Just a spectacular and breathtaking view of the ocean and the bluff. Kind of reminiscent of the California coast up north, with cragged boulders and the pounding waves against the cliff. There are 140 stairs laying down to the beach, and there’s plenty of opportunities for gorgeous photography. Make sure to bring jackets as it gets pretty windy.

Beautiful. It was worth the walk my husband and I took from our hotel on water street and worth the stairs And the climb down to the beach. It’s a must see if you go to block island. The stairs look worse than they are. They are plenty of spots for breathing breaks.

Love the natural beauty of this spot! The 150 steps down are well worth it. Safe, well maintained. The views of the beach, bluffs, & Atlantic are spectacular. The beach is clean, soft & not crowded. Great to walk or chill. Come check this out if your on the island ;)

My first time(and only) to the bluffs was for a school field trip about twenty years ago. I was just here this past Saturday, and unfortunately it was a bit dreary and foggy, but that didn’t really do anything to effect the BREATHTAKING views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Southeastern Lighthouse. It is definitely the most spectacular spot on Block Island, and maybe has one of the most impressive views in all of Rhode Island. If you made the trip to BI for the day, this has to be on your list.

Beautiful! I couldn’t believe a place like this existed so close to home. One we climbed down to the beach, I forgot we were in Block Island. The climb can be a little treacherous, but so worth it!

One of the best lil hidden gems on the island. You MUST see this place— if you can even walk there do it! WHY? It is free. It is beautiful. It is about a 10 min bike ride/20 min walk + there is a very large sign directing you to the path. At the end of the path is a beautiful wooden staircase down to a hidden beach. The walk down is a lot easier than going up but totally TOTALLY worth your sore legs. Be careful at the bottom as you might bust it on the rocks trying to get to the sand. Apparently { I haven’t had a chance to find it yet } there are some secret mud baths located to the left of the stairs… you have to climb to find them + catch them after a recent rain but apparently it is mud heaven. The beach is pretty sandy + rocky in some areas but feels secluded + most people don’t make it out there or even down the stairs… since it is a lil hike… it’s not even that bad they prob could use the hike but that is beside the point. If you don’t mind feeling the burn on the way up, this is your kinda place.

Mohegan Bluffs is a great mini stop on a bike ride around the island. If you’re legs aren’t already sore from the first major hill of biking or even if they are, you should take the time to walk down not only the many wooden steps but also the small path to get to the beach. There you’ll find a great view of the bluffs from the ground and maybe even some rock scultpure. The day I was there, the beach was covered with over 1,000 rock sculpures ranging from 3 rocks to as many as 20. One even echoed the shape of the bluff itself. So take a moment and add to the scenery of the space and build your own rock sculpture. Then after you’ve rested a bit, make the steep ascent back to your bike and continue riding around the beautiful island. If you’re not bike riding, Mohegan Bluffs are still walkable from the Old Port. It’s not a short walk, but it’s definitely doable and I would say it’s worth it.

On a clear day you can see forever The Mohegan Bluffs are one of the most spectacular spots on all of Block Island, yet for some reason not many visitors take the time to see them. People drive and bike by don’t actually stop. I went yesterday, a beautiful July day, and only a small group of people were hanging around the beach. Even though it was a warm day the strong wind that was blowing off the ocean made it feel much cooler. Sure it’s a tons of steps to get to the bottom and the clay cliffs can kill you if you’re stupid enough to climb on them but the views and scenery are so fantastic that it’s worth falling off a cliff or humping up a zillion stairs. Unfortunately the erosion gets worse every time I go and the trail down becomes more and more dangerous. I have a feeling in a few short generations this wonderful spot is going to be inaccessible to none but the hardiest or foolish of souls.
