We went to see their floral services for our upcoming fall wedding. The venue was interesting, and everything seemed nice as we walked in. When we sat down to discuss what we needed, she didn’t really seem too focused on what WE wanted, but just pointing out that she could use some of the flowers and go with the style of the precious nights’ event. She didn’t bother to ask about our colors until about 15⁄20 minutes in. In an attempt to discuss the floral arrangements for the tables and what would be used as centerpieces, she basically said that it wouldn’t be worth the money for them to put together the arrangements for us. She then insinuated we make our own arrangements, and even gave me tips on how to care for my flowers until my even date(which is in 6 months). All of that information would have been great, had my fiancé & I asked for that or in any way shape or form insinuated that we needed/wanted to spend as little money as possible. What may have been an effort to «help is out» came off as disinterest in our business. We wrapped up by her saying that she’d quote me on the bridal party arrangements we went over and that I’d receive the price sheet in a few days, «two days tops.» Almost three weeks later, I’m still waiting. I’ll just take my business elsewhere, thanks.

Increasingly I seem to be the go-to-person for friends and family when a photographer is needed for an event. To be honest, it’s very nerve racking because I am not a professional photographer. I’m just a dad who has a really nice camera because I got tired of getting fuzzy photo’s while on vacation with my wife and children. Even though I can’t see myself doing this for a living, I’m always honored when people I know trust me with such an important day. My friends got married here last weekend and out of the 4 weddings I’ve been asked to be the lead photographer, this place has to be my favorite location. Quaint is defined as having an old-fashioned attractiveness or charm; oddly picturesque. Thompson House and Gardens is the quintessential poster child for the word quaint. From a photographer’s standpoint, they offer beautifully manicured lawns with a variety of venues scattered around the grounds for prime photo opportunities. Sweeping lawns, fountains, Roman gazebo and even an old west saloon make for fun photos. Also, the house has a wraparound porch and the rear is equipped with a long rustic outdoor bar, barn-like shed, adorable mini-guest house and vine covered trellis walkway. The outdoor setting for a lawn wedding is as romantic as I’ve ever seen and the reception hall is picture perfect for both dining and dancing. The wedding party used the upper part of the home for pre-wedding preparations and privacy. Since the event was catered, there was no need for the kitchen, but there is one available. THEVERDICT It is absolutely beautiful here! Every guest I spoke with was in complete awe of this place, including myself. My wife and I have been considering renewing our vows for our 15th Anniversary next year and Thompson House & Gardens is going to be tops on my list. If you are looking for an excellent venue for your wedding, I highly recommend you consider hosting it here.

My cousin got married at the Thompson House on May 26th. At first I was skeptical of an outdoor wedding in May because of the heat, but I was quickly proven wrong; their late afternoon wedding was perfect. The Thompson House and Garden was absolutely beautiful, and it made me wish I was from the Athens area so that I could one day use it as a wedding venue. The entire location was breathtaking from the actual wedding site, to the garden and the outdoor bar in the back, to the beautiful indoor area for the reception. The Thompson House was definitely a winner in my book. Located about 15 minutes from Athens and the University of Georgia, there are ample things for out-of-town guests to do. Overall, the Thompson House and Garden gets a 5-star thumbs up from me(and I’m sure anyone else who has been there!).
