I went to a wedding in Minneapolis over the weekend. I was part of the wedding party and the groom chose to have his groomsmen and ushers wear tuxes from Savvi. This was the 2nd time in 2 years that I rented a tux from Savvi. Months before the wedding, I went to a local Savvi store in Atlanta and had my measurements taken for free. I then called those measurements in to this Savvi in Blaine, Minnesota. I placed a $ 25 deposit over the phone via credit card and then in week or so leading up to the wedding, I paid the remaining balance of about $ 110. Just a couple days after placing my deposit, I received a handwritten thank you card in the mail from Katie at Savvi along with my receipt. I thought that was a nice gesture. I spoke with Katie on the phone to pay off the rest of my balance and she mailed me the final receipt. We(the wedding party) arrived in Minneapolis the day before the wedding and tried on our tuxes. A few adjustments had to be made. I needed my sleeves to be 1 inch longer. All adjustments were taken care of within an hour or two. Someone went to the store that evening to swap for the better-fitting pieces. I thought the groom made a great decision on the tux style. They were slim fit black tuxes with flat front pants and black neckties. I already forgot what our jacket lapels were like. Check out my photo if you care to see. All I know is they looked good. Overall, I was pretty pleased with the tux rental experience from this Savvi.

It’s been a few years since I was in a friend’s wedding and this last weekend I had the chance to see another one tie the knot. We had a good time, but if I was in charge of the tuxedo rental portion I would have done things differently. It started with an inattentive staff that were more interested in getting my friend to make his decision and get out, rather than helping two people with an important part of the wedding experience. It was honestly service more suited for the food court than a place handling formal wear. Though my biggest complaint was the tuxedos themselves were really poor quality. The shirts felt a bit rubbery and were as big as a tent with no shape to them at all. The patent leather shoes we so uncomfortable I had to change into other ones at the reception. The shirt studs were cheap. And two of the Groomsmen had to get suspenders on the day of the wedding because the adjustable pants keep slipping to the biggest size — they were tired of continually having to pull their pants up during the pre-wedding pictures. My pants were another issue. I was asked by the photographer to squat down for a picture and I heard a tear in my pants where the legs come together. When I returned the pants, they told me I had to replace the them because it was the fabric that ripped and not the seam. Sad thing is I’m not that big at 6 feet 200 pounds. So that was another $ 75 on top of the $ 150 I’d already spent. 4 years ago I was in another friend’s wedding, we went to the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul and it was a much better experience all around. Bottom line: if you want to be uncomfortable during the day, while being overcharged for the quality go here. But I think you’ll get a better experience somewhere else.
