Outpatient Surgery Center of Boca is basically an eye surgery center. I haven’t been a patient there but have escorted several patients there for their eye surgery so, since I haven’t been a patient, I won’t comment on their procedures but will comment as to my personal experiences. As an eye surgery center perform a lot of procedures starting right off around 7:00 in the morning. From the time you arrive with a patient until the time you leave is generally between two to three hours. I’m pleased to report that everyone I’ve taken there have been more than pleased with their outcomes and the manner in which they were treated. But since patients are generally not allowed to drive after surgery someone needs to take them, someone like me, wait until the surgery is completed and drive them home. The staff are most polite and accommodating to those waiting for patients, but the waiting room is small, cramped and with a number of people passing by I’ve always ended up having to move my feet so that they don’t trip over them. There are a few magazines to read but no television and what sort of bothers me, no coffee, no donuts, no munchies, not even a vending machine. But since the wait isn’t all that long, I suppose I can do without those amenities. On the funny side, being a volunteer worker, more affectionately referred to as an Angel of Mercy, can have its ups, downs and rather hilarious moments such as when you happen to be more elderly and appear less fit than the patient, hence having the patient mistaken as being the escort and you being mistaken for being the patient. However, I can assure you it can quickly lose its humor when, if you are escorting one to the mental or psychiatric ward and the doctor and staff look and you and erroneously assume you to be the mental patient. Please, don’t laugh… it’s not a funny situation to be in. So, other than the fact that I find their waiting facilities somewhat lacking, everyone is nice, they do a good job and all of their patients that I have met, and I’ve met a lot of them, seem very pleased.
