Good food & prices(considering there is lots of bread and skimpy fillings), BUT how can it be a «Deli» without a single sandwich having pastrami?

Literally can’t go wrong with any sandwich on the menu. It’s cheap too and sometimes, they have a real good deal on tap beer as well. Love this place!

My favorite place for a sub or a sandwich. Variety of creative subs and sandwiches to choose from! Great music and it’s cheap. Plus, they give you a cookie! :)

Seems like a fun place to have a beer, but the subs are dry and 90% bread. Maybe I have been spoiled by the northeastern delis I grew up with, but four slices of salami and a few thin slices of ham and provolone does not constitute a decent sub. Also, they don’t have pastrami.

I love it here because they have everything and something for everyone. And their own creations really are creative and good. The BBQ is good and the wraps are good. And you get a cookie :)

My favorite dive in Blacksburg! It’s cheap, the subs are great, and the music wonderful! Even my kids love it. It’s hard to find on Draper Road and it is down some steep stairs. As far as I know, there is no handicap access. It IS a dive. No fancy tables or décor and the bathrooms are what you would expect in a place like this. That being said, it is a hidden jewel, a diamond in the rough. Mike is the owner and is friendly and cares about his place.

The nightlife here is awesome & so are the sandwiches. The staff could be nicer but you can forget about them after a few drinks

Best bang for your buck food and drink. My favorites are always the daily specials. During the school semesters, it is also the best place in town for live music.

Pretty average sandwiches, but the bread is amazing. It was really soft and I couldn’t believe that bread came from a place that looks like this. I thought this was going to be a legit restaurant, but it was just a bar that happened to serve an extensive list of sandwiches. It was really empty when I went for lunch on a week day, but maybe it was because all the Tech kids were on spring break. This place has a ton of seating and the table I chose was kind of unstable. Be weary of your beverages on a shaky table. Average service.

Ate lunch here today with my son, a freshman at Tech. The Unilocal reviews were spot on. Great deli! And to the person who recommended The Tugboat… wow! My son ordered it and he can flat out eat but brought half of it back to his dorm room. Excellent sandwiches. Don’t go looking for ambience, though the«divey-ness» of the place is ambience in itself. We’ll be back… a lot.

Reasons why I love Sycamore Deli: 1. Tugboats. If you haven’t tried it, you have to. Seriously. I’ll ask for it as my last meal here in Blacksburg and quite possibly my last meal in life. 2. Cheap happy hour. Sycamore may be down in a basement and have no windows, but who cares when pitchers are ~$ 4 for happy hour? Their beer selection is pretty good. 3. All the quirky sandwiches and their names. Whoever runs it has a great sense of humor. 4. Its never too crowded for meals. It definitely should be though. It gets pretty crazy on weekend nights(when a band is playing you can’t hear yourself think) but if you’re looking for a meal and everywhere else seems to be full — head to Sycamore. 5. Tugboat. I can’t stress it enough. 6. Super friendly and nice staff. I’ve seen one guy working there quite often — don’t know his name, but he always smiles and looks like he genuinely likes working there. 7. Right next to campus. Perfect location. 8. THETUGBOAT! I can’t stress it enough — Sycamore Deli is the best Blacksburg has to offer. Its not classy or froo-froo in any way, and thats why it wins. I love you Sycamore Deli!

I love sycamore. It’s a strange hole in the wall atmosphere in the basement of a building, but they have a massive sandwich selection and you can’t go wrong with any of the choices. Prices on food are reasonable but you can’t get a beer anywhere else in Bburg cheaper than here. I used to go to Sycamore frequently when they were over on turner st as a freshman living across the street, but their new location is so much more convenient. Also, I’m really glad that they have started to become an up and coming music venue.

Icky, dive-y, college-student sandwich joint with greasy food that is as boring as possible except for the names of sandwiches. I’m not a big fan of chains, but Jimmy John’s around the corner offers better food.

They’ve moved and I hear things are better. I will update this over the summer of 2012.

Sycamore boasts a VERY large selection of cheap sandwiches, wraps, melts, and subs. And they’re all good-to-great. The vegetarian wrap, the«Diablo» wrap, and the«Mini-Me» are favorites. There’s a special every day, and it usually includes a cookie. Take advantage of this. The cookies are delicious. Sycamore had to stop selling kegs, because this new location on Draper won’t allow for it. But they now offer daily draft beer specials, including«$ 5 Fridays»($ 5, any pitcher, all day). They’ve also added a pool table and 2 dartboards. I’m amazed this place is so empty all the time. This is the perfect«2-hour lunch» spot. Go before the secret gets out…

The new location is great! There are over 20 specialty sandwiches you can try and a LOT more to try after that. The owner of the deli is extremely nice and so are the rest of the staff. The bread on their sandwiches are toasted to PERFECTION and are way beyond 12″. I’ll take the roof scratching over and over again to bite into that perfectly toasted crust and chewy bread insides. The sandwiches come with a bag of chips and pickle and they have some pretty sweet(alcoholic) drink deals. Pool table… cool relaxed environment… its a great go to lunch place. If they had some dart boards it would be perfect!!!

Damn good. Takes 3x longer than subway but worth the wait. Huge menu, good food. Soda is a bit overpriced though… $ 1.70 I think

One of the best little-known places in Blacksburg. Like any good deli and/or sandwich shop, they have a huge list of sandwiches with odd names posted up on the wall for you to choose from. I’m personally a fan of the meatball sub, but I haven’t had anything bad here. The décor is different, but hey, it’s a tiny shop in a college town. I try to stop in every time I visit Tech, especially the morning after the bars, but it doesn’t always happen. I love it, but not many others know about it so they always want to hit up some place they know. If you can get in here, though, do it.

Great homemade bread for the subs. My favorite is the turkey, chips, choco chip cookies. You can try some of their premade sandwiches or create your own.
