This is just the best place in Birmingham for unique gifts or something fun for yourself. Prices are varied, but reasonable. Melissa is great to chat with or to get advice for a neat gift. Finally, it’s great to be able to shop and know that every purchase actually helps someone! This is the best of shopping local, but supporting global anti-poverty programs.

Fantastic boutique featuring both local and fair trade handcrafted items. Wonderful for both everyday items like coffee or soaps, but also for a special gift or memento. The owner is fabulous and puts her heart into the store and its obvious.

Definitely the go-to shop for great gift giving in Birmingham… and no doubt you’ll end up with something for yourself, too. The shop was in downtown Birmingham before it was cool to do it, helping shape the community by bringing fair trade items to town. You can find such a great variety of things that you will love forever — at a fair price — and you are promoting fair trade, too. I cannot even begin to tell you how much of Sojourns is in my home(and often on my person — yep, great jewelry!). Do yourself a favor — become a regular. You will be glad you did.

Sojourns is a beautiful fair trade boutique located in the heart of Birmingham. If you are looking for a unique gift and want to feel good about buying it, go to Sojourns. Fair trade is designed to help native merchants get paid a fair wage for their work. It helps eliminate poverty and sexual slavery. With anything from art pieces(some of which you can wear) to toys to food items, Sojourns has it all. Drop in and see it for yourself. You won’t be sorry.

Sojourns has long been my go-to for interesting, unique gifts for friends and family. It makes me feel good that the money I spend helps someone out in the world live a little better and that I also am supporting a local small business.

Very unique and cool store… bottom line! This trade shop is comprised of art, handcrafted pottery, toys, clothes, jewelry etc from all around the world. All prices are fair considering each item was handmade. You will also find a lot of notes about the items posted throughout the store. This will include info about the region of the world the item is from and even insight into the lives of the individual people who have crafted some things. The store is packed with goodies but doesn’t feel cramped or hard to navigate. Includes restroom/dressing room(s) if you needed to try on any clothing. The staff is sooooo super friendly it’s ridiculous! Something that also helped solidify my first experience here is that it was Bham Art Crawl time and we were served delish jalapeño margaritas and there was even a Henna Artist in-house displaying her talents. All in all, very awesome place that you should check out if you’re wanting to explore something a tad different in the city. Right next door to Reed Books if you’re familiar!

This is the only fair trade small business in the city. Fair trade is where the native merchants of various third world countries are actually paid a fair wage for their work instead of slave labor wages so they can apply that money to hopefully help lift themselves out of poverty. The store has very diverse examples of art and jewelry and has the most loving dog you will ever meet! Yea Savannah!

An excellent free trade store in a growing downtown neighborhood. My source for coffee and chocolate. Trevor covers their stock well, and correctly.

Sojourns is a unique novelty in Birmingham, and it has carved out its own niche in the downtown area. The staff are friendly and enjoy explaining their products and the sources of their inventory, which is produced around the world in free-trade settings to support local communities. From bags to scarves, to handcrafted toys and puzzles, to kitchenware and décor, this place presents a huge variety of novel items that are ideal for gifting or adding some international flair to your home. There are also some eatables there – baking mixes and free-trade, organic chocolate, coffee, olive oil and tea can all be perused throughout the store. With handmade quality and international variety, Sojourns is a prime shop to check out on any downtown trip. Plus, it’s virtually next door to Reed Books, and an easy few blocks to What’s on Second? and Urban Standard. Just with those four places, a relaxing and exploratory Saturday may be spent in Birmingham.
