Great place, very relaxed, pet friendly and best of all there craft beers are the best.

Great experience, very good beer selection. Our waitress Sonja was nop notch, she really made the night. We live in the city and the small town local brewery feel was great. She was a pleasure to meet. our visit was about 3 weeks ago. will be back!

My absolute favorite brewery in this area! The brewmaster is awesome, so much knowledge. Allison’s Front Porch is my fave beer here. We also loved the sample of the NYE beer. It is definitely worth the trip to visit.

This is our favorite brewery in the Black Mt area. The beer is always cold and they always have a great variety of beers on tap. The owner John and his staff are friendly and personable. We love the fact we can get takeout from any of our favorite restaurants and sit at Lookout Brewery and enjoy the beer, food and very relaxed laid back atmosphere of this spot.

Small brewer, nice outdoor seating (inside too). Bartender ask a few questions and made a couple of suggestions for my flight. Great choices.

Great little brewery the shows you can be small and good. The bartender was super friendly and poured a great pint for every customer. Had 3 beers and while none were jaw dropping they were all good solid beers at a very fair price. Had a good local crowd going on throughout my stay. Would recommend checking out this small gem if on a brewery tour of Asheville and the surrounding area.

Awesome local brewery, nice people and good scene. Be sure to call before going to make sure they are open. They closed a hour early both nights we tried to go. I recommended putting the correct hours on the door and online. :)

A very friendly place with delicious beer. Got a tasting flight and enjoyed the majority of them even a sour which I’ve not been into very much. The winner to me by far though is an accidental beer they made called Experimental 78 not your typical ipa or ale but something a bit different. Only problem is they don’t know how they made it so it won’t be made again! Oh well… Wonderful staff, pleasant seating environment and in general just a very good time.

The person below is right when they say minimalistic and no frills, but that’s what I loved about it. It is the epitome of a mountain town brewery. The outside furniture is a bunch of mismatched lawn furniture. Everything is laid back and you can come as you are. The brews are delicious and the prices can’t be beat. Small, dog friendly, welcoming like a friend’s garage as Gail N. said. If this sounds good to you, check it out!

The staff is super nice, and the beer is pretty good (the bartender offered two suggestions based on a couple of questions, and she chose perfectly).
So glad that it’s so close to my place– it makes the move to small town NC so much easier.

This place is awesome, all around. From the service, to the prices, to the beer… it doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to a local brewery. The owner was there as well and I could tell how much passion he has for the beer he makes. Super cool place with killer brews. The 11.2% Saison is the best Saison I’ve ever had. The high alcohol content is not discernible in the flavor profile. Lookout is one of the best in Asheville!

This was my favorite brewery in all of Asheville area. Great little atmosphere if you like personal. But the 1% trust fund owners screwed their best brewers and now the beer is not so good. Lots of other places with better beer.

Minimalistic and no frills. The bartender, Melissa was very friendly though. Brown town ale was good and the dirty hippy had a pleasant spice to it. They don’t serve food, but have delivery menus available.

Awesome little brewery with some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met (both staff and patrons). It doesn’t look like much from outside but it’s a great place to hangout and enjoy a great beer or two. I greatly enjoyed their Black Mountain IPA (a red rye IPA) and their Cascadian IPA (a black IPA). You can even pay a dollar and dry hop your beer while you drink it.

Spent a Wednesday afternoon here a couple of weeks ago. Definitely a nano brewery, but they really pump some beer out; lots of choices but they change and rotate as they make new beers or tweak existing recipes. When I walked in there were big hoses running through to that big beautiful silver tank. Small bar/​tasting room with an outdoor patio to the left. Very friendly and helpful bartender from the Philly area originally. The owner/​brewer was sitting at the bar and was asking peoples opinions of the new font he had chosen for the brewery. He also talked a bit about going to beer festivals and his personal experiences bringing his own beers to the world beer cup. Pretty cool. Now onto my flight. Black Mountain IPA, Kickback Pale Ale (aka Dude), Sour Black Cherry Pale, Lookout Vans Front Porch Ale and Whiskey Wet Hopped Ale. All of them were very good. My personal favorites were the Front Porch and Sour Cherry. Did not care for the Whiskey Ale — but that’s a personal preference — I’m not into beer that tastes like whiskey or cask ale. For what it was though = pretty smooth. Only a few munchies available = popcorn, hummus and carrots. Really enjoyed my tasting and hanging out with the staff.

Seriously good nano-​brewery nestled in Black Mountain. I’ve slowly been making my way around all of the local breweries since moving here a few months back. We were dining in BM last night and ended up at Lookout Brewing for dessert ;-) I tried the Handpicked Honeysuckle Wheat (which was a seasonal offering) and the Hanky Panky Pale ale. Both were very good, some of the better beer that I’ve had in the AVL area. The Pale Ale had excellent body and the choice of hops created an awesome hop fragrance with an equally excellent taste. I will definitely be going back to this place. Fresh (Pizza) is just across the street so you can’t go wrong with this duo.
We were there at 8pm on a Friday night and the brewers were still going strong, putting beers into their fermenting buckets, it was great to see someone that loves their craft (no pun intended) and working hard to bring great beer to the masses!

Under some light construction at this brewery as of late. Tried the BQ beer and some others but nothing to write home about. Really nice staff and a great local brewery to hang out if you live in town.

A friend raved about this place and with us being beer nerds, my girl and I decided to make the short drive and try it out. I am completely glad we did; we will be making the short drive to Lookout more often.
A very small but comfortable, no frills taproom set in a small industrial strip center welcomed us as we walked in. So did a very friendly dog. And a very friendly bartender. We were immediately greeted at the table we chose with a bowl of fresh popcorn. It was obvious we had never been there before, so the bartender quickly suggested a flight that included all eight beers on the current board. We opted to split one, as the flight pours were generous. It didn’t take long before we knew that my friend was right, this place is a hidden gem.
The beers were all very well made. Even the two that were styles I generally don’t love were well crafted. I enjoyed the Dark Town Brown and the Topless Amber, and the Hoptometrist Double IPA was very, very good. My favorite, however, was Allison’s Front Porch Pale. We learned that the recipe belongs to the owner’s wife (Allison) and that there had been much backlash when they had tried to alter it a bit. I can see why, it was delicious as it was. We learned this info when the owner, John, stopped by to ask us how everything was going. Allison showed up shortly after to join in, and we had a very nice conversation with them.
Friendly people with a bunch of great beer recipes and a solid little joint in which to serve them… win. When you’re near Black Mountain, stop here and get a beer.

Yesterday I was taken on a tasting tour through the brewery district in Asheville. Today I was introduced to Lookout Brewing Co in Black Mountain about 15 miles east of Asheville.
Lookout is a nano-​brewery with an OUTSTANDING collection of craft brews on tap and a small town local atmosphere — a welcome relief from the tourist treatment.
Today’s menu lists Black Mountain IPA, Front Porch Pale Ale, Dark Town Brown (Ale), Hoptometrist (Double IPA), Lookout Stout and Topless Amber, but as of now there are about 18 varieties in rotation.
John is a friendly craftsman and will describe each of his small-​batch brews and answer any questions you might have while he pours. Talking with him, you can sense the passion and craft that he puts into his beers and you can taste the excellence in every brew. After sampling the fare (I recommend the flight — they are ALL worth a try), you can enjoy your selection in the shade and breeze outdoors, talk with John at the bar or play a board game at one of the homey tables with your companions.
And if you want to enjoy it somewhere else take more to go — anything from ½ pints to gallons are available to take on the road.
Yesterday I sampled something like 18 beers from three different breweries in Asheville, There were a couple of remarkable brews, and some that I didn’t care for.
What stands out about Lookout is that every beer is a fresh, classic, distinctively rich, and enjoyable craft brew. After the Asheville tour, I can say «been there» and instead enjoy remarkable beer and the local life in quiet little Black Mountain.
