Worst nightlife experience in Birmingham, AL. First, it took me a while to get a drink when I was right front of the bartender(he was getting drinks for the people who came after me and behind me). When I went to get my second drink, I gave the bartender with the black hat my card to put it on tab. Moments later when I was ready to close my tab. I went to Troy the older bartender and he gave me the wrong card. Then, he told me that my tab was already closed and they gave me my card back and they do not have it. Then, he just disresepctuflly ignored me like it is nothing. I went to the bartender who I gave my card to and when I aske him about my card. He immediately says«Yeah, I closed your tab» and moves on. Both bartenders that I talked to said that Patrick with the white hat gave me my card back. So, I go to Patrick, and he says that he gave it to me. I have never ever seen or talked to Patrick.(I also heard that Patrick does not close tabs). Of course, they keep brushing me off and I know they are only doing their jobs but come on! It is Memorial Day weekend, banks are not open Sunday or Monday. Not only they lost my card and lying to me but they were also so disrespectful. Especially the old guy, Troy. The older bartender calls the bouncer to make me leave or something. Then, he tells the bouncer Jeremiah that I dropped my card somewhere and I was annoying them. I asked them to at least check all the Wells Fargo cards with a chip and ends with a specfic date but they did not want to. All they showed me is a piece of paper with my last name on it, but they would not show me my signuture. All tabs have to be closed with a signture. I asked if they lost my card to just tell me. I seriously needed my card(I still do). The bouncer then tells me that the only way to really check is when everyone leaves after operating hours. So when I asked if I could come after opearting hours, he says«No, you are not allowed here». I was literally begging for my card or an explaintation. I did not recieve my card or signed anything. Troy was very disrespectful. He told me that if I were smart I would be calling the bank by now. I was shocked at the level of unprofessionalism. Jeremiah was kinda nice at first but then he was trying to justify everything by saying how it is my fault and how I should have some extra money or card. I still do not get how it is my fault. I was stranded for more than two hours at the bar. Eventually, my friends came to get me since I couldn’t pay for a cab. I know that this is a bar/club and there a lot of drunk annoying people, but it is still a business. I couldn’t find any manager or someone to talk to other than the bartenders. Even though I could tell that all the bartenders were lying about giving me the card and signing it, and not welling to admit that they lost it(or gave it to somebody else). After I was«annoying» them, Patrick checked the Wells Fargo cards, and said it was not there. Patrick also was nice enough go outside and apologize. My advice is NOT to go to there at all or at least DONOTTRUSTTHEMWITHYOURCARD!!! Also, if you’re white then you will probably have a better expierence.

Horrible place !!! Don’t go here ever. The place was dirty and seems the staff needs a lesson on customer service

Lived next to this place for two years. Early morning spot for partying after everyone rolls out of their favorite watering hole. Very little matters at that point. Bartenders do their due diligence and provide quick service. Restroom is suprisingly clean all things considered. Fair deals and cover considering the mass of humanity catered to. Go here if your a college kid between 20 – 24 and still want to party after partying.

A friend of mine was physically assaulted and then kicked out because that’s their policy. Ruined my groups evening. We will not be returning.

Fun place … I think … It’s the after party bar apparently … The line to get in almost makes you say«no Thankyou» and head home … Don’t leave your card EVER! been calling for two days and not a soul to tell me whether it’s even there or not really annoying … I’ve worked in bars and clubs for a long time and there’s always someone there, cleaning, stocking, making orders or doing paper work on the closed days… Someone there to help the patrons that accidentally left their tabs open … Anyways rant over … My opinion of this place cool in the moment Update: they are closed Sunday and Monday so if you leave your card say bye to it for two days … However I gave them two more stars and wanted to say that when I finally did go in to get my card the bartender/manager during the day was so pleasant and polite giving my card back and there were no outrageous extra charges on my card either ;)

It’s late. You’re drunk. Call a cab or risk doing something you’ll regret.

This place is awesome after 2 am. Great DJ and crowded dance floor. Pool tables and an attractive crowd.

Amazing first experience! Will definitely go back. Their pork was so tender! Ask for Alex. I would eat here over Rosie’s Cantina.

I’ve always had fun at nana funks but I’ve never been there anywhere close to sober id imagine it would be a totally different experience. It seems like the place to go when it’s 3 am and your bot ready to go home yet. Good prices and fun a place.

Nana Funk’s isn’t the first place you go… or the second… or even third. In fact, it’s usually the last place anybody ends up on a Friday or Saturday night. They are open a lot later than the other bars in the area, otherwise I’m not sure anyone would go there at all. It’s kind of divided into three sections: the front being a bar with tables, chairs, etc. The middle has a dance floor with a DJ platform and the back has some pool tables. It’s loud, dark and sort of uninspired. Just your typical dance club. For a place called Nana FUNK’S, I thought maybe they’d play some funk music. But no, just rap. So you stumble over after last call at Innisfree and expect to just walk on into Nana Funk’s, right? Nope, you have to fill out a «temporary membership card». I was told the point of this once, but have forgotten. No other bar in town does this. It’s a real buzz kill. The only thing Nana Funk’s really has going for them is their late(or I suppose you could say early) hours.

When everything else closes for the evening, this is the place to lose what’s left of your mind.

If you need a place to go after 3 am, this suits your needs. Typical bass-blasting, drink spilling club.

I was raised in Birmingham, live in California, and I don’t think you could be more off about this place. Fremont must be a lot like Birmingham. Nana Funks earns one star for being the only bar on «the LakeView drag» that sells their drinks for a reasonable price. God forbid you should find yourself here after 2AM when all the riff raff from the other LakeView trash houses empty out. Smoking is allowed inside the bar which is great if you don’t mind smelling like your house burned down. The best part? Not only do they charge a cover(and for what? a shitty DJ?), you have to fill out a «membership» card at the door. Do yourself a favor and skip Nana Funk’s. Walk to Marty’s instead.

im from california, and i didnt think that there was ANYTHING to do in alabama. I thought there would only be churches and grass. I had a good time here. I got here at like 3am! which is pretty late, since most places in CA close at 2am. Good music, alot of people dancing, full bar. There was a variety of ages here from 21 – 50. I didnt have a problem with it, the more the merrier. Surprisingly diverse! i thought that i would be the only asian in there! o Great crowd. No ghetto people, no country ho-bums, or trailer trash or red necks. I know, im so ignorant! im sorry! Nana Funks proved me wrong and showed me that theres a great night life in Alabama.

Coming here made me feel so old. I just want to complain about all the things old people complain about; music way too loud, bartenders rude and drinks too pricey, full of UAB frat kiddos. Also, they make you fill out this bizarre form with your name, address, and phone number before you can get in. I said mine was 867‑5309.

Around the corner and down the street Nana Funk’s is a great place to stop for an afternoon cocktail and chill. If 80’s dance music is more your style then come to Nana’s Thursday — Saturday nights and it is a full on party! Super cool bartenders and the décor is perfection.
