Out of business. Got there and the store is papered up and number disconnected.

I have fallen in love and her name is Rita! I was down in the Boca area for business and stumbled upon an exciting Price it Right type game. One of the prizes was for a free frozen treat inside at Rita’s. I spun hoping to win the grand prize($ 25TD Bank gift card). I reluctantly accepted the prize from the smiling and enthusiastic male playing the role of Bob Barker and went inside. Being that it felt like 110 degrees outside I felt like it was a good idea to cool off for a bit. I was greeted by an exuberant staff behind the counter. I was overwhelmed at first but luckily had time to study the menu as I waited in line. Apparently, there were lots of winners of the same prize that day. Onto my review. I first sampled a new flavor called Swedish fish. You guessed it, it tasted exactly like the candy(which is one of my favs of all time). I decided to go with a chocolate brownie gelati. Which is chocolate frozen ice with chunks of brownie layered between vanilla frozen custard. HOLYCOW! I felt like I was on the episode of Seinfeld with the soup Nazi. My knees buckled and I almost had to sit down because it was THAT good! I managed to make it back here another time before I left town and had an orange cream gelati that tasted just like a creamsicle(YUM). I met one of the owners(Annie). Apparently Rita’s stretches up all the way to Philly. Annie and her husband own and operate 4 of locations in the Boca/Boynton Beach area. Great great person with an exceptional staff! If you’re ever looking for a delicious frozen treat, you owe it to yourself to try Rita’s! With their constantly changing varieties the possibilities seem endless. They also make their product fresh daily and even have a frequent user card where after 10 gelati, the next one is free. It’s one of the few things I miss about being in Florida in August :)

I’m not a big ice cream fan, or anything similar to it like frozen yogurts or Italian ice creams, etc., but my sister has been raving about this place for a while… so, today, right after a stop to DSW( ), I walked a couple of doors up and entered Rita’s. Nothing extraordinary at first site. Just your regular small ice cream place, with a couple of small tables and a small counter, until the guy across that counter greets you — very genuine smile — and starts telling you about Rita’s. If it’s your first time there, as it was for me, you’ll get the full explanation. They have a «menu» on the wall with what flavors they’re offering that day. Apparently they’re usually trying new things and the good ones are added to their line. In Keith’s(manager) own words«if you like something one day and don’t see it next time your here, don’t panic, it will be back, just giving a chance to other flavors». After trying some flavors, Keith suggested(you can always get samples when you go there), I remembered that my sister always has the Cotton Candy Italian Ice. If they don’t have it then she has the Cherry. So I decided to get the Cotton Candy flavor but decided to make it a Gelati, which is a layering of your favorite Italian Ice and creamy Frozen Custard. For others in my family, I went with the Tropical Fusion Ice with Vanilla, and for me the Tangerine Ice with Orange Custard(This is one of the ones I tried there and tasted like a creamsicle — yum!). Everyone in my family was happy I brought dessert — light and perfect for this almost summer Florida weather. Summer’s almost here, we can definitely use a refreshing treat, and not that expensive, the regular size is like $ 3.50. They have Rita’s in different cities and states. Look for the one closer to you. Go try some flavors and start picking your favorite(s).
