Go for the fried pork chops on Saturday. Awesome home-cooked meal. In the back you’ll find the last townie bar in Blacksburg.

Surprisingly good food from a cool little joint. Portions are friendly, and I’ve tried several different entrees and have loved each one.

I had a pretty good lunch here. It doesn’t look like much from the outside(or inside for that matter). It seems to me that it caters more to the bar crowd, but I can’t be sure since I’ve only been there in the afternoon. I got the meatball sub(the day’s special) and it was good for a meatball sub. I can’t speak to any of the other food, but it looked like they have a decent following and the service was great. I might be back sometime to try some of the other menu items.

After reading the reviews here on Unilocal,I decided to give it a go. I drove over with my flatmate, and we had dinner on a Saturday night around 7:30pm. The best part of the experience by far was the waitress. She was super attentive and very helpful. However, we were two out of three people eating in the restaurant overall. We ordered the special for the evening, which was fried pork chops. It comes with a good amount of meat, canned green beans on the side, and mashed potatoes and gravy. I subbed the mashed potatoes for their ‘Boardwalk Style’ french fries, which I think were the best part of the meal. The gravy was kind of gross, but I’m not a big fan of gravy anyway. The green beans were not to my liking, but if you are a fan of canned green beans then these would’ve suited you just fine. The deep fried pork chop was pretty good, but all in all the food was just bar food. The atmosphere wasn’t great, and the restaurant itself is out of the way. To me, Abby’s just isn’t worth the trip. If you’re going into town, you may as well pick a nicer/better spot. The price will be the same if you’re looking for the sandwiches/bar food that Abby’s offers. However, if you’re looking for a quiet and out of the way spot to grab a beer and ponder George Thorogood lyrics, this is the place to be. Definitely a dive with a friendly, older waitress.

This place was a nice small town all-American kind of restaurant. Cheap price, but really it was cheap food too. Both my boyfriend and I got the roast beef sandwich. The gravy was a little weird and the meat was mediocre. The mashed potatoes were pretty good though. The service was ridiculously fast which was nice and the waitress was friendly. All in all a nice local place but not really restaurant quality food. Oh, and the parking was very minimal, be wary.

Definitely a nice little spot. I’m really grateful to our friend for pointing out that the place with a dog sign is actually a nice little restaurant/pub. It almost felt as though we were back in Buffalo at a nice little dive; inexpensive prices with decent food and just a friendly hometown atmosphere. This is the kind of place the locals go to.

Nice hidden local spot. Good beer selection, decent burgers and fries. I was glad to have the opportunity to escape from the relentless Bro-culture that pervades downtown Blacksburg. Hmm… I may reconsider this rating and take down my review, just so the undergrads don’t ruin this treasure! Conundrum.

We chose Abby’s for a quick dinner after arriving in Blacksburg based on the positive reviews here. I have to say though, I was a little disappointed that they were out of the special of the day, since that seems to be the thing to get. There is nothing fancy about Abbys, it’s very stark inside, but the food is solid and the prices are good. They have a full bar which is a bonus too. I went with the Cobb salad and the chicken was hot and freshly grilled, the dressing is homemade and tasty. DH had the BBQ sandwich which he said was good but nothing special. DD had a club sandwich which as also good but nothing special. The service was great and very friendly as others have commented on.

Happy Hour = $ 1.25 beer.$ 3 doubles liquor Monday — catfish Po Boy = win Tuesday — meatball sub = win Thurdsday — Meatloaf = epic mealtime Friday — Openfaced Roast Beef = win Saturday — Pork Chops = win Sunday — Fried Chicken = win You really can’t go wrong with any of the food here. It’s homey and comfort food at a very affordable price.$ 12 will give you more than you can eat and let you leave a very deserving $ 3 minimum(emphasis on minimum because their staff deserves more) for their friendly servers and bartenders. The specials are the secret gems of Blacksburg. If you haven’t discovered this hole in the wall located across the street from citgo gas and the YMCA on north main St and progress, you are seriously missing out. FYI my price range is including a minimum of 25%-30% because that is standard tipping percentage these days.

Best kept secret in Blacksburg? Yea, that’s probably true. Great local place with fresh food. If you want exotic this isn’t your place, but If you want to be comfortable and enjoy a relaxing meal in a friendly environment, this is the place. And don’t be shocked when the servers call you«hon».

Great homestyle cooking. Cheap. Relaxed. Best meatloaf throughout the universe(but only on Thursdays). This place has not been discovered by college students either, or maybe its just that they’ll card you at the bar. Either way, Abby’s is a prime lunch stop for non-student locals!

Best kept secret in Blacksburg. I know you’ve driven up Main Street and passed by the ordinary-looking building with the«dog sign» in the front. I did for three years before we ventured in – and once we did, we kept going back. This place is as simple as you can get. Generally we would go for ANY of the specials they have to offer(a different one for each day of the week), but we got a little crazy with the menu sometimes, as well. Go in, get yourself a large sweet tea or a PBR and enjoy some comfort food. Your friends may look at you strange for stopping in here, but that’s only because they’re ignorant. In this case, ignorance is not bliss. But eating a special at Abby’s just might be…
