I went here the day before my birthday as a gift from my dad. I was super excited since I don’t go on a lot of trail rides with my barn at home. I really had a GREATTIME! Our tour guides were WONDERFUL! My horse Star was a little crazy but it was because he wanted to be infront of the group not behind, which is understandable since it is a dominate trait. I’m kind of glad they gave me Star since there weren’t many people who have ridden in our group. Ryan was wonderful and we talked the whole time! He was really nice! The ride was on a beautiful trail and it was very peaceful and pleasant. I really can’t wait to go back!

Perfect get away from NYC. Went here for a 2-hour ride with my wife and we absolutely loved it. The ranchers pick the horses for you and they’re very good at matching you up with the horse’s size and personality. The trail was absolutely beautiful. Would love to go back and do this again in the fall. Double-D is Double –A’s in my book.

I don’t know why this place only has 3 stars. I had tons of fun.

My experience at the Double D was absolutely fantastic! It was exactly what i was looking for — a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. An opportunity to kick back and ride the trail. Did i feel like a cantor, or lope? Or did i just want to do some easy walking through the woods, by the river? It was all up to me. The wrangler Lindsay was super cool, friendly and totally laid back… precisely what i was hoping for. My horse(Cody) was an easy ride… i was comfortable in the saddle, it was a magnificent, sunny day, the river was glistening, the forest was cool and shady, and i was transplanted to another world… i highly recommend a 2-hour ride, or longer! Good times all around… check out the Double D!

I couldn’t find a review of this place on Unilocal before we went but the review that came up on google was lukewarm. So, I figured maybe that person just had bad luck. Then, every point that was complained of happened to us during our ride. My husband and I drove about one and a half hours from our house to take our two girls, ages six and eight, on a «2 hour» horseback ride. We were put on horses, asked if we had ridden before and when we said«no» the lady merely responded«have any questions?». Where was I supposed to begin? There was no instruction and being left to ask the right questions was troubling. Then our group of eight left for a ride accompanied by two«guides» in a line. The guides talked amongst themselves, chain smoked the entire ride and barely looked back at us even though our group included children. We learned nothing about the beautiful animals we were riding or of horseriding in general. My horse, Cody, had attitude and was more interested in eating leaves along the path than following the group. When I attempted to get him back in line using the reigns, he would snort and throw his head up and down abruptly, thrashing me about. I found the situation slightly amusing and decided it might be less painful to let him do what he wanted. After the tenth time of him doing that a guide happened to notice the issue for the first time and scolded me for not keeping him under control. I explained that I am a novice on a horse with attitude and maybe I would do better with one of the guides keeping better watch of us and helping. She responded that her five year old rides these horses without a problem. Another time she scolded me because Cody bit another horse as it innocently tried to pass Cody during one of Cody’s pitstops for leaves. Really? My six year old was riding the bitten horse and I could only imagine that it could have been her leg, but the guide was more worried about the horse. Not a safe environment created by these guides. Otherwise, the scenery was beautiful and we all had a good time. Beware that when they advertise for a two hour ride, they mean 90 minutes.

Double D’s guest ranch is smack in the middle of NJ country. This place is considered ‘little wyoming’. It’s a gorgeous ride. This is easy enough for beginners & kids. It got a little tight when we ran into another tour but that was the only hick-up. My horse was a retired race horse loser! My hubs horse was also retired but he won his owners hundreds of thousands of dollars. We actually won off of him about five or so years ago at meadowlands. There was also a real mustang there and a horse which was saved from an auction. He was on sale for $ 2.50 for his meat. I think the horses could be better in all but it was a lot of fun in a beautiful area of the world. It cost $ 65 for a two hour ride. If you would like a beautiful autumn escape, then this is your place. Note that you need a car to get to the ranch.
