I love Michael’s, but the listing on the iPhone maps says they’re open till 10 o’clock and so I just drove all the way over here and they closed at nine. Not real happy about that…

What’s not to like about Michaels other then there long lines. It’s bargain prices on oil and acrylic paint that keeps me coming back. GT

This is my choice Michaels location and I’m a regular. I love that it’s big and has a great selection of opportunities. I’ve always said that the day I ever declare that«I’m bored»(doubt that will ever happen though), I would send myself into Michaels to wander the aisles for the next whiff of inspiration and artistry. Besides that I’m certain I have purchased multiple items from every aisle in their store, I have also taken advantage of their professional framing services. Last summer I took a print of mine that I had sitting on the sidelines and unloved for about 10 years, I knew it was time to take it in. The interaction with the framing employee felt a little cold, but the service delivered was fantastic. Now my print of Lake Superior’s Sunken Ships hangs on the wall in all its glory and really looks good. There’s ALWAYS a coupon for Michaels professional framing services, BUT it doesn’t really feel like much of a discount when it’s all said and done(conspiracy theory). Like any of the Michaels locations, this one also seems a little understaffed during the more predictably-populated shopping times. I have been offered help without asking before, but it’s not often. When I actually need assistance is when I can’t find help(but isn’t that Murphy’s Law anywhere you go?). I love that Michaels exists… they’ve pulled me out of many creative blocks. Also, word to the wise, shop with the Michaels coupons or you will definitely be overpaying for everything!

Something about diy wreaths gets my creative side flowing. Unfortunately, I went in today with frames on my mind and was saddened by the lake of staff members and incorrect pricing. I was in the Michael’s for 45 minutes and spent the first 30, looking for an employee who would be able to assist me. I would say tops there were 3 people working today and not one of them could be found(Narnia was easier to find). Once I had my talons on an employee, they were extremely helpful and very pleasant. The second thing that saddened me, was incorrect pricing. I noticed that between their online prices and their in store prices, it could be a difference of a couple dollars all the way up to 100 $(and that was with it on sale in store). I asked if they would match online pricing and they didn’t hesitate, but when they actually checked the price of the product, it was selling for online pricing. It made things very difficult, as I don’t want to be cross referencing every item I want to purchase with their online website. In the end, I gave them three stars because well I shouldn’t have to play where’s Waldo with the employees; the incorrect pricing also just cranked my gears. The staff however was extremely pleasant and was willing to help however they could. I will definitely be back for the little items I need.

Want to blow 2 – 3 hours with your kids? This is the place. It has pretty much everything pertain to art and crafts for every age. My son and I can waste 1 – 2 hours just looking at the model airplanes and cars or looking at all the coin books. My daughter and I can look at the different charms and jewelry stuff that will lead to my demise later when she is wants to be a fashionable teen with all the clothes and jewels… All in all this is a very nice store and the staff is very nice and extremely helpful.

This review is in regards to their frame shop. ITIS A SCAMDONTBUYFROMHEREPEOPLE. They put out coupons for 40% off but they jack up their prices to make sure that they are still getting a big pay day(and that’s only for framing NOT custom matting)! I will give you a perfect example. For my wedding I purchased a 10×20 frame. The intent is to create 5 rows and 2 columns of 3×3 pictures with a double matt. The frame was purchased off their shelf. I would be adding the pictures myself. All I would be doing was purchasing and ordering a very BASIC double matting and doing the work myself. They quoted me at $ 141.09. I was SHOCKED. I was like uhhh the frame itself was only $ 20 on sale and you’re telling me that the very basic matting is $ 141??? You’re NUTS. I called around and got quotes from other custom frame shops in the area and I contacted Wholesale Art & Framing in Bloomington and for the SAMEEXACT double matting it was $ 43. AND I order and wait for my matts that day… I don’t have to wait 14 days for my matts as I would with Michaels. Why the vast difference you ask? That’s a great question that you may want to direct to Michael’s or perhaps the BBB as to why their mark up is so high. It’s highway robbery… clearly taking advantage of the ignorant consumer that doesn’t get the basic concept of a telephone and google to find out her other options before giving away my hard earned money. I could spend hours here … not that I’m particularly creative or talented, but I love to do crafts. Michael’s has a little bit of everything for everyone. This past year, I bought our Christmas tree topper at Michael’s after looking all over Target and JoAnn Fabrics for a nice, big star. Most recently, I was in here looking for beads. They had some bead kits, but I liked the selection at Bead Monkey more. The kits at Michael’s seemed to be more geared towards children’s jewelry rather than the kits at Bead Monkey, which were more for adults. Contrary to what Michael M says, they do NOT have everything. I was looking for a syringe(the kind you might use to mix oil & paint), but they didn’t have any. The people who worked there gave me funny looks when I asked them — do I look like a drug user or something?! Look in the Sunday paper for the 40% off any regular priced item coupon(they have them nearly every week). Never pay full price if you don’t have to!

This is a great store to look around in if you are interested in doing anything creative. They have EVERYTHING! Whether you like woodworking, drawing, painting, knitting, beadwork(yeah, I’m not really sure how one does either of those last two, but I know they have supplies here), or putting models together, this store has everything you might need or want. That said, they are a bit pricey. I bought a package of 24 erasable colored pencils for nearly $ 8, here. 10 minutes later I was at Target, and saw exactly the same box for $ 2 less. If you want variety, Michael’s is definitely the place to go! If you need to save a few bucks, well…
