Steak ‘n Shake

I am including in this review an appeal to the Unilocal app to make 0 stars an option. Steak and Shake is the only place open late near my house and it’s one of my favorite quick burger joints, but this joint is a joke. Bad service and waits for food like you’re dining at an established restaurant. It doesn’t take 35 minuets to prepare and order of fries and a milkshake, unless you are goofing off. I promise I will never return, and will push everyone else I know away from this place.

Food was fine (typical S&S) and service good, but this restaurant is filthy. The lavs look and smell like the black hole of Calcutta and were disgusting (overflowing toilet, overflowing trash bins, filth everywhere). I won’t be going back till rhey get a new manager and a full-​time lavatory attendant.

I waited 40 minutes for my burger and fries at the counter. Then an employee asked courteously, «have you been helped» I responded that I’ve been waiting for 30 minutes. She tells her staff and… 20 more minutes pass by and nothing happens. At this point I ask for my money back. After another 20 minutes the manager comes by and apologizes for the discrepancy. He offers his apology with a free burger and fries***** pending a 25 $ COUPON PURCHASE. Please. Steve, the manager of this horrid establishment, you have failed at your job tonight. I love Steak and Shake, but I will never be back at your establishment again. Have a great live serving veil, sweaty burgers.

The staff are very nice but this restaurant is disgusting. It looks like everything but the tabletops have not been wiped or mopped in ages. A peak into the kitchen revealed food bits and even whole burger buns scattered all over the floor and under a refrigerator. The ladies restroom was so gross, I literally gagged. The smell was nauseating and there were dried up drips of «brown stuff» on the stall walls. Oh, and let’s not forget the flies. This place would probably be shut down if it were properly inspected.

Stopped by this morning Valentines Day 2014 for a burger, To my surprise the drive thru was absolutely disgusting with empty cups and trash, Tossed out coffee and colas, cigarette butts and the Window was despicably nasty! The lack of cleanliness at this point shows how much the cleanliness is done inside. A food business that has a drive thru and looks like this that I described will cater to those who feel right at home with the sloppy disrespect for someone else s business and property. There was also spit on the window where the food is passed thru and the bags and cups are touching when passed out to customer. I will not go back to that trash hole because the management is at fault for not caring better for the outside so that in turn makes me question what cleanliness skills are cared for inside.

Typical Steak n Shake, the food is good and the shakes are fine. The problem I always have here is using their coupons. They are obviously a national printing, but they cant seem to get it right. They always charge more than what the coupon says, and I always have to get the management to straighten the bill out. Even then we sometimes disagree. Makes eating here an unpleasant experience.

I went to eat here for brunch and asked for the kids’ version of chocolate chip pancakes. When the waitress came back, she said she had accidentally put the order in as the adult size pancakes. She told me she charged me the kids’ version price, which was fine and the food was good. The downside to my visit was that I never saw my waitress after my food was delivered. No asking if I was okay or if I wanted a refill on my Diet Coke. I don’t think being ignored is part of customer service.
