This place had a pretty unique vibe. It was like a cross match of a bar but with a Latin twist. Couple of TVs but with Latin décor, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. You pretty much walk in, grab a menu, then order and pay up front. Once they hand you your number, you seat yourself. Your seating options are at the bar, inside table seating, the indoor patio, or the outdoor patio. I could see where parking could be an issue for the restaurant since there’s only parallel street parking available, but we got lucky. As far as the food, it was definitely average Mexican food. Nothing really stood out to me. I’m a sucker for fish tacos, and these tasted ordinary. What really made it for me though was the side of chipotle sauce that I ordered on the side. That $.75 was worth it! I slathered that saucy goodness on my tacos and on my black beans and rice. And if you’re like me, you’ll ask for a side of chips to eat with the black beans and rice. They do have a nice little selection of draft and bottled beer, but I sort of wished I had ordered one of their margaritas. They had a long list of tasty flavors! Next time, next time. Anyways, you can never go wrong with a Corona :) Rojo, I’ll be back!

A neat neat neat Mexican place nearish 5 points in b’ham. The food here isn’t any better then other Mexican restaurants in b’ham but the atmosphere is unique. Indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor is partially enclosed to protect you from the elements. Full bar and a kind of private area for parties. It is a really cool hangout spot with decent Mexican food.

Update– I’ve been to Rojo several times since my last review. In that time, I gave their American menu a try. Weirdly enough, I think I might prefer it more than their Mexican offerings, although I did like their Bandito Tacos. My current favorite is the Fuego Burger. The habanero purée it comes with is so spicy it makes me tear up sometimes, but it’s so worth it(thankfully it comes on the side). Because of this, I’ll be bumping up my review to 4 stars. Thanks, Rojo!

I’m upping my review. I have been coming here for the past 4 months since moving here and my options of Rojo have changed. The service of this place is one of the things that gives them 5 stars. Everyone here is super friendly, talkative, and is ALWAY helpful! I have had more things on the menu and my thoughts on the food have changed too. Kips queso is still the tits, it’s the best thing there, but we have tried other things. The philly quesadilla is yum and the nachos are pretty life changing. I will stick to my guns from my review before. The fish tacos are not good at all. Just don’t do it. This place is so close to my house so I come here all the time now. I know why so many people tell newbies to Bham to go to Rojo. I have seen the light! :)
