Great food at a reasonable price. The pie is also excellent. It is nice to see retro diners like this one still around!

Sorry to say but this was one of the worst diners Ive ever been to. The food you can tell comes prepackaged and they just warm it up. Nothing is made fresh. My food came out with a hair on it… and tasted like tap water and very bland. Also the inside needs an upgrade big time. The menu is also super small. Everyone says they have great pie. I tried a couple different slices. Its not special. If you think their pie is «so great», you must not get out much… The pie crust was bland and had a flour taste, and the pudding they use tasted like canned pudding. The waitresses also wear all white scrub type outfits. I felt like I was in an episode of The Twilight Zone. Definitely wont be back here.

Stopping here has been a tradition for decades, so I’m a sentimental fan of Dean’s reasonably sized burgers and delicious pies. But do the waitresses have to wear hospital scrubs? Staff here were looking really rough on my last visit, like they could just as easily have been emptying bedpans.

Dean’s Diner holds a special place in my heart. As a kid, when we would make trips to my grandparents’ house, we would always stop at Dean’s on the way. I remembered they always had great breakfasts and desserts. I also remembered that it was definitely a locals kind of place, everybody knew everybody.(Norm!) Such was the case on a recent visit my dad and I made to Dean’s on our way up to visit my uncles and aunt in my dad’s hometown. It was a Sunday around 11am… so you can image the church crowd. The diner section was full, so we had to find a table in the dining room. There was a lot of «Hey Joan! How’s the baby?» and such. Several of the tables are big enough for 6 — 8 people and we noticed many folks swapping seats and just, in general, chatting with each other and enjoying each other’s company. We definitely felt like outsiders, but it was nice to see that places like this still exist and that Dean’s atmosphere hasn’t changed. My dad ordered an omelet, home fries, and rye toast and I got a cheeseburger with fries. To my disappointment, Deans’ did not deliver quite the way I remembered it. The fries were fine: warm, crispy, just okay. My burger was just okay too, the bun was a little hard and the burger simply lacked flavor. My dad said that his meal was fine too, but it was apparent that the home fries were under cooked. But, with two drinks, two meals, and the tip, the bill came to less than $ 18 so how can we complain, really?

My wife and I used to eat here as kids many, many years ago. When my wife suggested we stop there because she wanted to see if they still serves pie, of course I’m in. The menu was very easy to follow and, unlike so many dinners these days, the price was surprisingly low. I definitely didn’t feel like I was being fleeced. Breaded mushrooms, wing dings, and loaded potato skins were first on our minds as we hadn’t had these appetizers in quite some time. We all ordered an omelette, except for my youngest who had a short stack of pancakes. The main entrees came up fast and hit the spot. I especially loved the strawberry jam and apple butter for toast. Following our meal, though we were quite full, we opted for one piece of apple pie to split between the four of us. The pie was delicious and had we not been full we would have tried one of each pie in the frig. I’m so glad this place is still open and the feelings of nostalgia that it brought back made it worth stopping even before we ate. Don’t change a thing!

Big portions, small prices. We were traveling and needed to eat and we wanted somewhere we couldn’t eat at back home. Came upon Dean’s Diner and we were not disappointed. The wait staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. I had the French toast that consisted of two oversized pieces of cinnamon swirl Texas toast served with warm syrup. My boyfriend had a western omelet with corn beef hash. The omelet had nice chunks of meat and veggies and the portion of corn beef hash took up half the plate. The server asked if we wanted any pie when she dropped the check and even though we were both so full you could have rolled us out the door we couldn’t say no. The pieces of pie she brought back were huge and filled a small container. So glad we found this gem.

The food was mediocre, and the service was awful. Our food took a long time to come out, and the waitress put our food down without saying a word. She kept disappearing to the kitchen as we waited for our bill. A couple that came in 15 minutes after us left before us. I had the roasted turkey. It was fairly small and just okay.

Came into town on business it was late… needed a good meal. Stopped in at Deans and ordered up the Fried Chicken dinner with sides of Mash potatoes with gravy, baked beans. DONOT let the diner décor fool you. this is a top notch place with great food and even better service. My dinner was so satisfying I had to order the cherry pie to go. Whoever is in charge at Deans —-DO NOT change a thing. best meal I have had in a long time… My business trip is for two days and should the cherry pie seal the deal…“I’ll Be Back”…

Always looking for that special greasy spoon with something to rave about. Nothing special here. Not bad but nothing to rave about either.

Huge pies. Cheap eats. Great service. It’s old school style. Roadside diner. Superb and definitely worth the drive from pittsburgh if you’re heading out this way for any reason.

I love diners. This one is good but they have to watch the amount of salt they put in things… a bit much for my taste. Less is more, the patron can always add it but can’t take it away. Since it’s off the highway the crowd here varies from locals to bikers and families. The customer service is friendly and quick.

Food was ok. It took 25 minutes to get our food. Too bad they got my order wrong and the waitress was snotty when I pointed it out. She said she was busy. I get it. Too busy to be polite to customers. Don’t waste your time. Drive another 20 minutes to Indiana and get something better along with friendlier service.

I’m from this town and this place is an institution! They serve good diner style food and are open 24⁄7. Their pies are excellent and they have a huge selection. The food is what you would expect sandwiches, breakfast food, hamburgers. It’s not fine dining, it’s a diner. If your in the mood for a dive go here. If your looking for 5-star Resturant go to one. As for other Resturant in the area, it’s this or fast food.

I have visited this place over the years. My wife is from the area and when we come to visit over the summer it’s a stop we try to make. The service is friendly and efficient. These western Pennsylvanians are all so friendly so it’s not a big stretch for them anyway. The food was all good, nothing spectacular, but certainly good. I’d give them 3.5 stars if I could. What makes this place stand out though is their pies and the large selection to pick from. They had them of all kinds and flavors — fruit, cream, merengue, whipped, warm, cold, a la mode, or not. It’s certainly the best part of the place and makes it a must stop for anyone visiting the little hamlet of Blairsville, PA.

Very impressed with the food, what a great 1930’s vibe in here and pies as big as your head! Diners, Drive-ins and Dives should check this place out!

Stopped in for breakfast on a saturday. It took 45 minutes to get our breakfast of 2 eggs and bacon. The bacon was raw, the potatoes under cooked. Had to wait for the check. Then had to wait for the cashier to pay. A quick breakfast it was NOT, and not cheap either. It was do horrible one had to laugh.

Nice small dine from the 30’s. had the grilled chicken. Not in my top 5, but decent enough. Will try something else on my next time in. Seems they are known for their pies, their all homemade and have a lot of them filling the cases.

You either like this place or you don’t. It is a little dirty and the wait staff could be nicer but overall its a diner. Can’t go wrong with the burgers. Anything else is iffy. I was there with my 14 month old. He got an apple juice to drink in a styrofoam cup. Needless to say he squeezed and broke the cup. AJ everywhere. The waitress brought us a new AJ but charged us for it. Wow.

As we were heading back from Benton and were an hour away from Pittsburgh, Kay said that she was hungry(a hungry Kay is a cranky Kay), so before we knew it, we were sitting down in a boxcar diner that came straight out of a postcard. The menu is pretty small, but what they have they seem to do well. What do you think I had? I almost ordered chili, but you guessed it, I went for the 1⁄3 lb. burger. It’s like The Clown’s Big Mac and Eat N Park’s Superburger only superior and comes complete with the required third bun in the middle. It’s a triple decker that’s 3 notches above other burgers of its type. The fries. Eh, they were there and were nothing special. The real potato story lies in their potato salad. You know I ordered some, and I was glad I did. I don’t think I’ve ever had a creamier tater salad, and it had a little bit of tang to it as well. It is was what Grandma’s Potato Salad, the ubiquitous bane of delis everywhere, could never, ever be. If they replaced Grandma’s with Dean’s, the world would taste a much better. I tried my girlfriend’s Corn Pudding and was knocked into next month! Man, where has this been all my life? How deprived am I? This is why they call yummy home cookin’ Comfort Food. My, my, my, the pies, the pies… The flavors are numerous, but like Yogi Berra ordering vanilla ice cream at a 31 Flavors, I went with cherry a la mode. The sugarcoated crust was so gorgeous, my mouth fell in love with it. The cherries were real too. Damn real. Damn fine. Cherry… Wanna know why Warrant wrote that chintzy megahit of theirs? They had this pie. And yes it was a little erotic. The All-American Diner exists and my affection for it has been reaffirmed. Support one, support them all, not because it’s an ironic/retro thing to do or even because it’s convenient since it’s on your way to or from somewhere. Just go because the food’s simple, good, and served with a smile as warm as the pie you’ll have for dessert. Diners are a vital piece of Americana. Keep them alive. P. S. When we came here, the waitresses were all wearing white hospital scrubs. We thought we wandered into a Medi-Fast for two seconds. I used to work at a hospital, so I know how comfy scrubs are.

Exactly what you would expect for a roadside diner somewhere in PA between a couple small towns. Eggs, corned beef hash, toast and coffee… exactly what they should be. Service was good and the place looks unchanged from the 60’s(which isn’t a bad thing). If you find yourself passing through the area on 22 and have a hankering for some eggs and such, give it a go.
