Frye’s Heating and Air

I believe Rick Frye is the least expensive air conditioning guy in Bloomington.
I’ve had him out twice: both times to install a mini-​split air conditioner. (I purchased the units myself online for around $ 500 at
) Mini-​Splits are not yet common in the United States so I was grateful Rick Frye was willing to work on something most A/​C guys rarely see.
Installation was successful on both units and his price was very fair. He charged a little under $ 400 for installation and this included all parts needed that did not come with my mini-​split system including the pad the outside unit sits on. Install time was roughly a day.
I would have given 5 stars but for for a couple issues. On the first install job I also had him handle the electrical work to the site. This process was a bit slow and so the second time around I had my electrician (Eric Hanson of absolute electric) run the electric and put in the disconnect box ahead of time.
The second issue is that the mini-​split a/​c unit I purchased should also function as a heat pump. That function does not work on my first unit but works just fine on the second. This feature was not important for me as I was just looking for A/​C and I purchased the cheapest unit I could find. If there had been a cheaper option without the heat pump I would have gone with that. I suspect this may have been a learning curve issue for Rick. I can’t blame him because as I mentioned before Mini-​Splits are still rare. Whatever the case, all of the features work on the second one I purchased that he just installed.
I can’t speak to his work on central air systems but I’d recommend him for a mini-​split A/​C unit. For just over $ 1000 total (the unit, the electrician, and Rick Frye) I got a system way better than a thru-​the-​wall A/​C unit. You get great value when you use Rick Frye.
