really good, however, I felt the fish could use a little more seasoning. Overall a great experience. Everyone liked their food, and I’d definitely go back.

I liked 26 as a less pricy option to its sister Ocean which is more expense account than regular rotation. However, it was super loud and packed, even when we went there for the happy hour food and beer specials. And that horrible bead curtain wall was my nemeses after a few drinks. Well, the newly(2 weeks?) opened Public House Oyster Bar was mostly a hit with us our first visit last Friday. I hope word gets out and it stays open as this place was DEAD at lunch(only one other table occupied) on a Friday but then again, it was 4th of July weekend. Four of us plus our 16 month old daughter went. She loved the chicharonnes which were nice crispy fried pig skins served with a «poblano queso.» We did not really taste the poblano but who does not love pig and cheese? Speaking of which, that is a recurring combo there as we also ordered the poutine small plate. Now, those Canadians may be a bit odd, but poutine is a national treasure in my opinion. Who does not love crispy fries, gravy and cheese? Well 5PPHOB kicks it up by adding tons of gravy and a sizable serving of pulled pork. Now, their curds are giant but overall I liked this very hearty dish. I could definitely eat this with some oysters, mussels and beers at Happy Hour. Another diner ordered a flight of the seven oysters offered and seemed to enjoy them. They are also reasonably priced b/w $ 1.25 to $ 1.75. We ordered two of her favorites, the alligator points which were very briny and delicious. The house made saltines are a great touch. For my main, I ordered the«Cheesy Breakfast Grill» as did another of our dining companions. It came out as sandwich which surprised me based on the menu description which did not make it immediately clear. I thought maybe it would be a brunch dish but that was my mistake I guess? I did bring this up to our awesome waiter and he agreed it could be a bit misleading so perhaps they will change the wording. It was still delicious with the farm egg, bacon, gouda grit cake, arugula, and tomato but there is a LOT going on with that sandwich. Wear a bib. Served with about a metric ton of crispy frites in a cool little brown bag/box. Sally ordered the Spicy Crab Salad Fried Rice cake which is like Jensei’s Kadoma Tuna roll but with a crab salad on the rice cake instead of tuna. Now, we knew it was«crab salad» but unfortunately it was not immediately distinguishable from surimi. For $ 13, we will stick with Jensei’s kadoma in the future. The other dining companion ordered the mussels frites and seemed to really enjoy them. Frites and mussel broth can be amazing. They did serve their house made ketchup(more like an aioli) but I prefer Heinz. They did offer it but the sandwich was so big I skipped it. Service was excellent and they were super interested in feedback. We will definitely be returning. We did not get to try any of the myriad of beers on tap but this will be a good alternative to the crowded bar at Fish Market for oysters and beers during Happy Hour.
