Mehhhhhhhh. My boyfriend and I were staying in the motel next to this place and everything else in town was closed, so we walked here. First of all, they serve their chips with bean dip which I was straight up insulted by because I love salsa. Come to find out you get your own salsa(???) which would’ve been a nice thing to know but whatever. Our food was eh. Boyfriend got a huge burrito that was mediocre and I got a chicken dilla that was so greasy that the tortilla fell apart so I had to eat the inside part of it with a fork. On our way out, the hostess made eye contact with us, but then went back to watching a video on her phone without saying a word. Nice. Won’t be giving this place another shot.

Last time I was here it was great. This time we did take out and it was underwhelming. They forgot our order of guacamole the one reason why I wanted to order but we were charged and even got the chips. The tacos had no flavor to the meat and minimal lettuce and tomato. Sorry to say fellow Unilocalers that this was a let down. We even tipped the girl hoping she would get our order right.

My family loves to come to this restaurant when we are in Black Mountain and it screams«you should love us» because it is a hole in the wall with good service and an interesting menu, but I just don’t. I come here year after year with them always expecting very little and being rewarded with very little. However this time was different. We were greeted and later waited on by a girl who weighed about 90 lbs, but she was quick and juggling many duties that night(hosted, manager, waitress) and made for a much better night. My family was all very pleased with their food and I was again underwhelmed, but service was AMAZING.

Sometimes it can be hard to find good Mexican food but this place is definitely one to hit. The poblano burrito is really good. I love the salsa bar.

The service, food, and atmosphere are top of the line. I was there for Sunday lunch and was greeted right away by the host. The server was prompt and was knowledgeable about the menu. The food order tasted amazing but, that could have been because I was starving. Finally, at some Tex/Mex places in Birmingham the restaurant plays Top 40 music, but this place keeps it authentic. If I ever get back to Black Mountain, NC this will be my spot. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I hope they stay in business for many returns.

This used to be a good place to eat. The service is always good and the we were seated quickly as well. We’ve been eating here for 5 years now and this was by far the worst experience. We ordered the Burrito Verde, Chicken & cheese Quesadilla and 3 hard tacos. Surprisingly the food was bland. The bean dip and chips along with the salsa bar is always great. The chairs felt like they were close to falling apart and everyone else in our party had the same issue. The margaritas were the worst I’ve ever tasted, very watered down and no taste — even after we stirred the pitcher. We sent the margaritas back but it appears this place is dropping it’s standards in relation to the food and drink. We have eaten inside and outside and we do like it here. We hope this isn’t going to be the norm going forward — Shame because the prices are very reasonable.

Tried this cute little stream side Mexican joint in Black Mountain. We started with guacamole and cheese dip both were very good. The waitress gave us chips and bean dip that I loved. Self serve salsa bar had 9 different flavors. I got the Olé Special Dinner which included a chile relleno, chicken tamale and cheese enchilada. The chicken in the tamale was bone dry. The relleno was flavorful but way to much breaking for my liking. It doubled the size of the poblano pepper. The best thing was the cheese enchilada, I wished I ordered 3 of these. My wife got the Burrito Seco, it was just ok. Kinda bland till she dumped the queso dip on top which made it way better. The outdoor patio is stream side and delightful. However there is nothing extraordinary here. It’s a so-so 2 star Mexican fare. Nothing compels me to return anytime soon. Also a side note, literally 6 feet from my outdoor table up against the building and next to the cute little waterfall is a big red five gallon gas can and an empty beer bottle on the ground– wait what? SMH I just don’t get it.

I can only give it four stars because I have only eaten here once. There is a salsa bar with nine different sauces. We got seated promptly which was great since we were in a rush. Service was great and the food was awesome. There is a patio in the back that is just above the creek which would be great on cooler days. If I lived closer, I would come here more often.

We really enjoyed having lunch by the mountain stream. The food was good. The chips were fresh. The bean dip with the chips was very tasty. I enjoyed the different salsas at the salsa bar. The waitress, Mrs. Olé’ herself! was very nice and attentive. It was a wonderful experience.

Don’t let the kitschy name fool you, its what you expect from Mexican food in the US, but its done several notches better than average. A great salsa bar and the perfect creek-side patio to enjoy a Margerita make this a keeper. Uninspired service kept it from 5 stars, in my book.

We got to know Olé and his family back when they were in a smaller building around the corner(about 5 years ago), and we’ve been loyal customers ever since! At that time, he told us about his food prep is always fresh; he never uses canned or frozen food. He marinates the different meats overnight, which makes them rich with flavor. One thing my partner loves is the rice; it’s always fresh(not overcooked from sitting under a heat lamp for hours) and doesn’t have any«weird» stuff in it(bits of seasoning or Pico) and is very mild but still very flavorful. I always, always order the enchiladas blancas with chicken. My mother ordered the chile relleno dish and really loved it. My partner orders the Montezuma’s burrito with queso sauce instead of the rancheros. They have a great beer selection on tap, with local breweries like Highland, Green Man, Pisgah, and more, plus the typical bar beers, and lots of wine and mixed drinks too. The staff are always very nice, and prompt even when they have long wait times(which is often!). Their prices are great, too. This place has it all, and we have deemed it our favorite Mexican restaurant of all time! We don’t live in town(we live in the Triad area near Greensboro) but we make it up to Black Mountain several times a year, and when we do, we visit Olé’s at least twice while we are in town! Oh, I almost forgot another amazing feature. They have this really great salsa bar with 9 or more different types of salsa, ranging from mild to hot, with a wide variety of ingredients(some are jalapeño based, others have cilantro, others use hotter chiles). It’s really unique and definitely worth trying out! The seating is great no matter where you get a table. The bar is nice, four tv’s and has sports on. The family dining area is also nice. The patio out back is amazing and is getting upgrades all the time. This little place has made it through the test of time. So many restaurants come and go in Black Mountain, but Olé’s has stayed in business, which speaks to the quality that you’ll find there. They are doing catering now too, Mrs. Olé is the coordinator for that. You can rent out the dining area complete with linens and thoughtfully arranged food platters. We are having our wedding rehearsal dinner with them!

What a great place to eat. Food is almost always fresh and flavors are great. They have some of the best sweet tea and for a southerner that’s very important. I only sing them one star because some times the services Is a bit slow and some of the waitstaffs English is a bit lacking. Stop in and try any one of the enchiladas.

Service is great. Awesome and attentive waitstaff. Food is bland. I had the fajitas and they had no flavor, the saving grace was the authentic flour tortillas. My wife had a chimichanga and noted the same issue. Beer and alcoholic beverages were cheap and if I’d had several before I ate the food I may not have noticed the bland taste. Will not be back.

Awesome Tacos! Seasoned Pork with cilantro, and the Baja fish tacos were excellent. However, the group of servers assembled at the door laughing and complaining about working was ridiculous. Over all I would return.

Good food — Outstanding outdoor seating. I’m going to rate their food on the good side. Our waiter brought out 6 of seven salsas with our chips. Chicken Quesadilla was good. The outdoor seating beside a mountain stream put them up a star for me. We were there at lunch on a nice fall day. Where else can you get good Mexican next to a stream?

Good place to satisfy the Mexican food craving. They have a small salsa bar with over 5 salsas to choose from. My favorite salsa is the oily one with red chili flakes. It has a hint of heat with a nice garlic flavor. I have had a few items off the menu and chilaquiles con huevo is my favorite. It has tortilla chips covered in sauce and cheese and topped with an egg. I eat mine with corn tortillas. The tortillas are nice and flavorful. Service has usually been nice.

Just moving to the area and my fiancé and I thought we would start trying local restaurants. We sat outside which I would definitely recommend. It was a bit chilly for us but a warmer day would be great. When we got there we were given some great warm chips and bean dip. Then I went to get salsa from the salsa bar. We ordered a thing of Queso dip and we weren’t very pleased with it. Tasted plain and like it was poured straight from a can. I ordered tacos and rice which were great. Tasted very fresh and great price. My fiancé ordered a taco salad and found it to not be very good. It was a large taco bowl with iceberg lettuce, chicken, and sour cream. So noting very tasty. My recommendation is go and see for yourself just don’t order the taco salad.

Pro’s: Friendly staff, different things on the menu than the usual. Good location. Con’s: probably the worst margarita I’ve had. Weak no taste and even the salt around the rim was like table salt only halfway sticking to it. The salsas and sauces weren’t great. I don’t expect to go back.
