I went here with my girlfriend, and she got the chicken curry and I got the chicken pad Thai. We got egg rolls for 6 $ as an appetizer. It came with three fine egg rolls. Not exceptional. Both of our dishes were overpriced and pretty bland. When I compare it with doc Chey’s in downtown Asheville, it is extremely inferior. It is okay food for unreasonable prices to me.

Hands down the best Thai food I have had in the Asheville area. We moved from Charlotte a few months ago and have been very disappointed that Asheville’s Thai food hasn’t come close to meeting our hopes. Enter Thai basil. It’s probably a good thing that black mountain is half an hour from our house, or I would be here at least once a week. Staff is very friendly, but don’t go here if you’re in a huge hurry. Love that thy finish dinner with a small cup of tea. You have to try this place!

Thai Basil is far from where I live, so I have only eaten it three times. Everything I have had has been excellent. Taste wise, it is up there with the best Thai restaurants I have had. The décor is above average. Their bathroom is really cool. I wish they decorated the restaurant like they did the bathroom(sounds funny, huh?). Go check out that bathroom and you’ll agree. Outside seating is nicely decorated and has good ambiance. Prices are about average for Thai. There’s not a lot of parking, but so far I haven’t had any trouble getting a space. That waitstaff are pretty attentive, but not real talkative. I wish this place was closer to me. Recommended!

So far this has been the best Thai place we have found in WNC. I started out with the curry puffs which were really good. I haven’t tried anything like that before and it was a nice change. I also ordered the pear sake which, was great as well. I typically will get a plum wine or something if a Thai restaurant has it, but this was the closest thing on the menu! For my main course, I got the Chicken Pad Thai(which is pretty much all I ever order at Thai restaurants). They have a simple spice scale of low/med/high, so I ordered it at a medium and requested the spice tray. This is one of the better pad thai’s I have had in North Carolina. It’s definitely the best I have had in WNC. We will definitely be back!

Great service, food was tasty! Didn’t care for the sauces that came with the fresh spring rolls but loved the Thai salad and curry puffs. Finished it off with the sweet sticky rice and fried bananas. Would def come back again!

My FAVORITE Thai food. The best I’ve had in the area. Fresh, yummy, fragrant, healthy! I like the ambiance and the waiters are nice too. The Tom Kha soup is a must try.

Everything was very tasty ! Curry puffs were very good, wish ordered 2. Seafood lemongrass soup and pork pad Thai, also weren’t disappointing. Thai chef was coming around the dinning room, which I thought was very nice and the atmosphere was very chill. Beautiful NC mountains all around as a bonus:) glad we stopped by!

Stopped in on a whim for lunch and we were glad we did. We started with a few appetizers, pork wontons and spring rolls, both were good. Four wontons and three spring rolls per order. I had the spicy catfish. It was as good as almost any Thai dish I’ve had, complex flavors and just the right amount of spice. One of my friends had the soft shell crab special and thought it was excellent. My wife had the Pad Thai as usually and it met her taste test. All in all, if you like Thai food, I don’t think you will be disappointed. I would return and try the tom yum ad other dishes to see if it would hold up as well. There is a very nice outdoor patio, however the traffic noise can be a distraction. Our server was excellent and took care of small details. The only service problem was my wife’s Pad Thai came out at least five minutes after the rest of us had been served.

Not even pseudo Thai… I suspect all the great reviews come from folks who only ‘think’ they’re eating Thai food. I agree about the outdoor seating — we were incredibly unfortunate to have a refrigerated 18-wheeler parked in front for a delivery, which was there for the duration of our eating there, and between its engine being left on, cars trucks and even sirens made for a terrible experience. We couldn’t hear each other much less think. HOWEVER, my rating has absolutely nothing to do with the outdoor noise… First it was the pseudo Satay. Two huge pieces of flattened chicken, and the absolute most pathetic rendering of peanut sauce. Soupy, mostly coconut milk — buying the jarred kind in a store would’ve been a huge improvement. There was no way you could get any of the sauce to stick to the chicken, not was that watered down. Coconut & a little Skippy chunky peanut butter, with hardly any spice. Yuk. No typical Thai spices at the table other than the sweet grunge that comes in any Chinese food establishments, and dried chili, that’s it. I ordered one of the most basic Thai meals that hasn’t made it to American menus since maybe the last decade or so. It’s a common dish in Thailand — Pa Se Ewe — but it was the worst I’d ever had, and a far cry from what it’s supposed to be. My friend ordered stir fried tofu; it was so bland we thought we were eating a basic plate of white rice with a few steamed veggies. Double yuk. Yes, Van is a really decent and friendly man, but his food needs a serious makeover, IMHO. Never going back, it’s just not worth it to us when there’s better Thai in Asheville.

A Thai restaurant in Black Mountain??? Yes, and their food is really good. Clean, yummy. And some of the best calamari I have ever had.

The owners are super nice and attentive to their customers. My husband, children, and I have acquainted ourselves with them just by being regulars. The food is yummy too! My husband has taken a liking to their soft-shelled crab and my favorite is the tofu pad Thai. We always order Thai iced tea and one of the same choices as a treat to ourselves. Try the outdoor seating! We love the center fountain.

Spicy fried rice with chicken was awesome, sweet tea is not«southern» but still pretty darn good. Was with a large party, outdoor seating, all praises from the rest of the group.

The food is good. I enjoyed the food, that’s why I tried to eat there, repeatedly and was recently shocked to find that when I arrived half an hour before closing(ready to order) I saw someone run up to the ‘Open’ sign and turn it around! I had just driven half an hour to get there. This place closes early and even does it right as customers drive up, so as not to have to inconveniently deal with feeding people a single minute after they ‘close.’ On other occasions, I called ahead to find them closed when I got there, but the most recent visit, where they ran to turn the sign made me feel unwelcome. I will not EVER go there again. A big part of eating somewhere is feeling welcome. The funny thing is, I left my vehicle in their lot and walked up the street to another restaurant happily serving customers, and after eating and coming back nearly an hour later, the whole Thai Basil staff was on the porch potting up flowers and hanging out casually. They had PLENTYOFTIME to serve me, and were still there after I ate somewhere else and came back. I cannot help but think, they don’t care about serving people or having customers. They have certainly lost my business forever at this point and I want to warn people so they don’t waste time going there like I did.

First of all the service was great. They waited on us very attentively and were very accommodating with any questions or request we had. The lemongrass unsweetened tea was refreshing and clean tasting. The inside of the restaurant is so much nicer looking than the outside. I had the Pad Thai. It was very flavorful and they gave a large portion. I could have used more spice but overall it was good.

One of the best restaurants in Black Mountain, and definitely the best Thai food I’ve had in the short while I’ve lived in the South.

This was okay but not great. The Satay appetizer was excellent, but the curry was weak tasting. The pad thai was very good. The service was very good. They gave us free Lemongrass tea, which was good, because it was FREEZING in there(late December).

They took us in right before closing and were still friendly. They gave us adequate time to order and the food was brought out in a timely manner. My dish was delicious and most of the party I was with enjoyed their dish. The mango desert and sweet sticky rice was also very tasty. The good was also worth the money.

I love Thai food. I’ve eaten it at several restaurants in Asheville so I decided to try Thai Basil when I was in Black Mountain today at lunchtime. Mistake. Food was bland and overcooked. Service was terrible! They had one guy running the entire front-of-house, inside and outside, and dude was SO unfriendly. We got the distinct impression that we were more an annoyance than welcome guests. If the food had been good, we could’ve overlooked the rude service, but it wasn’t. The noodles in the Pad See Ew were so overcooked I couldn’t even use the chopsticks. They just fell apart like mush. The Pad Thai had entirely none of the classic sweet, sour, spicy balance. It was just sweet, sweet, sweet. The proteins were overcooked and all of the dishes lacked any spice, whatsoever. If you’re in Black Mountain and are craving Thai food, do yourself a favor and drive 15 minutes to Asheville and eat at Thai Orchid or Doc Chey’s.
