This is my fave Mexican restaurant in town. I gave 4 stars only because of the Salsa. It’s runny and bland. But ask for some pico and dump it in they do charge a little extra. And you have some yummy spicy salsa. Other wise The food is amazing. Chips are fresh, even when busy I have never waited more than just a few minutes. My favorite dish is the combo fajitas, chicken, beef and shrimp. Onions, peppers and tomatoes! I love coming here.

To me this is like the only and BEST Mexican restaurant in Bismarck. They were the first real Mexican food in town… now we have others that are great as well… but this one is the BEST and every one is extremely friendly. The food is AWESOME and the best margaritas in town of all places I have been in. The have the best tequila selection in town as well…

Their food is always fresh, and delicious! I have not had one bad experience with either lunch or dinner here. The staff is always nice and welcoming, plus are quick to help in anyway. I would recommend La Carreta to anybody and everybody!

I wish I could give La Carreta a six star rating at least! Moving here from Utah, I didn’t think I would ever be able to taste good Mexican food again… and then a friend told me to try La Carreta! After eating here a few times, the workers had what I always order memorized! I don’t think their tamales are on the menu, but they do have them! And they are GOOD! If you want tasty authentic Mexican food, large portions, good drink choices, very friendly service, and the best chips and salsa… this is the place for you!

We enjoyed the pollo fundido and the fajitas! The shrimp in the mixed fajita were fresh. They put a generous amount of guacamole and sour cream with the salad. The service was very good.

Outstanding Authentic Mexican Food. Portions are large and the sauces they use are very good. Very attentive servers. If you like authentic Mexican food I would highly recommend La Carreta!

I’m giving this restaurant 3 stars based on the service staff alone. They were attentive and very polite. The chips were decent, but the salsa was definitely not made in house and tasted like store bought imitation. That being said the food is mediocre at best. I ordered enchiladas that came with no mole and strange day old looking Monterey Jack on top. The vegetables seemed like an afterthought and when I took a bite half of it was just stuffed with purely peppers instead of meat. Tough, chewy meat. Their steak was okay, but the fries lacked any seasoning at all to the point they weren’t touched after a few bites out of bland dislike. Would not eat here again if I’m traveling through.

I am shocked that they are not higher rated. Let’s start with the chips and salsa. The chips are made fresh and they were warm when served to me. GREAT chips. The salsa was very good. I had a burrito and also ordered a side of queso. The burrito was as near perfect as you can get… when when I poured some of the queso over it, it became perfect. One of the best burritos that I have ever had! Service was attentive and friendly. I sat at the bar so my server was right there… but I never wanted for anything. They even had Coke instead of Pepsi… which in my world is a plus.

Went here with a friend. The margaritas were really good, made with fresh lime juice. The fajitas were excellent, and the salad that came with them was really good, too. We ate out on the patio at about 8pm on a Friday night and were seated right away. It was a great night to sit outside. Our waitress was helpful and attentive. I was beginning to think that Bismarck didn’t have decent Mexican food until I came here… will definitely return.

Went in and sat down, the young man who served us was rather nice and attentive. The chips and salsa that were bright to the table were from the bag but warmed, the salsa had a little flavor. I ordered the fajitas which were ok, more onions and bell peppers than meat, the guacamole was watery with no flavor and thinking you can’t go bad with the lettuce they have on the plate, we it was!!. The flower tortillas were NOT homemade but maybe store bought, they got cold and hard fast. My mom has juevos rancheros which were only fried eggs with chile on top, her coffee was Luke warm. There was a real spider that was on the wall that joined us. NOT to happy about that cuz I am arachnophobic. The only thing I can say is that the rice and beans were good. That’s all! Guess I shouldn’t expect authentic Mexican Food up here in North Dakota, but I gave it a try just the same! Only 3 stars for effort!

I thought the food here was just fine, but nothing extraordinary. The chips and salsa were tasty. I appreciated the chips being warm and I liked the small kick from the salsa. I ordered the Supreme Enchiladas — one ground beef, one chicken, one bean and one cheese. The enchiladas were covered with lettuce, an off-center dollop of sour cream and one small slice of tomato. The red sauce was good, but it also was oddly placed on the platter, making it difficult to include some in each bite. It was just a little awkward to eat and the flavor was nothing special. Service was not great. My water was never refilled. They do have a HUGE menu, so perhaps my selection was not one of their best.

Easily the best Mexican restaurant in Bismarck, possibly in North Dakota! Everything is great from the salsa to the fried ice cream! The pollo fundido is my favorite dish, it’s delicious. The restaurant is small so maybe not the best for huge groups but there is hardly ever a wait, even on weekends. Awesome place.

We were pleasantly surprised with the food quality. The pork with verde sauce was great and so were the chips and salsa. The margarita was from a mix. My husband thought it was good considering it was not fresh. I thought it tasted like total garbage but I think that of every mix margarita so I ordered a tequila and soda. We sat at the bar and the bartender said he doesn’t drink when I asked for a tequila recommendation. Annoying but at least he was honest.

Chips and Salsa, marvelous. Our server Juan is top notch. He has a great sense of humor and is very knowledgable about the menu and the history of the restaurant. Will definitely go back when I am in Bismarck, ND.

Love, Love the Shrimp Cocktail. This is an example of the concept of this restaurant. Ordinary dishes made extraordinary. Warm tortilla chips, flavorful salsa just to start the meal. A must try in Bismarck.

They serve pretty good food here and they have good lunch specials. The chips came out first and they were warm and tasty. The salsa had a ketchup-like flavor and consistency I didn’t care for. I ordered my lunch special; which came with a chimichanga and sipped on my margarita while I waited. The food was pretty tasty. It was all just a little dry and could’ve used a lot more sauce(which I actually thought was the tastiest thing on the plate). Their billing method is very archaic. My waitress handed me a slip of paper that showed the math she had done on a calculator. I was not surprised to find I’d been charged an extra seven dollars and change for something I didn’t order. The waitress was very nice and I am not accusing anyone of deception; it was just busy and she is fashioning bills out of very crude implements.

Really good Mexican food. like top ten ever good. Who knew? the last time I had Mexican food away from California or Mexico was in Topeka KS. I think they got most things frozen from Canada! Great place and great service.

It’s almost perfect… Fresh chips and good salsa to start. Chorizo-queso dip is an interesting and delicious concoction. Beef enchilada was disappointing only because it was ground beef. Tamales is spot on. Refried beans needs MOORE Lard. Please start serving horchata… I need that in my life.

Everything you expect from a small mexican restaurant. Nothing over the top but just what you expect. Well cooked food, friendly service, clean restaurant. We got our food to go and didn’t have to wait long. The meat was seasoned well and the chips were hot. All in all we would visit this place again if in the area as they didn’t really do anything bad.

I came here for lunch today as it caught my attention as I passed by to get to somewhere else so I said why not give it a try. So to start with, the parking lot is a somewhat riddled with potholes so apologize to the shocks in your car if you park there. Luckily my pick up truck didn’t mind but just as an FYI. My first impression entering was that it was a small spot, but they have a ton of small booths. I sat at the bar and I liked their set up there. My waiter was very attentive the entire time, and it was during a business lunch rush. He even rescued a toddler that got separated from her family when they were walking to their table and started crying, it was very sweet for him to do because you could tell her was uncomfortable lifting her up and taking her to them. I did notice that they have their salsa pre-poured in the serving bowls ready to provide to people. I am not sure how I feel about that but it tasted fine and the chips were actually pretty fresh… several hours later and I am still feeling OK so I won’t complain. I opted for one of their lunch specials, the shrimp fajita plate with corn tortillas. It was a HUGE serving for $ 9.95, I lost count of all the shrimp that I had on my plate. I really liked that they broiled or torched the dish before they sent it out so the cheese got a litltle crispy and the veggies had a nice smoked flavor. The rice was not hard or crusty and I liked that they also included sour cream and guacamole. The corn tortillas were pretty run of the mill but still good. I have spent the past 4 years living in southern California, which is supposed to be some sort of mecca for Mexican food(and really it is hit or miss like anywhere else you go, they just mostly have good tacos). I don’t think that where you are located really dictates too much of how good the food can be that is what a good chef is there for. I was very happy with what I got for lunch and thought it was yummy, so I would recommend it.

I can’t believe this place is in Bismarck! It’s just 5 months old and should definitely stand the test of time, if they continue to provide this kind of quality — which is a very difficult thing for restaurants to do, as I’m sure you are aware. I am from Colorado and still looking for a great Mexican restaurant there, like this one. Great choices of tequila and the Chile Verde was so tender and flavorful. Excellent homemade tortilla chips with authentic salsa that has just the right zip.

I have traveled to Mexico several times and have taken Mexican cooking classes, so I am always looking for good Mexican food. I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant ! I ordered chilequiles, which were delicious! Everyone else at my table said their entrée was delicious. I would’ve given them 5 stars, but the beverages were not refilled very quickly. I will definitely go back when I am visiting Bismarck.
