I like to come here whenever I’m in the area, which unfortunately is not very often. The burgers are some of the best I’ve ever had. The Big Ugly challenge is also pretty cool. If you can eat a one pound burger, you get your picture on the wall. There is no time limit, but you have to eat it all by yourself. Two of my friends manager to complete it. It’s definitely a great place to go.

Great options! I always enjoy the elk burger quarter-pounder($ 7.95) and adding a vineagarette-soaked portabello mushroom for $ 4. This is the same portabello that is part of the portabello sand which and truly delightful! Their chili is also excellent — you’ll like lyl get a sample. The milkshakes are INTENSE and amazing but also intense. Drink it all at your own risk or have Tums nearby. :)

Graduation weekend but there I was, near downtown and hungry. Decided to check out Bub’s. There was a crowd waiting to get in, not a surprise considering that there are a ton of families in town for commencement. We had about a 10 – 20 minute wait, according to the friendly host who was rocking his man-bun. It turned out to be 20 minutes but all good. Free sample of chili when we sat down, nice. Big space, tons of seating inside and out. Sort of noisy and our waiter spoke softly and quickly, not a good combo. I ordered the quarter pound burger(not quite so ugly? or something like that) and my partner ordered the salad and a mini elk burger. Burgers were delicious. Great, high quality meat. Good condiments. Unlike other reviews, we liked the buns. They are a tad thick, but they are also smaller than the burgers and you needs a pretty substantial bun to hold things together. Jean really disliked her salad. She said it had absolutely no flavor. Not even the bacon. It may have been pre-made or something, she was not impressed. She did love her elk burger. Neither of us were fans of the waffle fries. For one thing, they were room temp when they arrived at our table. Decent crunch but just not hot enough. Didn’t want to send them back because the joint was jumping and we were sort of in a hurry to get on with our afternoon. Server dude was very nice and efficient. Nice to have soft drinks refilled for free. Would like to try the shakes and the ice cream at some point. Will definitely be back for another burger and maybe to try the standard variety french fries. Best burger I have had in a long time.

Very nice way to enjoy some beef or elk meat. Simple foods done well with big American sized portions. I think I’m in love.

I told the manager that I wouldn’t write bad review because of the slight amount of respect that I had for the restaurant’s sweet potato fries with marshmallow sauce, but after being lied to and treated like a 3rd class citizen, it would be on my conscious for me not to, as I am such a highly acclaimed food critic in this city. Me and my friend ordered some burgers as well as chicken fingers and«wings.» If I wasn’t famished I would’ve walked out the door the second we saw our food. Fortunately for them, the burgers were average, yet very, very greasy. My friend received chicken fingers that looked like they were attacked by Freddy Krueger(see picture), and I received an order of wings that was nearly impossible to decipher whether they were a wing or a leg(see picture). After asking the manager what he thought, he began to tell us that«he would eat them anyways» which appalled me, because the customer should always be right(at least in my ethics). He proceeded to bring our«chicken» back to the kitchen to ask where they went wrong. He comes back and starts spewing to us that the wings are«packaged» and that a lot of them in the packaging«look like that.» In that case, I will never go back to eat their artificial mutated chicken. The manager then proceeds to bring out an order of how the«chicken fingers» should look, and they looked far from what my friend received. The model chicken fingers he showed us were clearly pampered and look nothing like what you will receive if you decide to eat here(see picture). He then proceeds to count how many we ate and came up with the conclusion that he would give us 20% off, which seemed almost reasonable, for I would’ve took them both off the bill and shut us up with a complimentary milkshake if I managed this«restaurant.» I have 0 tolerance for dishonesty as we received our bills which subtracted $ 1.30 to try and satisfy us. I don’t care about the money, I am a man of principle and $ 1.30 doesn’t even add up to 20% of any aspect of our meal. I wonder what calculator he was using. If you still have the nerve to eat here, I highly recommend ONLY the burgers and sweet potato fries with marshmallow sauce, and expect disrespect from the manager if you have any questions. With all the farms in Indiana you can at least expect some decent chicken, no? I’m done. Goodnight.

Bub’s was great! Our server was so kind and very efficient. I really enjoyed the sample of chili that you get right when you sit down! We were not really sure what to expect from Bub’s, but staying right across the street we figured we would give it a try… and boy are we glad that we did! I think H wants to move to Bloomington to eat at Bub’s nightly :) We opted for the«not so ugly Bub» which was(I believe?) ¼ pound burger. We should have gone for the ½ pounder it was so good! We had the sweet potato waffle fries(pay the extra .50 for marshmallow sauce… you won’t regret it!!) Overall Bub’s is a solid burger joint. If we were to live in Bloomington, it would be in our ‘regular’ restaurant rotation! Until then, we can’t wait to come back for great food and outstanding service!

Staff is amazing and very welcoming. The chili is too die for — along with what they are truly known for — their burgers are fantastic! I’ve never written reviews before, but this is a must visit for folks! I took a chance and trusted other Unilocal users and I think you should too!!! In town for a softball tourney supporting Michigan State — but these Hoosiers welcomed us right!

The burgers, chicken sandwich, loaded fries, and onion rings are all awesome. Everything I have tried here is amazing. Also very nice environment. Plus they have delicious ice cream.

I had the Settle For Less Ugly Elk burger and sweet potato waffle fries with a half sweet-half unsweet iced tea last Friday and it was sooo good! I had cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickle on my burger with some ketchup and mustard. Perfect! I declined the undoubted decadent marshmallow dipping sauce for my spwf. They did have a seasoning on the them that was a bit salty for my taste. I would be interested in knowing if they could leave it off. Otherwise, EXCELLENT!

Best burger on bloomington. I love the sample of chili they give you to get started. The milk shakes are also phenomenal. It’s hidden behind small wood but it’s usually got a good crowd. First place on my list when I was back in town.

I go to Bub’s all the time because of their fantastic burgers. I also really enjoy the blackened grilled chicken sandwich. The sloppy waffles(waffles with cheese, bacon, and chili) are pretty good as well. Definitely would recommend getting a milkshake with your meal!

In Bloomington, when you’re looking for a great burger, Bub’s has to be near the top of your list! They’re famous for their ‘Big Ugly’ one pound burger that was featured on Man vs. Food — but the size really doesn’t matter — it’s the taste of the food. Burgers are amazing, juicy and flavorful. Beef, elk, buffalo, etc. — all are good. And the ‘one pound’ or ‘half pound’ or ‘quarter pound’ etc. is the weight AFTER cooking — so they’re a great sized burger too. Not the least expensive burger you’ll ever eat, but the value: cost:taste ratio is great. Lots of side items — suggest the sweet potato fries with marshmallow dip. Waffle great too. The chili(free samples upon request) is amazing too. Final note — milkshakes. Old school style, meaning you get a full milkshake PLUS the additional ‘overflow’ in a metal shake mixer. Handmade and worth the wait.

A really good burger is hard to beat and Bubs has their burger offerings down pat. I noshed on their Elk burger for the first time on this visit, and would recommend it over the regular burgers(which are very tasty as well). They offer a burger size for every appetite, go small or challenge your stomach with the Big Ugly!

The food was fantastic. When you walk in you see the sizes of the burgers. We were seated quickly and had our drinks on the table within 5 minutes. The server was very friendly and answered our questions. The food came out quickly and was cooked to perfection. The sweet potato fries were pretty good but with the marshmallows sauce it was too sweet. After our delicious burger we ordered our brownie sundae, witch did not disappoint. It was much bigger than I expected but it was sooooooo good. And was eaten within minuets. The price was reasonable for two. Will definitely be coming back

Got the recommendation from a coworker when visiting Bloomington for work. I went all out. I got the ¼ burger, sweet potato waffle fries, cookies and cream milkshake and chili of the day. They were giving free samples of the chili since it wasn’t too busy. It has a good texture, not too chunky and the beef tasted really good. It was a pretty large portion and wished it was smaller since I was getting so much. The burger and waffle fries were tasty. Not out of the world, better than shake shack though. The milkshake was a little too thin for me and probably should’ve passed on it since I was eating so much already! Enjoyed and would like to come back and try the elk burger.

We were«Bub’s rookies» and absolutely loved our first experience. From the soup and chili shooters to the to-go drinks, this place nails it all. Bobby provided phenomenal service, the wait for our food was short and everything was delicious! The ¼ elk burger with pepper jack cheese and bacon hit the spot. Also, the sweet potato fries with marshmallow sauce are a must try. We will definitely be back.

I forgot that Bub’s opened a place in Bloomington. One of my Über passengers said it was the best burger in town. Good to know, because it is in Carmel as well I think my server was new, but he did great. Very attentive, friendly and helpful.
