I like it! Have been there several times. The owners are present and do go around asking for your opinion of their restaurant and food. I like several of their menu items. The old converted house is magnificent and the added porch and outside areas are welcoming and comfortable. Take time to visit them, enjoy the location and the food. It’s worth it.

I’m struggling between three and four stars because I really enjoyed parts of dining here but really did not enjoy one thing in particular. I ordered the pork belly and scallops and they were both cooked perfectly. BUT they were covered in the worst barbecue sauce ever. it tasted like sweet baby rays. for something as delicate tasting as scallops to be covered in an overpowering yet undimensional sauce was a shame. Great service and environment though!

Outstanding food and service always! My husband and I dine here frequently and are never disappointed. The grits are amazing, with bacon and Gouda cheese. The steaks are cooked perfectly every time. I tried the duck the other night, and it might be my favorite meal there ever. We’ve also stopped by for brunch on Sunday and my husband swears the fish and chips are the best fish and chips he’s ever had. Whenever we have out if town guests, we come here and they always love it. There is truly something for everyone. Everything is awesome; you won’t be disappointed!

Disclaimer: this was a takeout order. We got a couple salads to take to our cabin while unpacking and getting settled in for the weekend. After reading great reviews and hearing my husband applaud the restaurant environment during the pickup, I was sure this would be a home run. He even said he wanted to take our group There tomorrow to eat and watch football. When I opened the Caprese salad… Perfect and as expected. When I opened the«Just the Blues» salad… I was shocked! The salad didn’t even cover the bottom of the box. We’re pretty certain this was a leftover from one of the tables. There is just no way someone would plate this in a restaurant. I’ve added some photos of the box and then when I plated it. This should be called«Just the 3 Bite Blues».

We ate here on a Saturday evening on a trip to a friend’s cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We were able to get a reservation fairly easy, which can make one nervous if you’re able to get a Saturday evening reservation on a short notice, alas, there was nothing to be concerned about. It was a rainy evening, but it didn’t keep patrons away. The restaurant has some serious curb appeal, the way its perched up on a little hill away from the main drag of downtown Blue Ridge. We were promptly greeted and taken to our two-topper in a prestigious, quiet setting in one of their dining rooms. The ambiance here is great, good lighting, décor, but one of the things I thought was a little odd was their choice of music. I believe they were playing some current top 40 selections, when some nice jazzy Sinatra would have been more suitable. I opted for a Pilsner which was a bit too hoppy and bitter(is that odd for a Pilsner?), but it was fine. I try to not to complain too much about beers when I didn’t ask any questions about it. Our server, Robby Sherman was a cool guy, knowledgeable and friendly. I inquired about the cold bar selection of oysters and decided on two each of the three options, which for $ 9 I thought was a pretty decent deal. They were fantastic, and the horseradish, whoa, what a kick! My husband got their soup of the day, a thicker chicken soup which he devoured quite quickly. I had a taste and approved. Menu options were plenty and I opted for one of the nightly specials, a black grouper topped with a crab mixture, served with broccolini and mashed potatoes, The portion of fish was huge, and one of the best things about it, flavor aside, was the temperature of the meal. Nearly every bite of my fish was the perfect temp as a savored every bite. I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish my meal, but I pushed myself and enlisted the help of my husband to help me out. This was one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had(#1 would be the drum fish at Adolfo’s in NOLA). D. J. had the chicken piccata, which to, was delicious. I had a bite and the flavors packed a punch, a serious punch. These days I’m basing what little reviews I’m currently writing on meal memorability. These were meals to remember. I wouldn’t let some of the negative reviews on this restaurant keep you away; I’m a pretty discerning kinda guy when it comes to eating out. Check it out, y’all, and if its good, for goodness sake, write a review!

We were genuinely excited to have lunch in this quaint spot, and hoped it would set the tone for our first visit to Blue Ridge. Unfortunately, things got off to a bad start and didn’t really improve. Upon arriving, a sour faced hostess seated the party in front of us without so much as a glance in our direction. No acknowledgment at all. Another(much more pleasant) hostess seated us on the patio, where we sat for 15 minutes without a server taking our drink order. And there were a lot of servers milling about… Some loitering at the hostess stand. Finally we waived down a manager and a server was assigned to us. After another 10 minutes our drinks arrived. We had to flag down the server to ask about our soup. Then our food arrived… Fish and chips were good. Big portion and cooked well. The burger was raw and we had to send it back. It came back a few minutes later, cooked better but with the wrong cheese and side. Once we finished we had to wait a long time for anyone to come back to bring our check. We were so over the place dessert was out of the question. It kind of ruined our mood and we just wanted to get out of town. Overall, food is average and service is weak. We won’t be back.

Boy, I really do not like to give bad or mediocre ratings, but our little Blue Ridge is growing up and there are simply better options now. As cabin owners in BR for the past 15 years, we have seen the culinary scene grow and change and are so proud of what’s going on in the area, but with a heavy heart, Black Sheep is officially off of our recommendation list. We have been ½ dozen times in the past year and each time there were issues with the food, service or for heaven’s sake, the management. As a food-dude, kitchen coach and chef-instructor I learned along time ago that it has to be about taking great care of the customer. Most of us don’t expect perfection and stuff happens that the team cannot control, but dadgumit, do your BEST to make it right if possible. We loved the menu and the setting in any season. But for an average ticket for 4 guests that can well exceed $ 125 just be glad to see us and help us enjoy an evening without the attitude, the wait(told 15 min, was actually an hour) and correct the mistakes(Duck was served with grits when we ordered potatoes and we were charged for the«extra side»). The drink order was wrong both times and the server’s ONLY comment and resolution was: «Its just so loud in here, I thought you ordered something else…» He charged us for his mistake and when I brought it to his attention, the manager came over and said: «So, what was the deal with your drinks?»…Done…

My wife and I decided to go here for dinner on our visit to blue ridge and it was definitely worth it! We were able to sit out on the covered porch and all of the staff were very friendly and inviting. My wife got the cod special(which she is still raving about) and I got the spaghetti and meatballs the portions were very good sized. I would definitely recommend stopping in here if you’re looking for a great meal!

Tripped over this place. Food was amazing and service was awesome. We started with the bbq pork belly slider appetizer. Pork belly was perfect as was the coleslaw that came with. The housemade bleu cheese dressing is simply perfect. I would have licked the bowl if I could have. For our entrees we had the duck and the vegetarian special of the day, Japanese eggplant parmesan. They make their pasta in house and it had the perfect«chew». The duck was cooked beautifully in a wonderful citrus glaze. Definitely a place to put on your list to visit… it will not disappoint!

Visiting Blue Ridge for the weekend, from Atlanta. This was a great find. Homie atmosphere with delicious food. The service was a little slow, but friendly and welcoming so it didn’t bother us… We were busy chatting and enjoying the patio. We ate at 4 – 5 restaurants during our stay here and this was definitely our favorite.

We give this place a 4 mainly because of the pricing. The restaurant is gorgeous, great atmosphere, perfect for a date. The staff is extremely nice, helpful and knowledgeable, the owner came out to our table to check how everything was, and he was a very nice man as well. Our problem was with the food. While my shrimp and grits were awesome, perfectly cooked and very tasty. My husband’s lamb chops were very charred and under seasoned. For that price we feel the food has to be perfectly cooked. That being said I still think it is worth stopping by. Sit on the patio and enjoy their extensive drink menu, just keep in mind you will be paying quite a bit, so maybe just for a special occasion.

We brought 4 kids and 4 adults into BS and they took very good care of us. Great hospitality and atmosphere. The menu was very diverse with something for everyone. Enjoyed the entire experience and would definitely recommend.

Spectacular food and service! We also had some dietary restrictions and the chef himself came out to talk to us. He told us he would make anything we wanted and then came back out to make sure we liked it. The fish and chips with slaw and kettle chips were awesome. The omelettes were wonderful and the caprese salad was yummy! Such an awesome experience.

Lovely atmosphere in a restored old home. Nice bar and food is pretty good, but should be better for the price. Highest prices in the area; you feel like you are in a Buckhead restaurant.

When I bite into a completely RAW, COLD piece of fish at a place that charges $ 13 for two pieces of cod with potato chips(because fries would cost $ 4 more) I feel sick literally. Now I am spending my evening vomiting. This place is WAY overpriced and obviously they can’t even cook food to the correct temperature. This place must have so many good reviews because there are so little places to choose from.

Found a brochure in our cabin and decided to try this place. It is nicely decorated. The waitresses are a bit abrupt and despite the daily special consisted of 2 entrees, she had to read them off her pad, and still had trouble. We were a party of five for lunch and did not have reservations. It was almost 1:00pm and not at all crowded but the hostess needed to go ask if we could be seated! At this point there were more servers than guests. The food… My husband and I both started off with a corn chowder that the waitress said had no potatoes so I am not sure what the white potato type substance was in the soup. It was bland and needed salt and pepper. My husband ordered the Club. It was impressive in size but the turkey lacked for taste. He also had coleslaw and fries. He said the fries were the best part. Both of my sons, one in college the other in high school, had the brisket sandwiches. Pretty to look at but FULL of fat. It should have been trimmed! Homemade chips kind of soggy and crispy. My college aged daughter went with the meatloaf. Served with mashed potatoes, carrots and green beans. I would not recommend this dish. The meatloaf was once again bland. It has no tomato and was a disturbing color of grey brown. The potatoes and veggies were just that. I got one of the specials. A steak taco. It was great! Steak was cooked perfect and had mushrooms and onions. I also had the coleslaw. It was also delicious! I had the chips too. I was beginning to wonder if this restaurant caters to the elderly crowd as spices are missing from most dishes. Our lunch was over $ 100 and the wait staff is somewhat loud and gruff. Would not recommend.

Black Sheep is an excellent dining choice while in Blue Ridge. Black Sheep Tuna Nachos: Really tasty! They could lighten up on the wasabi though… there were a couple of bites where it really hit you kind of hard. Duck entrée: My husbands dish — he loved it. Not much else I can say because I didn’t specifically ask him… I had the Tuna entrée — it was delicious! There was an orange glaze over it that complimented the tuna well — and the mashed potatoes it came with were literally the best I’ve ever had. I usually eat a couple of bites of mashed potatoes and get tired of them… but I ate every single bite on my plate! Peanut-Butter Banana Pie — I call this a ‘man’ dessert ;) I feel that men typically like the whole peanut butter/chocolate thing way more than the women in my life… but this was so tasty! I thought it would be a bit much, but the pretzels really help break down the richness. My husband had his eyes closed while eating this thing… I’m actually not even joking. He was having a moment.

The setting of the Black Sheep is lovely, quaint and a bit quirky. The waitstaff is attentive and informative. The food, while not particularly adventurous, is tasty and well-prepared. The restaurant boasts an extensive wine list that patrons are able to peruse on their individual iPads. The menu is heavy on substantial meat dishes, most welcome for those with hearty appetites but a bit disappointing for those seeking a more inventive offering. All in all a pleasant place to pass an evening in this delightful mountain town.

So happy that I chose this place for our anniversary dinner. We had a reservation at 730, which they called earlier in the afternoon to confirm. The restaurant is a bit off of the«main» road where a lot of the other shops and restaurants are, which was really nice. The entire building had a great welcoming feeling. Upon arrival, we were taken to our table in one of the front rooms. The restaurant is set up beautifully and has pretty nice décor. It is not overwhelming or cramped. We were sat at the table with an iPad to view the drink selection they had. My husband chose a beer(from a local brewery– Grumpy Old Men Brewing) and said it was delicious. I chose a moscato that was served in a beautiful flute that had a sugar rim and strawberry on it. We each ordered a salad as an appetizer. I had the caprese salad and my husband had the baked pear salad. Both were fantastic and quite large! The caprese salad had the best beefsteak tomatoes I’ve ever eaten. The mozzarella tasted so fresh. His baked pear salad was interesting and had a fantastic flavor. For our entrees, I ordered the duck breast and my husband ordered the pork chop. The duck breast as cooked perfectly. There was quite a lot on the plate, too! The raspberry demi-glacé it came in was probably the best I’ve ever tasted. It said it was served with a creamy risotto, but it was more of a mixed vegetable rice. It was absolutely delicious, but I would certainly not consider it a risotto– even if it is cooked with arborio rice. It also came with carrots and asparagus. The pork chop was a bit overcooked when requested at medium rare, but with the red wine sauce, it was perfect. The mashed potatoes were standard whipped potatoes served at restaurant. We ordered the white chocolate cookie bar(which had coconut, my favorite!) with lemon sorbet. It was fantastic! I could have eaten about three more… When we received our bill, we noticed the prices were cheaper than on the menu! Not that I am complaining. It was a nice surprise. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Blue Ridge area.

Definitely a gem in the community of Blue Ridge, and certainly worth checking out. I came here on the recommendation of a friend with a small group of folks when we were up in the mountains celebrating my partner’s b-day… and I’m glad for the recommendation because this place is awesome! We came at lunch, so most of us ordered sandwiches, all of which were super tasty. I had the French Dip, which was totally yummy… and Tony ordered the Turkey Club, which was equally as tasty. Other items ordered by my party included the Fried Grouper Sandwich and Fish & Chips… and everyone had nothing but praise for all of their selections. As for sides, be sure to check out the sweet potato fries and blue cheese slaw – both are super tasty. I also recommended the chocolate, peanut butter, and banana dessert. I forget what they called it on the menu, but it was super yummy. Check out my pics to get a glimpse of it… and ask the waiter about it if you check this place out. I’m sure they’ll know what it’s called. Black Sheep also features a full bar, including a large selection of draft beers… and their drinks are very reasonably priced(craft brewery draft beers were only $ 5 — awesome). Also, the entire staff is first-rate – from the hostess, to the busboy, to the waitress… they did everything right. The ambiance at Black Sheep is more upscale but still super inviting. I mean, they feature sandwiches on their lunch menu, and my entire party wore jeans… but don’t let that fool you. The restaurant was built in a large, historical house that was converted into a restaurant… and they feature fine tablecloths, etc. etc. Check this place out if you’re in the area. You won’t be sorry… and you’ll probably have food envy like I did when I looked around at other dishes as they came by… damn, I wanted that corned beef and cabbage!!!
