I’m sorry that others have had trouble, because I am so very fond of these guys. In an age where a car dealership doesn’t want to deal with your problems, they do things like, e.g., Tameron Hyundai not even telling me that despite the diagnosis, all they would do was replace my car audio system — for $ 3800! At Rickwood, they still care about actually FIXING things. They took it apart, tested the hell out of it, found the problem, and fixed it for $ 450. They are quick and courteous and caring. And they haven’t been around for this long without doing something right! I hope others will benefit from their decency in business ethics as I have the couple of times I’ve brought audio problems to them. Way to go, guys!

I came in at 11am and was told it would be 35 to 40 minute wait. It’s now 2pm. I didn’t ask for anything crazy. Everyone seems to be more involved with socializing rather than working.

These guys are great! Pulled in without an appt and they quickly addressed my problem. Spent 30 minutes on car and would not take any money for diagnosing the problem (was not a radio issue but in fuse box). Very friendly and very helpful

I’ve had work done by Rickwood Radio twice and have not been terribly impressed.
The first time I went to have a Mazda iPod module installed to go with the factory stereo. They did a decent job installing it but left my hazard lights disconnected and left a part of my console unattached. I forgave them those two things because they did a decent job installing the part.
Later, my husband bought me an aftermarket stereo for the same car because I was unhappy with the factory stereo. He went to Rickwood to purchase the installation (the head unit itself came from Crutchfield). He said when he went to them to ask if they could do the installation they just stared at him like they had no idea what he was talking about. Finally, he ordered a wiring harness and paid for the installation and was told it would take about 2 hours.
I took my car in when they opened at 8:30 on a Friday morning. When I dropped the car off I told the person at the counter that they had disconnected my hazard lights, and I needed to make sure they fixed that. He noted it on the ticket. I called them at about noon to see if it was ready and was told they were still working on it, but it was coming together nicely. Then, I called again at 2:00, and they said they couldn’t get the amplifier to work. I asked them to please let me know how much longer it would take because I had to make arrangements to come get the car. At 4:15, they called to tell me they would have to get another wiring harness because the one they had was what caused the amplifier not to work. They said they’d have to use the new harness, the one they ordered, and the one that came with the head unit to make the stereo work. This didn’t sound right to us at all, but we agreed to come back the following week to have the job finished.
The following Tuesday, I dropped the car off at 8:30 again. When I called at noon, I was told they were in the middle of it right now, and they’d be finished «in a little while.» They called at 2:30 to tell me it was ready.
When I picked up the car, I asked about the wiring harness again and was told they had credited me the price of the original one they ordered. Evidently, the person who told me they needed three was wrong. I went out to the car to test everything before I left. The stereo worked fine, but as I was driving away I remembered to check the hazards and found they still had not fixed it.
I went back in and talked to the person who had installed the steroe, and he said, «Oh, yeah! It doesn’t come on right!» I said, «You were going to let me leave, knowing that you hadn’t fixed that?» I got a blank stare. They told me they’d order the switch, and it would be in «in a few days.»
So, to sum up, a company whose job it is to install car stereos ordered the wrong part, took two days to do a two hour job, and was satisfied when they were going to allow me to leave with part of my car not functioning, when it was a part they had broken. I would never recommend this company to anyone.
