Nails Etc

Went with my daughter to get a manicure. There was a man and a woman doing the manicures. I got the man who used his thumb nail to take the excess nail polish off. I didn’t realize it at the time but his nail dug into my skin under the nails and now I have an infection on 8 nails. My fault that I didn’t stop him but had no idea the damage it would cause. On top of that, I didn’t think about the unsanitary process that was used. The woman used a brush with polish remover to work on my daughter. Relieved it didn’t happen to her. Nice people but will not go there again… ouch!

The customer service here is TERRIBLE. When I went to pay for my overpriced gel manicure and pedi I was «informed» that they only take their tips in cash. I never carry cash and always add the tip to the credit card charge. When I informed them that I didn’t have any cash and would have to put everything on my credit card, I got an EYE ROLL and then they began speaking in Vietnamese around me so I couldn’t understand what they were saying. This made me very uncomfortable. Needless to say, the tip ended up being zero. I will never go back to this place.

I have gone to this place off and on for years. My favorite tech was Jan who moved out to Macomb county. Since she left I have gone to Mai and recently Kathy. Love her little dog Romeo! Always look for him when I go. I’ve always had a good experience here.

I LOVE bringing my 9yr old daughter to Nails Etc. Birmingham! They do a mani/​pedi «polish change» for less than price of a movie ticket, and shower her with attention! I let her pick out her colors, and i sit in the waiting area. Off she goes with one of the technicians for her «big girl time». All of the staff are wonderful and the facility is clean and peaceful and we’ll run. It’s a special way to let her practice her independence and communication skills, and learn the importance of grooming. Bottom line, it’s a win win outing for Mommy and daughter!

I went to this nail salon about 3 weeks ago as a walk-​in on a Saturday around 5 pm. I signed in and was immediately serviced by Vanessa. I told her I wanted a gel fill-​in, full pedicure and shellac. She did the fill-​in and shellac first. She was very pleasant to talk with and she paid attention to detail, making sure to file and re-​file as she detected irregularities. I love how she polished my nails. She blinged out (added rhinestones all over) my ring fingers and she gave a marble effect on my pointer fingers. The final outcome was amazing! The pedicure was very relaxing and she marbled the nails on my big toes as well. Although appointments are not required, I just scheduled one with Vanessa for tomorrow. :-)
I have read some of the other reviews and haven’t seen one for Vanessa yet. It seems some people had problems with others there re: customer service or actual look of their nails. I can honestly say I loved my experience all around. I did not personally experience or witness anything negative.

I went to get a gel manicure so I could have nice nails for a long weekend out of town for a wedding — NOT what I got.
— nails are misshappen, some look fine but most are totally lopsided
— she cut my skin in several places and made me bleed
— the color needed at least three coats to look even probably, but she stopped at 2 so it’s streaky and uneven
— there is color on my skin and cuticles which I can’t fix since it’s shellac
For $ 31 I would expect a lot better. I’ll never be back.

Absolutely love it here. I refuse to get my nails done any where else. I also only go see Kaylee at station 10 she really does an amazing job and pays attention to detail!
I highly recommend anyone that is looking for a reasonably priced salon with a good atmosphere and great technicians!

They did a great job! I was eating lunch while getting my mani/​pedi and she was so helpful! Perfect during the workday!

I had a very nice experience at nails etc. I saw Brian and he was delightful. Had a really great conversation and I was amazed at how nice my nails looked I got a full set of acrylics and they were done perfectly. I love this place because it’s close to home and I will def go back to Brian. It’s a large place and it’s well staffed. I also like that they take walk ins.

Selina was a delight I walked in on a friday near her days end not only was she nice enough to stay late she also didn’t mind giving me a full set and a pedicure. I thought I would be only able to receive 1 service at that point but she was very nice and didn’t mind, now that’s customer service! I work at a local salon so I’m well aware. On top of that she did an amazing job head to toe … So great I took my mother back to her on Mother’s Day :) Thanks again Selina and I will see you soon!

The service here is terrible. We had an issue with a gift certificate and they would not help us out. I will never go here nor will I recommend to anyone. There are too many other good nail places.

Despite all of the bad reviews, I didn’t have any complaints about Nails Etc. I called during the day on a Friday to see if I could get a quick polish change that night (I only called because I wanted to make sure they could do it right at 7, which is when they close, but the earliest I could be there.) The lady over the phone was very nice, and put my name down right then for an appointment right at 7. When I arrived, the door was locked, and most of the lights were off, but I knocked on the door, and they opened it up right away for me. The lady did my nails very well, and it cost $ 10 for a polish change. She told me if I ever needed anything that I should come in, and she would take care of me. She took off my old polish, filed my nails, and then painted them, in a nice gold color. The only complaint I have is about their hours, I wish they were open later! Great place, and it seemed very clean.

This place is disgusting — it’s filthy and dingy. Thankfully I just needed a polish change so they weren’t using any tools on me — I would have been afraid of getting some sort of infection. The employees also leave a lot to be desired. Would NEVER go back and can’t believe this place is still in business, especially in Birmingham.

I have been going there practically since it opened it’s doors and have never had anything but a good experience.
I have come to know Tu, the owner, over the years and she is an awesome person! I’m not quite sure how she goes about hiring her Manicurists… but whomever does your mani or pedi will do a fabulous job! You may have your couple of favorites… but each manicurist is well qualified to do an exceptional job… Tu hires THE BEST!
If you happen to get a smudge on your newly polished toes or fingers, they fix you up even after you have left.
I am extremely particular about the way Polish is applied. When I have had to go to other places if I’m out if town or just can’t get to Nails Etc. on a particular day, which rarely happens, I don’t feel satisfied. Nails Etc. fully covers the nail and they look smooth and shiny!
The atmosphere is very pleasant and the shop is very clean and cozy. I have referred many people over the years!
I see here some people have felt rushed or had to wait. I don’t get the «rushed» part at all especially when it comes to payment. They may ask if you would pay before they apply to color to your nails. That’s so you don’t have to go digging in your purse before they’re fully dry and mess them up.
As far as waiting… I’ve only had to wait a few times in YEARS. Did you ever consider that if a salon is filled and that busy that many, MANY people go there because of it’s quality and great reputation?
Their prices are truly fair too. You get what you pay for, ya know?

I have to say I don’t understand any of the negative reviews. I found Nails Etc over a year ago and am so glad I did. Clean, pleasant space with the largest and most varied polish selection I’ve ever seen. My daughter and I absolutely love Kathy, Dave and Brian. They are perfectionists and will not let me leave unless THEY are satisfied my nails are perfect. I mess up a nail once in a while and tell them it’s my fault, no worries. Even if they have a new client in their chair they insist on fixing the smudge I made. I call that great service. Call ahead to see Cathy, she’s often very busy!

I will definitely say my nails look nice. Unfortunately I cannot say the customer service is nice. From the moment my friend I and walked through the door we rushed.
There was a particular gentleman that actually argued with my friend on what she wanted done to her nails! After arguing with her and she explained that she wasn’t sure what color she wanted yet he proceeded to roll his eyes and have a attitude with her. Mind you we were 20mins for our appointment.
We were followed around the store and badgered if we were ready to pay. I have never been badgered about paying before and it was very unsettling. Keep in mind we were waiting to even get our pedicures.
Long story short, we will not be back there unfortunately.

I went a few months ago and got a manicure. I didn’t have to wait at all and my service was efficient and well done. The nail technician wasn’t very warm and friendly, but I usually don’t like making small talk anyway.
My normal manicure lasted eight days, a small miracle! I don’t know if it was luck or the manicure itself that made it last so long. They usually only last a few days before starting to chip.
Their prices are on par with other nail salons in the area.

In the many years I have been getting gel nails put on, this is the worse place I’ve ever been to. I came here twice for fills because it was close, and both times the technicians were awkward, my nails looked horrible and didn’t stay on. Go elsewhere!

This nail salon is visually appealing. The décor is nice and there are pedicure chairs for days! However, the wait here is horrible! I happened to come on a Saturday afternoon during a children’s pamper party. Now, I consider myself to be a patient person. If you’re throwing a party, there will be some delays for regular customers, HOWEVER, when you know you’re hosting a special event, how much more so should you be prepared to accommodate someone else?
When I was finally taken to a chair, 10 seconds later I was asked to get up so they could accommodate another tot. I told them I was leaving, and they quickly changed their tune and completed my manicure.
I’m not sure if this place takes appointments, but if they do, I would highly recommend that you make one before waisting your Saturday afternoon here.

This salon is HORRIFIC. I have been to this salon twice. The first time I went to the salon I just got a basic manicure, nothing special. The second time I went in I had to get my acrylic/​gel nails removed. I got my nails done in Tokyo (known for their exceptional nail services) and the ladies at Nails Etc had no clue how to remove the acrylic/​gel on my nails. Honestly, I would have been better off using the foil method (google it if you aren’t familiar) on my own.
The nail technician did a terrifying job of soaking off the acrylic and filing away the remaining product on my nails. I was left with jagged edges, ridges and a sloppy manicure on top of my bumpy looking nails. I was truly embarrassed to leave the salon with the hack job I received. I went home and fixed my nails myself.
The technicians were rude and very rushed, which seemed odd considering the salon was not busy.
Another friend of mine had a similar experience and left with a fungal infection. maybe that is the «Etc» in the name.
I have been to numerous salons in the metro-​Detroit area, as well as a plethora of salons in the Tokyo metropolis. I am well-​versed in nail tech procedure and I would have to say this is probably the worst salon I have been to.
Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for your nail care needs.
