Probably more like three stars, but I’m grumpy right now. MHC did some work for me years ago and they were just fine. Plenty friendly and they got the job done. Their rates are comparable. Recently, my AC stopped working. I called them and they came out the next day. The service guy told my wife that a coil had a leak and it could be replaced for $ 600 to $ 800. Okay, we can survive that. I called back today to see where we were at on getting the part and the exact price. The office told me no, that we needed a completely new AC unit installed and that replacing the coil was a bad idea. THAT would have been nice to know in the first place. Why wouldn’t a technician know that? Their knowledge was sound — the unit is older and yeah, you can replace the bad part, but if/when the rest of the unit goes, you’ll replace that part AGAIN. I get that, but it wasn’t well executed on their side. They were to call me back with an estimate to replace everything. In the meantime, I called another place. They confirmed the logic of replacing everything and understood my frustration. They gave me a quote and I’d call them back. Soon after that, MHC called me back with their quote — also for a Carrier system. It was over $ 100 more than the place I just talked to. As I pointed it out to them, she basically shrugged her shoulders and accepted that she lost a customer. She knew I wasn’t happy and found a better deal. Instead of trying to patch things up or make it better, she was content to lose a customer.

My furnace and AC were around seventeen years old and showing their age. I called around and got three quotes. Modern had the best price on the same equipment. Scheduling the change out was easy and communication was good. Their workers arrived early and were very professional. They were willing to answer any questions I had and seemed very knowledgable. The furnace runs so much quieter and looks good. So far I am really happy and and I feel like I got a quality product and install.

I had asked Modern Heating to provide a quote for a ventilation systems for a kiln room. Dave Olson stopped by our site and made it sound like he would be interested in the job and provide a quote within a week. Over a week passed and I did not hear from them. I followed up with a phone call which was never returned. Instead I got an email explaining that Dave has not been able to meet with an engineer to discuss our project because he’d been too busy with heating calls and that he’ll get something put together soon. After another week passed i followed up again and never got a response. So I can’t speak to their quality of work or price but the way I was treated is unacceptable. If you are too busy or you are not interested in the job, just say so then we could have hired someone else for the job and not lost nearly 3 more weeks without our kilns.

Had a fairly easy to diagnose problem with my furnace. The first company I contacted quoted me twice the amount that Modern charged. Their service was polite and on time. I will definitely use them again if needed.
