I want to live here. This is easily the friendliest, most perfectly situated libraries in the world with a courtyard worthy of a Home & Gardens spread and somehow exactly the right size for Boca Grande. How many libraries are ideal settings for weddings?

I might be a little biased, since is the library I grew up in. But maybe that’s even more of an endorsement. As a bookwormy kid, this was my heaven. I used to go hunt and peck through the books, marveling at the heavy intricate doors into the room where they nwere kept(only one room way back then; now there’s an impressive children’s room full of great books and space to stretch out). Always kept air-conditioned cold, it was a quick respite from the heat. Inside it was the little locked room with the rare books; I’d poke my face into the iron bars and just stare at things and wonder. I’d find my book and wander outside, where you could sit in chairs under the open porch among the amazing shell collections, or do as I did, and go lay in the grass of either little courtyard and settle in for a long read. The little fountain, the walled-in quiet, the bougainvillea plants… I always felt like it was my own version of The Secret Garden. I grew up and moved away, and became… A LIBRARIAN. Go figure. But every time I’m back to visit the family, I stop in to the little pink library and poke around. It’s gotten better, and a little bigger, but it’s still kept it’s idyllic charms. I walk in and am transported back to those lovely lazy days. You really can’t beat it.

This is probably one of the nicest libraries ever. A must see — this is a great building located just near the heart of town. The front has some amazing wooden doors — step inside to a landscaped court yard, and an open air covered reading room with free wireless. If you need to work away from home, this is the place to do so. Look carfeully, the building and courtyard are so well done, you might mistake this library for one of the near by homes. The library sits on a street that looks out to the ocean. Another cool thing to check out is the DuPont shell collection which is quite extensive and is on display in the court yard. We stopped by during the annual book sale and picked up some great books for less than a $ 1 each — some of the books looked like they had never been opened. 5 Stars for being a cool building, a free activity, a great place to read and having free wifi.
