The burgers here are really great but have to get a handle on customer service… we waited 45 minutes for food and they only had 2 servers. This has happened the last two visits and Mike’s is losing its charm as a designation place.

The burgers are always a good choice and the pizza is awesome! The throw-back 1970’s atmosphere is pretty cool too. Great choice for dinner in downtown Blacksburg.

I had a burger here one time and it reminded me of the same kind of meat they use at Taco Bell. Also they played the most depressing music in the world which didn’t make things any better. Long story short, if u had a bad day, then Mike’s is the place for u

Great burgers, fries and rings. Very friendly waitress who took care of us on two separate occasions and remembered my wife, son and I. This was noteworthy because we are from Boston and had been there on two occasions, six months apart. A must stop in Blacksburg.

Stopped in to get my son something to eat. He had the famous cheeseburger, which tasted Ok and the onion rings which were also Ok. I had the ham and cheese sandwich which was really good. The tables were a bit sticky and the waitress was extremely friendly. The place was a good fit to be walking distance from Virginia Tech. Overall, would not be my first choice unless I was in the mood for a Ham and Cheese sandwich.

Nothing spectacular but fair prices for the food. The environment is a bit outdated, it could use a renovation. The menu is not expansive but consists of consistently well-made, simple food. I also found it a bit odd that I was charged extra for ranch dressing, and garlic powder. I would say my favorite selection is probably the standard cheeseburger.

Like other reviewers have said, this place is quite average. I ordered a cheeseburger, and it was OK, but not the best burger I’ve had. My wife ordered the calzone, and it was OK, but not the best calzone she’s had. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to rave about either. However, the wait staff was great – very nice and attentive.

Ate here once and absolutely hated the hype on the burgers. Not quite sure on why this place has the«best burger» in Blacksburg but I highly disagree. The décor was very outdated and greasy, and I felt almost dirty being inside. The burger fell apart as I ate it and made me feel like I swallowed a brick. Not a fan at ALL!

Mike’s has been around forever, and with good reason. The food is great every time, and portions plentiful enough for leftovers, which is what I want from a calzone. On odd occasion, I’ll have a burger and they’re fabulous, too.

Came here for the burgers. Burger eaters in the party pleased we did because the food and prices were«so good». Pizza tastes store bought. Very tiny(one) vegetarian sandwich choice. This came as a surprise because it’s a smack next to the Tech campus. Overall, as most every other reviewer notes, come here for the burgers. Expect it will take a while to get served. Even paying is slow.

Burgers were good. They serve them upside down which is interesting. Other than that unremarkable.

3.5 stars. We have been coming to Mike’s Grill for years, and little has changed since we were in school 20+ years ago, including their low prices. The food is consistently good, but I agree with others that the interior could use a little refreshening. Their burgers and subs are good, but their calzones are our favorites. We love the crispy outside and flavorful dough. And did I mention they are huge as well, and generously filled with toppings? If you like t-shirts like my hubby does, you have to pick up one of Mike’s shirts. They are just $ 10, don’t shrink(50⁄50 cotton/poly), and hold up well to multiple washes. He loves their shirts! If you are in the mood for a casual burger or calzone, I recommend Mike’s Grill!

Mike’s isn’t a chain. It’s hometown goodness. It’s consistent and it’s delicious. No, the décor isn’t what you go for… it’s THE local spot to get a burger. My girlfriends and I used to always go to Mike’s when we went to Tech and truly not much has changed. I’m glad for that. The burger was exactly how I remembered them tasting… fresh and meaty! The service can be slow on game days(as every place in Blacksburg is – they are BUSY!) but the waitresses are as sweet as can be.

Closed from July until August 17th. Very cool of you to note that – not on your web. We are here now. Really???

A dive just outside VA-Tech where they advertise their world’s famous burgers. Really? Famous for being average? I’ve had burgers everywhere in this country and this doesn’t place in the top 100. If you want an average cheap burger, then come here.

Ate here yesterday, loved it! Great burger. Took a few minutes to get our food, but it was worth the wait. The service was a super-pleasant college student. I would definitely go again and I also would recommend Mikes to anyone who likes a really big delicious burger!

Since leaving Blacksburg we’ve lived a lot of places and traveled all over the world. Nothing has compared to a Mike’s burger. We think of and talk about it all the time. A great example of American small business.

After hiking the Cascades for the first time(amazingly beautiful!), my mom and I definitely needed carbs so we decided to try Mike’s Grill. I had never been there in my four years of undergrad at VT, and I’m kicking myself in the foot because it was so good! When we walked in, the look was horrible. It is definitely a hole in the wall. The booths are hard, there is no décor, the TVs are old(the ones with the brains), there is music playing from a raggedy radio and there is no one server for your table. Our server’s shorts were so short that you could not see if she had pants on underneath her apron. These are the reasons why I gave Mike’s 3 stars. If I had to base it on food alone, I’d give it a 4.5. The fries were good but nothing special. The salad dressing was phenomenal(home made) and so was the cheeseburger. I’m not sure why they serve the burgers upside down– maybe that is their attempt at being unique? I thought it was a mistake so I turned it over. Just goes to show that if that’s a thing, then they should probably explain why they do it! The answer might reveal an interesting history of Mike’s. I wish that I had made a point of going here while I was in school because it definitely fits a college kid’s budget. My mom and I ate together for $ 11. Can’t beat that. We split a burger because it was huge, and that worked out perfectly because we left feeling great; not sluggish or sick. If you are in Blacksburg, definitely give Mike’s a try, just don’t let the atmosphere turn you away!

A high school and college kid’s dream! The burgers are absolutely delicious and inexpensive. Nothing pressed and disgusting here, lots of topping to choose from. Also they are HUGE so split it with someone. Ditto for the french fries. The menu is — let’s call it streamlined. Do you want a burger or a cheeseburger? OK now, fries or onion rings? Drink? Done. I’ve never had the pizza or salads because this is A BURGERJOINT! You’re on your own there. Depending on the day and time of day you may wait a few minutes longer than usual. The wait is worth it, still, don’t go in really hungry on game day — that’s just stupid. The interior is drab but no one goes there for the atmosphere. A spruce may be nice but it’s really kind of unnecessary unless maybe the VT designing school needs a spot for a cool project. This is a family run spot that has been a staple for years. Mike just passed away and the entire community has felt the loss. Here’s hoping his family carries on this delicious local treasure.

I went here on a recommendation from a VT alum. She said to not be deceived by the lackluster interior because the burgers were so good. The interior was pretty lackluster though. There is a difference between old-style/retro/nostalgic and tired. This place was tired. Hulking old TVs, dim lights, and old tables and booths were the highlight here. The menu is very small – pretty much a hamburger or bust it seems. I ordered a burger, and it took quite awhile to come out. When it did, it was very good, albeit gargantuan. I actually managed to finish the entire thing. The burger was juicy and served on an upside down bun which was an interesting look. Service was fine – really nothing to write home about. The cashier somehow got overwhelmed with 2 customers in line – she seemed thoroughly confused. Overall, the place needs a facelift. The burgers are quite good, but the atmosphere needs some serious help.
