Seriously the worst service I have ever had. First of all some background: I was in a party of 7 people. The seating area of this restaurant is quite small, and it was only half full. The menu is brief, offering more drink options than food options and offering no description on the food. One plus is that all of their food options are $ 5 or $ 10. After arriving, the waitress decided to bring us all waters while we browsed the menu. It took about 15 minutes to bring the water out. After taking our drink orders, it was another 15 minutes to get those. Then we placed our order. It took seriously well over an hour to receive ONE dish. Now mind you, this is a SMALL plates restaurant, we weren’t asking for any ridiculous amount of food. 3 of us ordered the SAME dish – Chicken and Lobster and Southern Dumplings. Logic would dictate that those 3 orders would be prepped together, but they were not. One order of the Dumplings came out, and it was not attractive. The chicken was very dry, and it was an extremely tiny serving(From the $ 10 menu, I expected more). It was another 20 minutes before another dish came out. Then the dishes rolled out in about 5 – 10 minute intervals until we had received about 85% of our order(Some people ordered more than one dish due to the small servings). The other two dishes of Chicken and Dumplings came out, looking completely different from the first. At this point we were fed up. I, who had received my dish first, was already hungry again. We were just about to throw an appropriate amount of cash on the table and leave when the remaining 3 dishes came out. Except they were the wrong dishes! We refused the plates and ask for our check, making it easy by dividing the check only into two pieces. When we got our check, they had charged us for the 3 dishes we never received AND they charged us $ 24 for a bottle of wine when we only had a glass($ 6.50). We painstakingly sorted out the blatant errors and left, going to another establishment to actually enjoy ourselves.

If you’re in the mood for sushi in Blacksburg, keep away from Poor Billy’s. I’ve gone here four times now and all four times were consistently disappointing. In most recent time– my friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant, so you would expect a pretty fast service. WRONG! They are incredibly slow; taking more than 20 minutes to prepare 2 rolls, and another 5 minutes to get the check. Before, Poor Billy’s used to offer a $ 5 lunch with(come with soup and your choice from a list of rolls). Now, they no longer offer that deal. Now, I’m stuck with paying $ 8/roll, but that isn’t really t the problem. I’m usually happy with paying ~$ 8/roll, given that they are of decent size and quality. However, Poor Billy’s rolls were THE smallest sushi rolls I have ever gotten and they were not tightly rolled, as you would expect. The only reason I would even consider giving Poor Billy’s a single star is the staff was nice, despite their extreme sloth-like movement.

Poor Billy’s Sushi Bar is a cute little place next to Poor Billy’s seafood. It’s decorated quite nicely and they play awesome classic rock music. But that’s the end of my joy with this place. Service is solicitous, but very slow. The sushi chefs cannot seem to keep up when more than two tables are filled. The waitresses also prepare many of your appetizers. I don’t think they have any kitchen staff other than the sushi chefs, and it comes across as kind of a juvenile operation. The sushi itself was decent(when we finally got it), but I thought it was kind of pricey for the portions and the location.(Most college kids can’t afford to blow $ 70 on an average dinner.) We also had the seaweed salad which was absolutely icy — I’ve never had it served that cold before! I would definitely NOT recommend that! Sadly, I just cannot recommend this place when there are so many better options in Blacksburg.
