just stopped for a quick jaunt to blow off some energy — my 3yo son was getting restless so we got out, threw some stones in the lake, took a little hike on the path, and left.

In 1910, resident Albert Filley donated 6 ½ acres to the town, and today this land is known as «Filley Park». This once gorgeous park just north of the town center has fallen on hard times — as a combination of tight municipal funding and mother nature’s damage in the form of geese and duck swarms. The park had fallen into disrepair, and the by-products of the geese and ducks have made the grounds uninhabitable for human frolicking. Bloomfield is working hard to reclaim the park –it established a Park Committee in 2008, and hired a consulting firm to study the environmental issues and establish a vision for the reclamation of the park. The idea is to include a picnic area, playground and a great lawn surrounding the center Pond. The Pond is all silted over and will have to be excavated and restored. There are all kinds of wetlands and environmental issues. The website refers to a euphemism of «Invasive species»(ducks and geese and their poop) that will have to be removed or controlled. There are some very ambitious plans on the drawing board to rehab the Park, but funding is the key and it doesn’t look like things are moving ahead quickly. What a shame…
