Worst salon experience of my life. My friend and I are in town visiting for a wedding. We’re staying at the Grand Bohemian, saw that the English Village location was nearby for blowouts before the wedding. Big mistake. We called the day before to confirm they had room for both of us, we wanted to sit together and chat. I gave them both names and confirmed multiple times we could be together. Wrong. I can’t remember my stylist’s name, because she never introduced herself. She didn’t make conversation at all in the elevator. Once I was in my seat for the blowout, I had to ask HER if they offered water or wine. She almost looked annoyed that I wanted a beverage. My friend and I both asked for loose wavy curls. My friend’s hair turned out beautifully(her stylist was Lauren! And she was even offered a beverage and a business card?!)… My hair looked terrible. I had literally done it better myself the night before for the rehearsal dinner. In total she probably spent 10 – 15 minutes styling my hair. Then she told me I had to get up because she had another client coming. I asked if I could stay up there to chat with my friend. Even though we got up there for the blowout portion at the same time, Lauren spent about 15 – 20 minutes longer styling my friend’s hair(same length, similar cuts) than my stylist did on mine. And in those 15 – 20 minutes, no new client came up(which is why I was told to move from my seat). Will never go back and will be sharing the information with all of my friends who still live in Mountain Brook. But that’s all, since now I have to redo my hair myself before the wedding. Worst $ 60 I’ve spent in my life.(Shouldn’t have tipped!)

Hands down, Carrie does the best facial! My skin always feels and looks so amazing afterwards. I can’t recommend her highly enough! Do yourself a favor and book an appointment today! You’ll start with a lovely foot soak and end with a delightful shoulder massage.

Buyers beware if you are purchasing gift cards. My husband bought me a gift card for my birthday on the promise of specific services that they didn’t «offer just yet, but we’re coming soon,» and months later they still have not arrived. When my stylist left and your services have not been offered after months, they do not refund the monies off of their lies of services offered, they simply just say you cam use it for products or other services that are coming in the near future. I tried for months to contact them for answers and never received a phone call or an email back, and today when I went in, I was told I would get a call back from the manager(I’m sure they will not call back like they always have not before.) Incredibly disappointed in their policies.

I just moved to Birmingham and had no idea where to go. I googled Aveda salons and found Tonya Jones. Erica is super nice and I absolutely love my cut. I received a complimentary hand massage that was amazing! Everyone was super nice. This is definitely my new salon!

It was time go grow up. I knew that, but darn it, my hair had grown out as long as it had been since I was a teenager. It was shiny. It was straight(ish). But — it was still baby fine, and I still blew it dry every day, so the ends were thin and it was damaged. It took time for me to find my prior stylist — I went to five different people over a period of two years before I found him. And then, due to unfortunate business decisions, he was gone. So, finally one day I called Tonya Jones — I remembered her(and another stylist who was there) from my prior salon and I hoped I could get in to see one of them. But my hair needed that cut today — before I lost my nerve — and neither Tonya nor Kevin were available. Throwing caution to the winds, I booked an appointment at the Cahaba Village location and went in to visit with Amy Busch. From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable and welcome. The Cahaba Village location felt busy, but still quiet, and I felt like there were three people who were doing nice things for me the moment I walked in. They brought me water, and a snack, and then Amy walked out. Her warm smile immediately put me at ease — I explained the situation and my concerns, and she spent some time looking at my hair before we went one step further. She laid out her plan, so I’d know what to expect and we headed over for the shampoo. I love the shampoo station — you don’t lie back flat, you actually sit upright. I expected to have water running down my back, but it just didn’t happen. Amy was great — she gently worked shampoo and conditioner through my hair, and the neck massage and hot towel treatment were heavenly. I was relaxed and happy — and not a bit apprehensive about the cutting to come. Amy was great — careful — but not slow. She cut and dried my hair and it looked GREAT! As she was cutting, she carefully feathered my blonde hair so that scissor marks didn’t show — her experience was evident as she put the finishing touches on. And — what a lovely thing — she talked with me about the products she used, and the function of each — and, when I asked, even how they worked — but I never felt pressured to buy anything. And the end of the appointment, EVERYONE was grinning — I felt great and I looked great, so my grin was widest of all. I thanked Amy profusely — and everyone else who had been so kind. Now — I’m accustomed to going to salon-spas where my tab for the services received can easily top $ 125. The massage, the hot towels — I realize that, while it’s billed as «free» — that just means it’s not itemized on the receipt. That made handing over $ 55 easy — and I left a hefty tip as well, because the whole experience, at a time when I was apprehensive, had been fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend Tonya Jones Salon Spa, and Amy Busch as well!

As a guy, sometimes I feel odd even going into a place that has the words«salon» or «spa» in the name; however, I have had a great experience each time getting my haircut here. It is easily accessible from Hwy. 280 and super convenient if you live in Cahaba Heights. This past week was my third time here. The staff at the reception desk was very pleasant and offered a beverage while I waited. I did wait longer than I had before but I wasn’t in a hurry so it wasn’t a problem. Across the board in life, I think all of us hope to be treated well and valued whether that be in a conversation with a friend, collaborating with a co-worker, etc. and I felt like the amount I paid for the haircut was reflected in the 50 min. or so of time I was given as a customer. I felt like the individual cutting my hair didn’t rush through to move on to the next person, but she took her time to give a quality haircut. We had a pleasant conversation but I wasn’t asked too many questions to where it was too much talking. I usually do a sub-par job when trimming my own beard. One wrong move and you might as well start over growing one for next winter. I asked if she would do a beard trim and it was definitely worth it. She did a great job. That was one highlight I wasn’t expecting before the appointment. A great experience overall and I would definitely go back.

I should have paid more attention to the reviews. Salon comes off as welcoming and friendly — «complimentary» neck massage. I use complimentary loosely as I’m not sure if I paid for it or not. I never saw an itemized bill. I just know that I was there for 1.5 hours and got all of a ten minute haircut(that’s being generous). Total came to $ 55 for what amounted to a ½″ trim and sloppy bang cutting. No layers(even though layers were discussed). Stylist hardly spoke at all during entire appointment and I walked out with extremely flat hair with a cowlick in bangs that also have a big chunk that wasn’t faded into the overall cut. She made me feel like I was taking up her time as she had another client in the color room, so I felt uncomfortable and rushed. When you get your hair cut, you should want to hit the town because you have hair that’s only possible after a day at the salon. I wanted to go straight home and wash my hair to try to regain some movement and style. Three weeks out and I’m still unhappy and can’t wait until I can get my hair cut again — at a different salon. I should note that I emailed the salon that afternoon to complain about my experience. On Monday I received a voice mail offering to make things up to me. I was so upset I didn’t know what I wanted to do(I did NOT want Tori touching my hair again and felt very disappointed with the whole Tonya Jones experience). Made the mistake of waiting two weeks to call the salon back — haven’t received any other calls. At this point I would have offered to pay a percentage of a re-do, but since I haven’t been contacted I now feel they don’t back up their services so I have no problem leaving this review.

Darn! I’ve used TJ a few times… my daughters wedding makeup, wash and blowout. A couple of weeks ago I made an appointment for makeup and blowout before a headshot. When I arrived I was told the girl that does makeup was out of town. What? They didn’t consider her scheduled vacation when I made an appointment? I had to scramble and get makeup done at Sephora, which work well, but it was a bit disconcerting. Fast forward to today… I had a massage and wash/blowout scheduled today at 12:00 noon. At 11:15 I received a voicemail informing me that the masseuse wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t make the appointment. Obviously I understand a sudden illness, but it is still frustrating. TJ Salon is great when they’re on… but my scheduling issues the last couple of times have been disappointing. :-/

Although I’ve received excellent service at Tonya Jones in the past, I will not return. On 08÷21÷12, I arrived on time for a 4:45 appointment. After waiting for 15 minutes, I was informed that my stylist was behind schedule and asked to return hours later or the following day. I’m a patient man. I would have had no problem waiting another half hour, but several hours is absurd. What could possibly necessitate such an egregious delay, and why wasn’t it apparent before I arrived? To add insult to injury, my legitimate complaint posted on the salon’s Facebook Wall was removed.
