Lori has done a magnificent job curating the very finest, coolest and most sophisticated offerings in each category: creative gifts; sublime home décor accents; cutting edge beauty products; engaging and compelling fashion, art/photography, music and cook books; and an eclectic mix of clothing and accessories sought after by area It Girls. It is no wonder that when a celebrity visits metro Detroit, they can usually be spotted shopping incognito at Lori’s.

Be prepared for sensory overload when you enter this store. In the best possible way. As others have noted, Lori carries an amazing array of merchandise in a smallish but beautiful space. When I lived nearby, I principally relied on Lori for cosmeceuticals, and she introduced me to some amazing, obscure lines and products(such as Olé Henrickson). The sales staff here is über-competent and not at all pushy. Like other Unilocalers, I have never been steered to the most expensive products in the store but rather introduced to a selection of products that would accomplish my goals. What’s not to love about that? A favorite stop whenever we are in town.

The products are nice, but the candles and assorted lotions were completely unorganized making the place look sloppy. Not only this, but I browsed in the store for maybe 10 – 15 minutes and not a single person who worked there acknowledged me even though they saw me. Typical uppity Birmingham behavior? Perhaps.

Similar to Ruby’s Balm, this is a niche fragrance lovers dream! When I want a bottle of Keiko Mercheri(loukhoum is my fav) stat, this is the only place in Oakland County to go. Nice collection of Antica Farmastica as well. High end, luxury is the name of the game here… from perfume, candles, makeup, lingerie, even men’s skin care. It is nested in the strip of stores on old woodward, which includes Roma Sposa, one of Michigan’s swankiest bridal coture shops. I am like a kid in a candy shop here, but you better have a fat bank roll, as luxury is not cheap. Who am I kidding, if you are chillin in Birmingham, most likely you are a fancy lad. I think they even have Sage Macado EDP and oils… which I adore, but most people do not even know it exists… seriously pick yourself up pearl, onyx, ruby, sage, violet stat… all are stellar!

Lori Karbal has it all. part clothing boutique part beauty emporium. At times, I kind of feel like maybe there are too many parts to the pie. It’s a little overwhelming due to such a broad variety of merchandise they carry. The clothes(brands like splendid and cosabella) are simple, yet good quality. I’m instantly reminded of a vanity when I walk in. Cutesy lingerie, make-up, and potions and lotions galore. I would maybe move the perfumes and lotions currently near the door elsewhere in the store because it’s a little over-powering when you walk in and it may turn of the scent-sensitive crowd. The staff is ridiculously knowledgeable and easy to talk to. You forget that you are potential sale for them, but instead a visiting friend. The best kind of sales experience you can have.

Although a little on the expensive side this boutique is killer! It has make-up, facial and body products, candles, jewelry, lingerie, and unusual gifts and trinkets. Love the make-up which they do consultations for. Lori Karbal has products from all over the globe — some not found in any other Metro Detroit stores. Awesome staff that will find products that fit your budget. The staff won’t try to sell your the most expensive product, they are honest and know their merchandise.
