Martha’s Tailoring

The staff could not have been more helpful. The service was done when they said it would be completed. The end product was great. I had pants altered to make them longer, shorter, and remove extra baggage in the back and all 3 types of alterations were done amazingly. I highly recommend.

My mother and I took my wedding dress to Martha’s Tailoring to get it altered for my wedding. I needed it taken in some and wanted a lace jacket to be sewn into the dress and a bustle for after the ceremony. After getting into my dress, the owner priced her finger on one of the pins and got a small spot of blood on my dress. I wasn’t happy, but I understand things happen. However, with her hand still bleeding she continued to touch my dress, getting more blood on it. My mother then asked her to please put on a band-​aid before she continued touching the dress, to which she replied «I’ll get it out with my spit. Did you know that spit is how you get out blood?». This is my WEDDING dress she is talking about spitting on! I don’t care if that is how you get out blood, I do not want some lady’s spit all over the most expensive item of clothing I will mostly likely ever wear. She was so nonchalant about the whole incident. She still did not put on a band-​aid and continued messing with the dress. She was not able to pin the dress for alterations and kept complaining about how thick the material was. This kinda scared me so I asked her if she had experience working with dresses like this and she said she did, however I did not have a lot of faith in her skill. My mom was shocked and asked me if I really wanted to leave my dress here. Initially I did leave it, because I assumed anyone could take in a dress and I could always take it somewhere else for the remaining alterations. However after leaving and talking to my fiancé and my mother again, I decided against it. My mother went back and got the dress before any alterations were done. I just think for a special item like a wedding dress or any other special occasion, you would want someone to respect your purchase. I did not feel like she cared that much about my dress and I would never leave something with her to be altered, because if she would do that with me there, what does she do when customers aren’t around?

The staff at Martha’s are extremely kind and do excellent work. They also have a website, which tends to make them an exception in the Birmingham tailoring world, and it is very nice– prices are listed online along with their hours so you know exactly what to expect. I’ll definitely visit again.

They do good work at a reasonable price in my experience. I have had a men’s Billy Reid suit and Eidos jacket altered here. All the work was done before the estimated time. They are the only alterations shop in the area with a clear website that tells the pricing upfront which is a plus also.

I loved this place. They moved to 4227 Dolly Ridge Rd, Vestavia, AL 35 243. Which is less than a mile from the old location.
I asked for a simple alteration to be done on a bridesmaid dress and she finished it that day. Price was completely fair. Everyone that worked there was pleasant and nice to deal with. I don’t know why Martha’s hasn’t been reviewed yet but I highly suggest using her as your tailor.
